Glennon-Cowboys Trade Rumblings

Report surfaces that Jerry Jones is trying to grab Bucs QB Mike Glennon.

Report surfaces that Jerry Jones is trying to grab Bucs QB Mike Glennon.

Joe does not profess to know the folks at 24/7 Sports. Joe knows good people who work for that network, but those sites are just not in Joe’s surfing wheelhouse (Joe’s not into college football recruiting, the main thrust of 24/7 sports).

So Joe had read anything from Jeffrey Kahn, who works for the Cowboys’ site of the network, or network insider Luke Rodgers. So if Rodgers is to be believed, the nugget/prediction by Mike DiRocco of BSPN last week that Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht was going to fleece Cowboys owner Jerry Jones for Mike Glennon when Tony Romo gets hurt isn’t just throwing s(p)it against the wall.

Jones has been trying to obtain the rights to Glennon for months, Rodgers reports, per Kahn. The reported offer Licht has yet to bite on? Two third-round draft picks.

…the Cowboys have a standing offer on the table for Glennon if the Buccaneers decide to trade him. Rodgers’ source informed him that the Cowboys attempted to trade for Glennon on draft day with the Bucs looking into their 2016 third-round pick and 2017 third-round pick.

The Arizona Cardinals also recently attempted to land Glennon, per Rodgers. The NFC West team tried to sling a second-round pick for the quarterback before the start of the draft.

It doesn’t shock Joe that Jones would be intrigued by Glennon, but Joe doesn’t buy that Licht turned down two third round picks. The way Licht likes to wheel and deal with draft pick ammo, that’s likely two starters he’s turning his back on for a backu. This makes little sense to Joe, as if valuing any single backup player over one starter makes a lick of sense.

Below is an audio clip Rodgers gave in recent days concerning the Jerry Jones-Mike Glennon chatter.

2 thirds from Dallas or a second from Zona for Glennon.

LOL at any GM that would pass that up.

  2. Buc1987 Says:

Forgot to add. I’m not knocking Glennon. I’m knocking anyone that would not take take that trade and run with it.

  3. America's QB Says:

If that were to be true then that would be pretty dumb to not accept. Two thirds or a 2nd is as good as we are gonna get for a guy on his last year of his rookie contract.

  4. Buc Neckid Says:

If the Second Rounder from Arizona this year were true …
Surely Licht would have jumped all over that to take that Punter in the Second Round that he had his eye on.

  5. Defense Rules Says:

I’m not even going to ask where you got that photo of Jerry Jones Joe (but it appears to be Photoshopped).

  6. BigHogHaynes Says:

That can’t be true! Thee Home Run Hitter, I never said he was stupid, just a BACK/STABBER!

  7. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

I guess during the offseason guys can just make up ridiculous stories to creates some news. That is the most ludicrous report I’ve heard yet about Glennon. If Licht turned either one of those offers down he should be fired immediately.

But then who would have the answers when JW3 ask in the QB meeting??? There is a reason why Joe want ask Head Coach Koetter what MG8 brings to this team and all he does behind the scenes!!!! Don’t ask question that have answers that you don’t want to hear!!!!!!

  9. Bird Says:

Hope that’s not true about turning down 2s and 3s…
that pic is not photoshopped…two girls/I think strippers got jones liquored up and took some pics /to get some money for silence I believe/maybe messed up the story a bit but something to that affect. Funny that someone doesn’t believe one of the slimmest people in all of sports wouldnt cheat on his wife. Classic

  10. DemBoyzFromDaBay727 Says:

LOL is that a true story Bird?? I wouldn’t doubt it at all. If u have the $, they will come.

I don’t believe that horse tho, there’s no way Licht is that dumb. I don’t think he would pass on a 3rd rounder alone. Because the offers are not gonna get any better than that. U dam sure isn’t asking for a 1st. He’s smoking the good stuff if he is.

  11. DemBoyzFromDaBay727 Says:

He looks liquored up in that pic…lol woman are evil. Then again so is Jerry Jones to a degree. The man would sell his soul for a winning season.

  12. Buccfan37 Says:

Glennon is like glue to the Bucs. As in stick around. Licht must see his true value. Smart man. Somebody is peed off that their daughter is being molested by Jones, though she seems to like it.

