Fun stuff from NFL superwife Miko Grimes on ESPN Radio yesterday.

Joe’s got the audio and the highlights of Miko diving deep on many topics, including her husband Brent Grimes’ contract negotiations.

Co-hosts Sarah Spain, Jane McManus and Kate Fagan had an entertaining and tension-heavy discussion with Miko that centered around spouses of professional athletes voicing strong opinions on social media. Of course, Miko is legendary when it comes to firing away on NFL subjects that some think cross a line — and negatively impacted the Miami Dolphins last year.

Joe has been very clear on this issue: Any team distracted by a wife’s football commentary is weak at the core and wouldn’t win regardless.

Among yesterday’s audio highlights, Miko explained that media or anyone believing she threatened to shoot Miami Herald beat writer Armando Salguero isn’t paying attention.

“Someone else Tweeted me and said Armando is still going to take shots at you” [even after Brent leaves the Dolphins.] You see that language. And I said, ‘He’s not safe from my bullets, either.’ Does that make sense? It has nothing to do with me actually shooting someone,” Miko explained.

“Like why would I even … you guys keep calling me stupid, and that’s what really bothers me. I’m not stupid enough to actually threaten somebody on social media in that way. … I would never threaten to shoot someone. That’s why I didn’t even talk about it really because it was very stupid to me, that anybody even thought I was threatening him. It made no sense to me.”

Miko also said her knowledge of Brent Grimes’ value in free agency comes to her directly.

“My husband does not negotiate his contract. I do,” Miko said.

She explained there were “17 teams calling” for Brent Grimes in free agency in March. And Miko scolded ESPN for claiming Brent Grimes would struggle to get a deal because of her social media antics. Miko said ESPN discussed that on First Take hours after she reached a 2 a.m. deal with the Buccaneers. The Bucs, she said, were holding the announcement till noon that day.

“When we signed with the Bucs, the Dolphins asked to match the offer. So was Miko really the problem? Why would you want to match it. See what I mean. You guys don’t know what’s really happening.”

“It had nothing to do with me. It had everything to do with my husband wanting to leave the Miami Dolphins and them not wanting him to leave. You guys don’t know that, though. You’re listening to what [Dolphins owner Stephen Ross] is saying. That’s why I was able to say whatever I wanted to say because my husband wanted to leave.”

For those who might not believe Miko when she speaks of the desire for Brent Grimes across the NFL, consider what a frustrated Rex Ryan told Joe in March, “All I know is we couldn’t afford him.”

Miko went on to say, “My husband doesn’t have a problem with whatever I say.” And she will continue to hold reporters accountable for any nonsense they may deliver.

Miko also voiced her frustration at media she believes doesn’t know enough about football and/or doesn’t watch enough games. She highlighted Luke Kuechly as slightly overrated, in large part because too many pundits believe they know what assignments and responsibilities are within an NFL defense. That key evaluation information is rarely known, she said.

The Miko interview starts at about the 26-minute mark below.

Miko for President…. she has more class than the bad hair guy and the lying skank who are currently running…

  2. StPeteBucsFan Says:

What disturbs me in life is when somebody shoots off their mouth without knowing what they’re talking about.

It’s like having a dude run for President who probably couldn’t even tell you the three branches of American government and their responsibilities.

Miko though clearly pays attention and views this as her job. I worked for 30 years in my own career, the last 15 I was business manager in my wife’s office.
I learned more about dentistry than I ever imagined. I think Miko has paid her dues in terms of studying the sports and some of the intricacies that are included.

If somebody is knowledgeable I got no problem with them stating their opinion. Clearly Miko is not just pulling these opinions out of her posterior.

  3. Fsuking Says:

She just keeps digging. Vocal NFL wife’s should not exist if they are not using their exposure for good things, not explosive diarrhea of the mouth.

  4. Mike Johnson Says:

She should just cook her husbands meals and shut the F..up! Like a nice little
leech always does. That’s what happens when you marry [edited for hate speech]

  5. jb Says:

All I know is I hope she’s sitting next to us behind the Bucs bench once the season starts. This team needs more loud fans that aren’t afraid to speak out!!

  6. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    ROFLMAO!!!!!!!

Miko let that woman have it! She called her out, lol.

CLEARLY you did not play the whole thing. Miko called out the interviewer for saying things that were lies…and the interviewer denied it.

So negotiating a better contract for her husband is a bad thing???

Exposing her husband’s former employer for smearing her husband and damaging his negotiating leverage is a bad thing???

  9. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Just an FYI…Miko was telling to truth about Kate’s comments on first take. HEre’s the proof:

  12. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Miko’s got some pit bull in her. She’ll make the season a little more interesting.

    Indeed!

  14. Defense Rules Says:

It’s humorous to think how Greg Schiano and Lovie Smith would’ve fared had Brent Grimes been on the team for those 4 years. Miko would’ve had them for lunch.

  15. feelthepewterpower Says:

I respect Miko, but how can Miko say that “no one really knows who the best middle linebacker is” and then turn around and criticize others for not believing her husband is no longer a number one corner without having facts? Her telling us she knows football is an opinion, not a fact. Isn’t playing well in big moments a huge factor is determining who the best players are? Sure, Kuechly was surrounded by a talented defense but he still had to go out and make those plays. Great players find ways to stand-out even on bad teams, they still make the play when the opportunity presents itself.

  16. William Walls Says:

I’ll admit I was dubious about having Miko around. But, now that I’ve seen and heard more from her own mouth, I really think my concerns were very likely unfounded. Mea culpa, Miko. Carry on.

  17. chromolly Says:

I changed my tune about this chick she knows what she’s talking about and if she was my wife I would hope me and her as a team she would negotiate the best deal for both of us I have no problem with that

  18. Buc1987 Says:

    Miko fan from day 1.

  19. USFBUC Says:

Like Joe said a team distracted by comments from somebody that is not a direct part of the organization is just silly. Reporters routinely manipulate statements to get headlines. Everyone has an opinion and should be allowed to make their opinion known. Her talking about the Dolphins is no different than any other media personality.

  20. Trubucfan22 Says:

Talking back and defending her husband or team from a media article is one thing. But saying your teams QB sucks and stuff like that is really uncalled for. But knowing that Grimes wanted out of Miami makes sense that she would cause a stir and maybe make the situation easier for miami to walk away from.

But you can’t honestly say that a player’s wife calling your QB a scrub is good for the team chemistry and locker room relationship between players.

Also i had no idea she was his agent. That is an interesting nugget.

  21. Willy D Buc Says:

That was a good listen – Miko is obviously sharp and impassioned. ‘Happy they’re Bucs!!
Yeah JB, it’d be refreshing to have some loud-mouthed company beside myself!

  22. ThunderBuc81 Says:

I dont have any issues with him or her being apart of this team. I think the majority of sports reporters speak out of their @$$ because probably dont know enough about the team or its inter-workings. Welcome to Tampa Grimes family.

  23. OAR Says:

    “Grow a pair!”……….she has!

  24. Darren Says:

I’m a Dolphins link to this site from profootballtalk when Brent has one bad game and one question Brent ability you will regret having Miko and Brent don’t asked Dolphins asked Falcons fans too believe she would say everybody socks on defense but her husband be prepared
