Mike Evans wants the world to know something about Jameis

A bullhorn comes out on national radio

Every Bucs fan has heard about the work ethic of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, but is it consistent?

Is it present in Year 2, after Jameis has banked a lot of cash?

Mike Evans lauded Jameis’ devotion to the team and his craft on SiriusXM NFL Radio yesterday. But the cool thing was Evans wasn’t asked about it.

It came up in conversation, when Movin’ The Chains co-host Pat Kirwan was inquiring about how Jameis was so successful against the blitz as a rookie. Kirwan talked about how Jameis was one of the very best in the NFL, only getting sacked once every 22 blitzes.

Evans explained it’s all about relentless preparation. He said Jameis is first to work and last to leave — by a mile — daily at One Buc Palace.

“I’m not exaggerating,” Evans insisted.

Catch the audio below. And God Bless America.

Let me say again, all he needed was to complete his first walk thru season in NFL. In year two he’ll look like he’s been around for four. This is why I’m not placing any limitation on next season. Superbowl win or bust for 2016.

  2. Wombat Says:

I don’t think there is a time in Bucs history when SO much anticipation is brewing over the recent drafts. You would have to be crazy to compare Sapp, Brooks, Barber and Lynch and say there were the same expectations placed on them. Sapp had drug problems, Brooks was too small, Lynch maybe should’ve been playing baseball, and Barber?
I think there is mounting pressure for a winning team again in Tampa and I like it!! As one coach once said, ” We are trending up” lol

  3. Newbucsfan2 Says:

I’m so thankful he’s ours rather than us having to go up against him every year. He will be an elite player for years to come! He makes everyone better around him. Go Jameis and Go Bucs!!!
Ps is it football season yet?!

  4. Wombat Says:

No disrespect to the former Bucs players meant, I just think they WAY overperformed with the talent they had. This group has all the pressure in the world on them and are all very talented. Pressure produces diamonds!

  5. BigHogHaynes Says:

Or pressure can bust a pipe! IJS^^

  6. Jeagan1999 Says:

A true leader sets the tone, the pace and the mood….sounds like that’s exactly what Jameis is doing! Good things will ultimately come of his hard work and preparation…which means happy days ahead for Bucs fans!

  7. Pickgrin Says:

    All hail the Messiah

  8. tmaxcon Says:

Best thing to happen to office the bay area in years. Go Jaboooo

  9. feelthepewterpower Says:

Jameis’ (future) greatness was on display at Nola, when he launched a 50 yard strike on the dead run the Louis Murphy. The ball traveled so far that an open Murphy stumbled down, on a play he should have scored!

  10. feelthepewterpower Says:

on the dead run to Louis Murphy, rather^^^

  11. feelthepewterpower Says:

    and he was running sideways….

  12. DB55 Says:

Eli, Brady, Bradford who was the fifth?

Is The Messiah performing like a SB MVP QB after just his first year? That’s amazing!

I can’t wait to see how he performs when he has 4-5 seconds to throw the ball. I say he throws for 7 TDs in a game, 60 TDs in a season and 15 rushing TDs. And Most importantly wins SB MVP honors as the first undefeated QB in the modern NFL era.

Winston has THE FIRE!!!! LET’S GET THE MINDSET RIGHT, FELLAS!

  14. feelthepewterpower Says:

The losing streak ends in Atlanta on 9.11!

  15. Beer, Bait, and Ammo Says:

Had the pleasure of running into Winston at the store while I was shopping with my family. He was very polite and friendly and even took a moment and snapped a quick pic with me and my son.

Ive been a Bucs fan since the 80s when I was a kid and have always dreamed of getting a qb here that could be a true great. Ive seen flashes of it from different players through the years but they have always found a way to be mediocre and forgotten. I dont get the feeling that Jameis would be ok with being mediocre. I think he craves the win, and so far hes been doing all the right things to get it and its spilling over to other players. Very excited for this coming season. Go Bucs!!

  16. Grt1 Says:

We don’t deserve Jameis. …. I’m a lifer buc fan and season ticket holder.

  17. Dewey Selmon Says:

The only prediction I made for #3 when he was drafted was he would end up the all-time td passer in Buccaneer history. Freeman has 80, Jameis is at 22.