  13. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

One thing is for certain, this organization has never seen this type world series of poker player before. To get Sweezy out of Seattle,Hayes out of Cincy,Spawn and yes the kicker I had my fi gers cross for in the second. To out wit Belichek and Carrol for Marpet last draft. We’ve never seen this before,a front office dude that makes big wigs across the league dial his number. Gives me confidence we are about to partake in and witness one hell-of-a ride over the next ten years.

  14. Harry Says:

I have to agree. NO WAY AC/DC turned down two 3rd rd picks for MG8. That would be stupid and he is not that.

  15. tmaxcon Says:

Look at that picture… Jerry Jones likes / prefers young sports cars not average to below average Ford Pinto’s or Chrysler K cars…. Glennon is clearly more of a Pinto or K car than a sports car.

  16. Buc1987 Says:

Okay Realist just continue to be in denial of Winston’s football IQ.

  17. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Buc1987

I am fully aware of JW3 IQ and I am very impressed, especially considering only being 22 years old!!!!!! But there is a reason NFL GM Light is turning down offers and why Joe will never ask HC Koetter or JW3 of what MG8 adds to the team!!!

Contrary to popular opinion, MG8 ceiling is higher than some have tagged him with after seeing him for 18 games!!!!!

If you think MG8 has a higher ceiling, more ability, or has more football intellect than Jameis, by all means, go on record with it.

I have always liked Glennon, but, in no way do I think he is, or can ever be better, or even, as good as Jameis as a professional NFL quarterback.

  19. Pickgrin Says:

I call BS on this report of good offers for Glennon this year.

Doesn’t mean they won’t come if a starter does get hurt early and Glennon represents a significant upgrade over that team’s back-up.

We should probably root for Glennon to tear it up in pre-season and look spectacular so maybe we CAN swing a fair trade for a 2nd round pick and earn some compensation for having developed a QB who is confident enough and competent enough to start in this league.

I think Glennon would have success in Dallas with such a solid Oline and some good weapons to get the ball to

  20. Bucsfanman Says:

That photo just creeps me out! I don’t know if I’m jealous or grossed out (mostly jealous!)!
I don’t understand the need to bash MG8. Who cares whether or not he’s better than x, y, or z? He is what he is. I know this, I feel better knowing that we have a capable back-up. “Capt. check-down”, “Ginger Cannon”, “Slinging Giraffe,” whatever you want to call him, you could do a heck of a lot worse!
By the way, we can only speculate what his true value is. None of us are residents at One Buc the last time I checked.

  21. carload Says:

    Horse turd!

  22. Jeagan1999 Says:

I hope he doesn’t try to “grab” MG8 the same way he is grabbing the woman in the picture!

  23. @eric Says:

MG8 To the Cards would be great if that was true…..MG8 would fit perfect in AZ to replace Carson and we get a 2nd rounder? pull that trigger if its true

  24. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

No way that report is accurate. Licht would’ve jumped on either one of those deals.

  25. The Buc Realist Says:

There would be some upsides to the Arizona deal. The Bucs would get a second rounder and after the season was over, since JW3 an MG8 are good friends, MG8 could tell JW3 what it was like to be in and play in the playoffs!!!!!!!

  26. DB55 Says:

The report is false, confirmed by several sources including @thecommish Justin powslowski (spell check).

I looked it up n researched it a bit cuz I was gonna come to JBF and blast all the “no more than a 6th rnd pick” haters out there.

  27. shouldhavedraftedefiert Says:

Joe, were you hinting that there was no market for Glennon before the draft?

  28. BuccaneEric75 Says:

If Licht really turned down a second rounder for Glennon, what would be the reason? Does he really think he can re-sign him to a cheap deal as a career backup?

  29. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Licht learned under Belichick, and he drafts a QB fairly high every other season or so. That makes it hard for me to think he might want Glennon long term. Who knows?

  30. CrustyCrab Says:

I’ve been waiting over a week for @joe or big dog to say something about this story better late than not

  31. Brett Says:

A single top 5 3rd round pick given Dallas’ draft position, would have beenwhat he is worth. Glennon might have been okay on the Bucs teams with the top 5 defense, but doubt he can carry a team.
