Jameis Helped Jags

No, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, is no turncoat.

Jameis is all about team. That makes Joe wonder what kind of thin ice tweety Austin Seferian-Jenkins is on for Jameis to shame him the way he did so very publicly at practice yesterday in an effort to light a fire under ASJ’s rear end. Jameis is all about helping, not hurting.

That brings Joe to the Jags. It seems Jameis really helped them during the two-day controlled scrimmage sessions with Jacksonville that ended yesterday. Well, indirectly.

Per the fingertips of Phillip Heilman of Jacksonville.com, Jags defenders are quite thankful to face Jameis the last two days because he made them better. And, no, neither defender quoted in Heilman’s story was a teammate of Jameis at Florida State.

Defensive end/linebacker Ryan Davis, who played for Blake High School in Tampa: “It’s a real good test because he does a real good job of getting the ball out of his hands quick and he does a good job of looking off the defense and knowing where his guys are. It was pretty good to get some work against him.”

Middle linebacker Paul Posluszny: “It’s a good challenge. To see someone who is on his way to being an elite quarterback, it’s a great challenge for us and a different opportunity for us and to get different looks, see different routes and see different mannerisms from what we see from Blake [Bortles] and Chad [Henne].”

As Jameis himself might say, iron sharpens iron.

Joe thought it was cool to read what Poz said about Jameis. “On his way to being elite.”

Joe’s hearing a lot of that stuff this summer from national NFL analysts. Hope Jameis approaches living up to that hype.

Loved the Ira podcast. Thanks for the info, keep up the good work. Go bucs!

Props from Poz is a big deal.
    Congratulations JW!

    Awesome!

The concern for the QB position seems to be finally over for us Bucs fans. The coaching seems to be the right fit for us now too. Licht hasn’t been perfect but in my eyes he a damn good batting average.

It seems as it does almost every off season this might be a year to remember.

Joe just might change the stadium’s name to “The Kingdom of Jameis.”

    Go Bucs!!!

  4. jvato24 Says:

He’s in his second year, give him a break, I’m sure the dumb media will expect him to be elite at 22. Reality says even a slight improvement from last year would be a big step in the right direction.

  5. DallasBuc Says:

The Drama H(J)oes continuing to push the “shaming” angle on the Winston/ASJ story. Stroud reports on his radio show this morning that it was nothing more than standard level of encouragement from their leader Winston, the same level of encouragement given to VJax or Evans.
Would love to read more crack reporting on what the “Bucs types” have to say about it!

  6. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

The pundits and so-called experts wanna say this and wanna say about Famous. Them players on that field are saying otherwise.

  7. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Yeah Joe is definitely trolling ASJ. Constantly looks for angles to berate him and Mike Evans. I really like the insight on this site but those slights and exaggerated statements that Joe surely knows he is overblowing often times takes away from the content. Personally, I would enjoy the articles much more if Joe didn’t do that kind of stuff. It makes it seem almost like a tabloid blog as opposed to what it is most of the time (the best resource Bucs have for insight and analysis of our favorite team).

Oh, please. Joe’s not going to pretend ASJ is something he’s not. –Joe

  8. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

C’mon Joe. Jameis doesn’t lead by berating or embarrassing his teammates. I’m sure Stroud’s assessment of Jameis being encouragement is accurate. Jameis and the coaches know that ASJ had a huge upside. They simply want him to play up to his potential. If he does he could be a potent weapon for this team. If he can turn the corner the comparisons to Tony Gonzales could become a reality.

  9. Joe Says:

Yeah Joe is definitely trolling ASJ.

If Joe was “trolling” ASJ, why then did Joe highlight ASJ’s one-handed catch (with video) as the “play of practice” from Monday?

Joe is not going to manufacture fake positive stories about a player just because a few people want to read that, nor is Joe going to bury his head if a player plays or practices badly.

If a player gets p!ssed at Joe for writing negative about him, guess what? He has all the power in the world to change that himself with good play and smart behavior.

If all someone wants are rainbows and puffy white cloud stories on players, Buccaneers.com is your source for such drivel.

Please never use Tony Gonzales name in the same sentence or post with the underachieving mental midget ASJ… there is ZERO comparison… asj potential or talent has only showed up on paper and his laziness and lack of mental toughness will never allow him to obtain greatness much less legendary status of a Tony Gonzales there are zero similarities between the two

Funny how Jameis has never had to (ahem) encourage a teammate like that in practice before. You know, a high draft pick who is (at best) a No. 2 TE playing behind a street free agent from Harvard who also has a long history in less than three years of being a knucklehead and loafer.

But what would Joe know? He’s on the sidelines at practice, you are in Texas.