  18. Wausa Says:

I’m a former teammate of Deion Sanders when I was at Florida State and Deion was the best to ever come through the school until Jameis in my opinion.

Jameis is getting a lot of love by the media, but I still think they vastly underrate what he is going to do.

  19. Buc1987 Says:

Grt1…speak for yourself. I waited, waited, waited and waited for a kid like this to come along just like you.

The hell we don’t deserve this.

  20. BuccaneEric75 Says:

    What 87 said.

  21. Kevin Says:

Superbowl in 2016??? I’ll go with that. I doubt it will happen but lets see what happens.

  22. Buc1987 Says:

2017 I tell ya and been tellin’ ya since before the draft.

Can’t you people wait 2 more seasons? Geesh!

Give the kid 2 more seasons.

  23. BigHogHaynes Says:

Jameis get two more? Yea / Coaching Staff? Only if they win 9 games!

  24. BuccaneEric75 Says:

6-10 this season, 10-6 next season.

  25. Buccaneers Says:

Everybody expects Jamies to progress and take full reigns of this offense. Winston will not be the deciding factor here it will be everybody around him. Wins were left on the field last year because of the player surrounding Winston, mainly in the receiving game. There are a lot of ifs around Winston.

This team wants to win then they better be prepared to step there games up. Right now they aren’t good enough. Better get it righted or will be another dog season of what could have been.

  26. Buc1987 Says:

Buccaneers…I had NO expectations coming to last season. Predicted 4-6 wins tops. My main reason for low expectations was Lovie Smith. My expectations aren’t that high for this season either. 2017 is a whole different animal though as you can see. I predict not only a SB berth, but a win as well.

  27. BucFan20 Says:

Oh. So now this Pro ready QB is to get longer time?? Why? Hell he will even have for the first time, on this team, the benefit of the same coach and same system? But he would still need 2 more years?

  28. Buc1987 Says:

    BucFan20…WTH are you talking about?

Yah 2 years and we go to the SB. I guess you expected it in 1 year, but sorry.

    WTF is wrong with you?

  29. BucFan20 Says:

87 Your the one that wants to give him 3 years. To bad. No excuses! He was going to light up the NFL. PRO Ready. Just what I said. He has Koetter and the same system. Lovie is gone. There are NO excuses now. Nobody to blame.

  30. Buc1987 Says:

Some of you fans should just give up on your team.

Newsflash : Jameis Winston was NOT drafted by Seahawks or Patriots.

He was drafted by one of the WORST teams in the league. Or haven’t you been watching this team for the last 10 years.

If this team goes to the SB in 2 years. You should be kissing is fing ass by then. Not expecting it to happen.

I’m gonna hold back on even bothering with these clowns anymore. I really am.

  31. Buc1987 Says:

    You wanna fight?

You act as if it’s a regular occurrence that QB’s take their team to the SB within 3 years of entering the NFL. It ain’t. Pro ready or not. Yes he was THEE most pro ready QB in his draft class. What does that mean to you? He better take us to the Super Bowl in 2 years or he sucks.

Are you a child? Are you high on drugs?

Oh never mind I’ll let everyone else read your comment and judge for themselves how stupid it is.

  32. 74 bucs fan Says:

And Johnny Football was going to dominate, while Jameis was a problem child! Why to do your homework you bunch of jabronie media clowns!

  33. DB55 Says:

    87

You must be getting trolled by a Titans fan.

  34. BuccaneEric75 Says:

BucFan20 expects a Super Bowl win THIS season?? WOW!!

  35. cmurda Says:

NOSBOS, great comment from the beginning. Even factoring your FSU love, you ain’t lying. I’m all FSU spelled backwards but I thoroughly enjoyed watching J dub’s competitiveness in college. There are some once in a decade talents that you can see right from the beginning, even as early as college. Some examples, Bo Jackson, Barry Sanders, Joe Montana, Randy Moss, D Revis, JJ Watt etc. It’s too early to throw JW in there now, but there is undoubted optimism on my part that he will land on the list.

  36. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I think some Jameis haters on this site don’t know what Pro-ready means. It doesn’t mean that you come into the league at a top 5 QB. It means that you played and excelled in a Pro-style system in college and are more than a one- read QB and go through your progressions. It means that you called plays in the huddle in college and made line checks and audibles. It means that you had to make all of the throws on the route tree outside the numbers that NFL QBs HAVE to be able to make. It means not having to learn how to play NFL style QB once your in the NFL. It doesn’t mean that you come in and win Super Bowls year 2, just ask Andrew Luck.

