A Pass Rush Will Vault Bucs

July 18th, 2016
A pass rush only thing missing from Bucs being good, says Yahoo! Sports.

Only one missing element, says Yahoo! Sports.

Sure, when most folks think of the Bucs, they think of America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.

And why not? He’s the face of the franchise and, if you believe some, is on the cusp of being an elite quarterback who will carry the Bucs to the playoffs soon.

Well, Eric Edholm of Yahoo! Sports is a fan of Jameis, too. Like others, Edholm believes the Bucs will be improved and may be a sleeper for a playoff berth. But not because of Jameis.

No, Edholm thinks the Bucs will challenge for the postseason because the defense will be better. Specifically, he believes the Bucs very well may have a pass rush to brag about, one that might actually scares a quarterback now and then.

Edholm explains in the Yahoo! Sports video below.

A huge difference from last year’s debacle to this year improvement, is that while we will see a 4 man rush. The question will be which 4!!!!! Look for all kinds of packages that will help the pass rush, not like last year with the same old vanilla rush 4 d-line man where the opposing O-line new exactly where every Buc Defender will be!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!

We need to turn LVD & Kwon loose also…..I think we could be a much better defense…..

  3. BigHogHaynes Says:

They haven’t even played a scrimmage game yet!

Defense can’t be any worse…. i am confident good coach smith will not be as predictable and will learn or has learned his players strengths and weaknesses which will allow him to put them in the best position to succeed. He’s biggest hurdle will be keeping the defense in the game mentally when a play or a call dose not go there way

There is going to be a learning curve for Spence with a new system and the greater speed of the NFL, but in College he has been studying rush moves from video of the best pass rushers in the NFL, so he should be further along than any other rookie DEs. That is how he was able to dominate in the Senior Bowl. So, yes, we will be able to put pressure on QBs this year with our additions at DE and the use of blitzes from everywhere and multiple fronts and different packages, all of which will also mean more turnovers and tackles for loss, and a very exciting season coming up!

  6. James Walker Says:

Wow, someone who actually knows something about our team.

Who will be the 4 men? I’m sorry, but I don’t see a 4 man rush coming. More like a 3 man rush and a good run stopper.

I do think Kwon will play a bigger role in sacks this year though.

I didn’t know that about his studies. Good to know.

I agree he’ll need a little time though. Just doubt that Tampa Fans will be patient enough unless he shows some immediate flashes.

    @BucBonzai

Thats the point, its not just a D-line that cannot get there anymore. We will see Lb’s in the 4 rush. CB will be in the 4 man rush at times, Maybe even a safety in a 4 man rush!!! Who are the 4 is what other teams will be asking this year!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!

  12. Mike Johnson Says:

The Bucs have yet to play one single game under this new regime. Yet everybody here has them as giantkillers. I’m glad none of you are my stockbroker.

  13. Buc1987 Says:

Mike…I just read the comments. I took nothing from any of them that makes me think the posters think the Bucs are giant killers.

  14. 813bucboi Says:

we’ll see if coach smith has learned anything after spending a year in his basement….GO BUCS!!!

  15. 1sparkybuc Says:

Nothing about being giant killers, but when you add talented players and upgrade the coaching staff and adjust a terrible scheme, the most logical outcome is an improved result for the defense. A more efficient offense will certainly help. Having negative expectations at this point doesn’t make any sense. Tough schedule or not, I’m confident the Bucs will field a competitive team this fall. The playoffs are at least possible.

Buc1987 @ TV for the past 10 years : ” All the F&^%ING time in the world to the throw the DAMN football!!!!.”

Buc1987 @ wife during game : ” This team’s going to kill me honey.”

  17. America's Commenter Says:

I’ll believe it when I see it. Noah Spence is a year or two away from being a dominant force and Robert Ayers is already past his prime.