  12. Joe Says:

I’m sure Stroud’s assessment of Jameis being encouragement

Funny how Joe has never heard Jameis (ahem) encourage another teammate like that.

Of course ASJ has upside. Only reason he’s still with the Bucs.

  13. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

TMax there have been many experts that have said he has the tools to become the next Tony Gonzales. So you saying there is zero comparison to him is completely false. He has tremendous physical tools and that is why the coaches and Jameis are pushing him and sticking with him. He is very young and to act like he can’t mature and improve is very short sighted thinking. He has been in the league and went through two injury plagued seasons. Whether fans like it or not football is a violent sport and injuries can happen. Doesn’t mean the kid is weak. If this kid can avoid the injury bug and turn the corner the sky truly is the limit. As a Buc fan we should all hope that this kid can start playing up to his potential. He is a beast.

  14. Joe Says:

TMax there have been many experts that have said he has the tools to become the next Tony Gonzales.

Well, for one, ASJ has never been a blocking tight end like Tony Gonzalez, and ASJ will be the first to admit that.

  15. K2 Says:

Joe you are the only person making a big deal out of Jameis words to ASJ…everyone seems to be saying it was no big deal. Other comments include that ASJ had his best practice of the year. I think your interpreted Jameis comments wrong…or perhaps everyone else at the practice had the wrong interpretation.

  16. Buccfan37 Says:

If Winston and the team helped the Jags get ready, the Browns will benefit also. Two other teams I actually do not dislike in the league. Yeah, because they lose more than they win.

  17. Joe Says:

    OK K2, help Joe out.

When has Jameis screamed at a teammate that he has to run that literally every person within 200 yards can clearly hear him. Joe is at every practice. Never, ever heard Jameis’ voice like that and it just so happens the target of the hollering just is a guy who has a long history in a short time frame of being a knucklehead who has played far below the team’s expectations. Please feel free to answer that.

It’s one thing thing to offer “encouragement” to a guy battling for a job (Donteea Dye, Kenny Bell, Reedy, et al). But the target of the hollering was ASJ.

You don’t see the connection here? You don’t find that just a little bit strange?

He has priven over the course of 2 seasons he is mentally weak and a me first guy. Injuries aside his poor work ethic, lack of discipline and inability overtake an undrafted TE proves he does not want to be great. He clearly lacks the motivation to be great…. myron lewis had great measurables too. Lots of players with more physical skills than asj fail in the nfl because of mental weakness. Asj has PROVEN beyond a shadow of a doubt he is mentally weak.

Please tell me what the difference is between a fan sitting at home or work in Texas vs sitting at home/work in Tampa?

Wait a minute, you are calling Joe inaccurate on a story where he was standing just feet away witnessing this. Where were you at practice yesterday?

Joe speaks with Bucs employees every day he is at One Buc. Have you ever been in that building?

  21. DallasBuc Says:

“Funny how Jameis has never had to (ahem) encourage a teammate like that in practice before.”

Stroud 100% refutes your claim that it was anything more than a standard level of encouragement from Jameis of the same type that he gives to other players, VJax included. Is Stroud wrong or watching a different team?

What’s funny is how one report is of the positive leader Winston “shaming” and “unloading” on ASJ and another reporter at the same exact time reporting the positive leader Winston providing typical encouragement and nothing more. Hmmm. That’s funny, right?

    Nice dodge!

Being that I was not there I rely on the accurate reporting from the sports media in attendance. The accounts differ.

Feel free to believe who you want to believe. That’s your call.

Joe doesn’t manufacture news. But he knows people who do. Your favorite player GMC can confirm that.

  24. Buccfan37 Says:

Geez, I really don’t doubt Jameis was rough riding ASJ as you suggest Joe, but it does seem a bit out of his character or how it has been presented up to now. I wonder how ASJ saw it, I’m guessing as encouragement. It’s not the first time, I don’t believe, that Winston has questioned ASJ’s commitment. ASJ can only produce what he is capable of producing, both mentally and physically. Up and down like a yoyo.

And there it is! I’d call that some manufactured drama.

  26. Buc1987 Says:

Bravo guys. Nice read. Nice battle.

  27. Trubucfan22 Says:

Perhaps it was out of ordinary to yell toward a teammate the way he did to ASJ. But it doesnt make it “strange”, it is just another tool Jameis has in his leadership bag. And clearly Jameis’ ENCOURAGEMENT helped ASJ have his best practice in his entire career. So yeah, i would call in encouragement, and not shaming or berating.

  28. DallasBuc Says:

Trubucfan22- were you in attendance on the sidelines during practice? Were you “in Texas” or somehow removed from the clear “shaming” of the Bucs’ TE ASJ?