  37. Buccaneers Says:

Can you sorry azz fans quit talking about super bowls. You’re making the entire fan base look like a bunch of uneducated idiots. Last time I checked the team can’t even handle the teams in their own Di vision and they can’t win at home and they can’t find a HC and they have no defense.

I’m all for being optimistic but not in an ignorant type of way. How bot we see a team that can play fundamental football first then go from there?

  38. cmurda Says:

Wow 87. I haven’t seen you this fired up in years. If I’m being honest, I like it.

  39. Buc1987 Says:

    Grt1…I take that back.

Some fans don’t deserve Jameis Winston.

    I however do.

  40. Buc1987 Says:

Buccaneers…well said man. I just believe Jameis will lift the entire team around him to play on a different level.

My prediction came way before we even drafted Jameis and it still stands today.

cmurda…lol Insomnia will do that to ya…

  41. Buccaneers Says:

Well 87, a lot has to improve for your prediction to come true. Obviously it better start this year. Three things that have to happen in my book.

1)Evans has to prove he is a reliable WR1
2)O-Line needs to take a step forward
    3)Secondary needs to show improvement

There’s a multitude of added concerns but those three have the best opportunities IMO to become playoff caliber this year.

  42. Buccaneers Says:

    Oh and
4)Winston has to progress. That’s actually the most important but widely expected to happen. If he regresses we outta just bring out the brown bags for 2017.

  43. DB55 Says:

If cam can go 15-1 and make the SB. The Messiah can go 16-0 n win the SB. You gotz to BELIEVE

  44. Buccaneers Says:

DB55-Major flaw in your equation. Cam didn’t go 15-1 by himself, he was surrounded by a solid team.

Also, get back to your rocker.

  45. BucFan20 Says:

    DB55
Not a troll. Just think about it for awhile. HE has all the same coaches. But gets extra time? Now look at the excuses. Was drafted by one of the WORST teams. He was not drafted by the Seahawks or Patriots. Keep thinking. And Winston was the NUMBER 1.
If this team does it’s job, I don’t want to hear oh Jameis needed 2 more years!

  46. BuccaneEric75 Says:

BucFan20, what the hell is “extra time”? When do you think he should win the Super Bowl? Explain what your “extra time” means.

  47. SB with Jameis Says:

Evening fellas. So much tension and bickering here tonight. Can’t we all just be happy that the team is looking better than it has in years? It’s June for frick’s sake.

  48. SB with Jameis Says:

Buccaneric, it comes from early in the thread where 87 said that we would win the superbowl next yr. 87 said “give this kid two seasons”

  49. Pawel Says:

    Jamesis is next Muhamad Ali

  50. BuccaneEric75 Says:

SB, I know that, but how is that “extra time”? Where is it written in stone that Jameis is supposed to win the Super Bowl this season and if he doesn’t and wins it next season, then that means he got “extra time”? “Extra time” implies that there is a time limit in the first place. 87 has said since before Jameis was drafted that he would win the Super Bowl in 3 years. Next year is year 3. What is this “extra time”?

  51. lurker Says:

of course america’s quarterback, tom brady, prepares relentlessly. he is a major talent that younger, learning qb’s like jameis can look up to.

    ps yhwh bless america
    muhammed bless america
    buddha bless america
    brahma bless you
    nobody bless america

  52. Buc1987 Says:

Buccaneers…yep I agree with those three things. Pass rush would help too.

I’m not too worried about Evans like some are.

I’m really not too worried about the secondary as well. The talent’s there.

If the O-line improves this team is going far.

I also think this team is going to play for Jameis. Not for themselves or any head coach for that matter. That’s how much influence I think he will have on this team. They WON’T let him down. Year 1 is year 1 it’s over and it was a feeling out process for Winston, because he was a rookie.

People will see what I’m talking about this upcoming season and come to realize that I was right.

The SB prediction in year 3 was intended for ANY team that drafted Winston not just the Bucs. Yes it’s a crazy prediction. I do live in Realityville, but that’s how much I believe in Jameis Winston.

