“He Looks Like A First-Round Pick”

June 13th, 2016
Teammates weigh in.

Teammates weigh in.

It’s the time of year when Joe is barraged with the question, “How does ____ look?

Of course, for most positions, there is little to say since players are not in pads playing real football.

But you can see a little more when it comes receivers and the men who cover them. Those groups working against each other most closely resembles real football — during the underwear football season.

Last week, while discussing his desire to be a household name, wide receiver Adam Humphries raved about Vernon Hargreaves skills and intensity and said, “He looks like a first-round pick out there.”

Dirk Koetter confidently talked about Hargreaves’ “great quickness, tremendous explosiveness, he’s smart, competitive, he’s playing two spots, corner and nickel. Exactly what we thought when we drafted him.”

In this Bright House Network Sports video, Alterraun Verner joins the love chorus on Hargreaves, and there’s also a revealing camera angle on Hargreaves’ interception at Thursday’s practice.

So about how Hargreaves looks? Very good.

Excellent news. This kid plays ball. Excited to see him on the field

  2. 813bucboi Says:

    VHGIII is a stud….GO BUCS!!!

  3. Wombat Says:

Met him a few weeks back with my family. His buddy was nice enough to take a family photo of us with him. What a nice kid, hope he is as advertised. He isn’t that short, I am 6″3″ and it’s not like he was way shorter. He is a tall 5’11” if thats possible. He does look like a total athlete and looks fast!!

  4. Kobe Faker Says:

Has the best coverage skills better than hands of stone Ramsey

This kid will be our shutdown corner for the next 10+ years

He is MENTALLY strong and wants to be great

  5. Bucsfanman Says:

Maybe another home-run draft pick? I’d love to see this guy be THE GUY.
Lets see how it plays out.

  6. Joehelldeloxley Says:

One day I will learn the difference bewten corner and nickel

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

VH3 will also be a great player for the Bucs in the community…..he was the rookie spokesperson at the “bowling with the Tampa Firefighters”…….he said all the right things.
Very, very happy with this pick.
    Compare VH3 to Aquib Talib…..character matters…..

  8. Bucsfanman Says:

That’s not a fair comparison TBBF! Talib only has one good leg right now!!!!!

  9. Tom S. Says:

    VHIII was a good/safe pick.

Worst case scenario you get a solid nickel corner. Given his pedigree, and production at the college level there is a solid chance he can be a long tenured Buc starter and mainstay on the D. Which is all you can reasonably hope for from a first round pick.

  10. WheresYourBuccaneers? Says:

Being “the guy” at 5’10” is a “tall” order. He might be good, he might be effective, he will probably be better than what we had going on last year but lets see what big-boy receivers on other teams have to say about crowning him “the guy”. Breathe people.

  11. Brent bull/buc Says:

Good pick up but easy to make. He was the most talented accomplished player on the board at a position of need. Kinda like me was a couple years ago. Licht made the obvious pick luckily.

  12. SB with Jameis Says:

He is a freaking quarter inch shorter than Revis for frick’s sake. He can be “the man” whatever that is.

  13. Buc1987 Says:

I don’t know. His bio says he’s 5-11. Before the draft I saw him listed at 5-9 on one site and 5-10 on another. Now he’s 5-11 everywhere.

Either way I’m 6 foot and this dude doesn’t look an inch shorter than me at all. More like 5-9 looking to me.

    Brent Grimes is only 5-10.

  14. HolyBuc Says:

His combine height is 5′ 10 1/2″. People should probably wait a bit to see if his height becomes a consistent issue, before ripping the kid and the pick. In today’s NFL every CB gets beat. Give me the guy that has a nose for football.

  15. SB with Jameis Says:

OK………I must have used improper lingo. Holy Buc speaks the truth. This kid has a nose for the football like a person from Isreal has a nose for money.

Outright offensive comment. We don’t need your anti-Semitic comments here.

  17. Buc1987 Says:

I concur Dave. An attack on one is an attack on us all.

  18. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @SB with Jameis

    Trying to be funny, lol.

I’ll laughing at your failure, not your joke 😉

On topic, I don’t think height will be the issue. With every player, it is about heart, skill and athleticism.