  53. tmaxcon Says:

    Bucfan20

If you take Glennons jock strap off and take a breath of fresh air you might see clearly how good jameis is and the heights he will take this team. At least Glennon can use jameis for a reference trying to obtain a radio job while jameis is leading bucs to playoff victories

  54. Buc1987 Says:

SB with Jameis….this upcoming season is the starting point. The next one after this upcoming season we’re going Bowling.

    Crazy talk. Yep.

  55. LargoBuc Says:

    Buccaneric
20 was being sarcastic. He was refering to the fact that Lovie only got “two” years so why should jameis, and by extention, Koetter. He dosen’t literally mean Jameis should bring us a sb year 2.

  56. Buc1987 Says:

BuccaneEric75…very simple. He thinks 2 seasons is too long to wait for a “Pro ready QB” to take us to the Super Bowl. He thought Jameis was a SB ready QB coming out of the draft. We should not have to wait until Winston’s 3rd year.

    Cocaine’s a helluva drug….

  57. LargoBuc Says:

But really, just look at how all of the players gravitate towards Koetter and Jameis. There is just something there that I haven’t seen in a long time.

  58. Buc1987 Says:

Largo…read it again. Pro-ready is what he said, because he’s pro-Glennon.

He made a reference to what everyone was saying about Winston pre-draft that he was Pro-ready and how come this and how come that.

    Nice defense though. Nice try.

  59. tmaxcon Says:

Bucfan20 is all about Glennon. Top 5 Glennon fan boy…

  60. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I’m still not sold on 87’s Super Bowl prediction. I think we could be a better team this season and still finish 6-10 if our schedule really turns out to be as hard as it looks ( I know, too early to tell, that’s why I said “if”). I’m expecting a 10-6 season next year and a good shot at the playoffs if Winston progresses like we think he will and if the pass rush gets legit. With that said, I hope I’m dead wrong and we “LICHT IT UP” this season! Ha Ha, I said ” LICHT IT UP”! That should be the Bucs new marketing campaign this season! LICHT IT UP, BOYS!

  61. LargoBuc Says:

87 is he a Glennon fanboy? That sucks. But why are you letting him

  62. LargoBuc Says:

Get under your skin so bad?

  63. Buc1987 Says:

    Largo…probably because I’m Winston’s #1 fanboy.

No Joe you don’t come close and everyone in here knows that.

Plus I haven’t had a good fight in here in awhile and this place needs some fight in it lately. YW everyone.

  64. FIRETHECANNONS Says:

    This thread needs more cowbell.

  65. LargoBuc Says:

Nothin beats a good ole fashioned interweb brawl.

  66. DB55 Says:

    Buccaneer

We have similar pieces. Without listing them all by name we can match up with each one of their star players.

  67. LakeLandBuc Says:

The reasons why we have been the BOTTOM FEEDER of the NFC South for 5 years counting. Too many DUMB penalties, too many mistakes, too many turnovers, zero return game, can’t create turnovers, lack of QB pressures, awful coaching, too many drop passes, too many blown pass coverage, too many missed assignments, not enough depth. It will take more than ONE player to fix our NUMEROUS problems. I’m not trying to rain on anyone parade, I”m just keeping it real. Let’s just take it ONE DAY AT A TIME, and not get ahead of ourselves. No more Super Bowl talk, until we win the NFC South (at least fight for it).

  68. BigHogHaynes Says:

I like a fight, you said JAMIES would be SB BOUND in three years before he was drafted, and that was with LOVIE at coach at the time, the Glazer’s did you a big favor and kicked LOVIE & FRIENDS&FAMILY out the door and gave you your greatest desire an ALL WORLD STAFF: NEWSFLASH this team needed talent on both sides of the ball, for JAMIES to reach his full potential, he will need talent at wide receiver there will be no SB THIS YEAR, this years team will struggle to get to .500, schedule be damn if this team has a 7-9 record, who’s fault will it be? LOVIE I PRESUME?

  69. LargoBuc Says:

I domt think we’re quite at Carolina’s level yet. But I do really beleive we have enough to be second in the division, ahead of Atlanta and Nawlins. We have our qb. We have a two headed rushing attack. Mike Evans is a great center piece to build a receiving core around. Brate showed tons of heart last year. Our oline was a strength despite starting two rookies, and Sweezy brings a similar skill set to what Mankins brought to the table. On defense we have GMC, LVD and Kwon, so its not like there’s nothing to build around on defense. Are we perfect at every position? No, but few teams are. The players seem really amped to be playing for Koetter and Mike Smith. So yeah, I definitely see us a the second best team in our division, which puts us in position to challenge for a wild card. I’m just not scared or Atlanta and Nawlins like we were the past five seasons. We got the pieces, time will tell if Koetter’s the one to put the thing together.

  70. BuccaneEric75 Says:

BigHog, what proof do you have that this will be an “all world” coaching staff? Koetter has never been an NFL head coach and Mike Smith hasn’t been a Defensive coordinator in almost a decade. I agree with you that Lovie had to go, but you can’t blame him for this season.

  71. DB55 Says:

there will be no SB THIS YEAR
    ——–
Who said the Bucs winning a SB “THIS” year? Who said that? Point him out bc I’d like to laugh at that guy. Lol

    Cam vs Jameis*
    Stewart Vs Martin*
    Tolbert* vs Simms
    Olsen* vs ASJ
    Benjamin* vs Evans
    Funchess vs Jackson*

    Short vs McCoy*
    Kuechly* vs D. Smith
    Davis vs LVD*
    Norman* vs Grimes

Other than the fact that they all pro bowlers we right there with’m. 😉

  72. Buc1987 Says:

BigHogHaynes…I also said that Jameis would have to drag Lovie kicking and screaming to the Super Bowl. Because that’s how bad Lovie sucked.

Said Lovie’s conservative nature would hold Jameis back and hinder his progress.

This stuff can be found in the archives.

BTW I loathe it when people spell his name “JAMIES” so I hope that was one of your usual typos.

Great offenses along with an average defense can make it to the SB. Especially in today’s NFL that’s geared towards offense. I love Tony Dungy unlike a few on this site. Then again I also love Monte Kiffin. I don’t use the word love lightly either. The past is the past though and Lovie was still living in it. IMO his model of D was not going to work in today’s NFL. Had he adapted to today’s NFL he might still be here being dragged to the SB by Jameis Winston.

So with all that being said. YES Jameis Winston will take our team to the SB in year 3, especially without the likes of square peg in a round hole Lovie Smith.

He’s gone and I was elated when the news broke of his firing. I was at the point where they could have hired Mickey Mouse over keeping Lovie. I’m very passionate about this team. Maybe too passionate at times. Lovie HAD to go. My stress levels had reached an all-time high. I’m not a big fan of releasing HC’s after 2 seasons, but I don’t think I could have bared watching more of that scheme any longer. I don’t blame the players like yourself. Verner didn’t all of sudden just start sucking, and Banks is a baller.

Again, he’s gone. Yet you’re pretty much the only one on this site that still defends him like brotha. Most of his defenders moved on months ago. Yet here you are daily, defending him like your last name is Smith.

  74. America's Commenter Says:

As good as Winston was last season, he was still the worst QB in the division. His future sure looks bright, but projecting him as a Super Bowl Champion is reckless. Careers can get derailed quickly. Remember how good Josh Freeman looked at one point?

I’m not saying Winston doesn’t have the goods, I’m just saying he has a long, long, long way to go to be a Championship caliber player.

For the record, I’m rooting for him to lead the Bucs back to prominence, I’m just cautiously optimistic.

  75. BigHogHaynes Says:

BUC1987: LOVIE went through 2 drafts as a “defensive minded” head coach, and could only bring in late round defensive rookies or undrafted free agents or below average defensive free agents, his so called Out-dated scheme needed the same type of talent infusion that we now have on offense, our corners last year couldn’t stop a slant pass because they had no killer instinct (BARBER) at times they looked as though they didn’t have a clue, you just watch how that defensive backfield works itself out. Verner had one good year and we over-paid to get him but he maybe an above average slot defender if he works at it, Banks better move to safety to keep a roster spot, ask yourself why did we draft with a priority on offense two years in a row? Answer: the team sucked before LOVIE got here, this nugget is for you only, the defense is under new management, a new philosophy, it will take at lest 6 weeks for it to come together, well maybe 4 since we are “practicing” against other teams this year, let’s hope JAMEIS can drag this team to a 2-4 record out the gate!

  76. Buc1987 Says:

    Oh YES…. I’m the Great Defender….
