Lavonte David Stuffs The Ballot Box

It’s that time of year when we can celebrate Buccaneers being honored by their peers.

When you finish in the NFC South cellar five consecutive seasons, it’s easy to get excited about this kind of stuff.

On the popular NFL Network series Top-100 Players of 2016, as voted by 700 actual players and compiled by NFL Films, no Buccaneers have appeared to date in the revealed slots, Nos. 81 through 100.

This bodes very well for Doug Martin and America’s Quarterback, who could join perennial Top-100 honorees Lavonte David and Gerald McCoy.

Joe asked David whether he got to vote for this year’s winners. David was selected to be among the lucky 700 voters, and he admitted to stuffing the ballot box.

“When I do it, I pick all my teammates, I’m very biased,” David said. “Those are all the the guys I actually know about as people and players. I honestly pick all my teammates.”

David said he recalled the process allowed him to choose 20 players, but he didn’t remember other details. NFL Films, he said, came to One Buc Palace and led the voting and interviewed players for the broadcast.

As Joe’s readers can imagine, Joe is pulling for Jameis. Derrick Carr and Kurt Freaking Cousins already have been named for 2016. How could Jameis not be chosen by his peers?

And that’s why the Electoral College exists…

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

If everyone voted exactly the way LVD says he votes…..he would end up being tied with 639 other players all with one vote each…..
Don’t think its a good idea for him to reveal how he votes…..sort of minimizes the process.

  3. Dewey Selmon Says:

So now we know the whole thing is a farce. And how do you expect #3 to be ahead of Cousins and Carr. He is a 2nd year player with a 6-10 record.

  4. LordCornelius Says:

Carr had better season than Jameis technically and Cousins’ team made the playoffs

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Pardon…..more than one vote….but nevertheless….would still be tied.

  6. Dave Says:

    David, McCoy, Martin, Belong.
Winston, Mankins, Evans could be there

  7. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Tampabaybucfan

Not true, there will be a couple of players who did not vote or forgot to turn it in ala josh freeman style!!!!

  8. Howard Cosell Says:

Kurt Cousins: How can you not like this guy? He SHREDDED Lovies secondary and then went on to capture the moment in an inspirational and epic meme that will live in infamy. Then he went on to have a great season against other teams.
Don’t get Howard wrong, he hates teams and players that beat the Bucs, particularly the stinkin Panthers and the Dirty Birds, but Cousins…..you can’t help but respect the guys Winston-like sincerity and enthusiasm even if you hate the SnyderSkins.

    YOU LIKE THAT!!

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Realist

Obviously…..you are correct and not everyone votes the same…..some take it more seriously…..
I’d like to ask LVD…..who he voted for with picks 7-20 because I can’t think of more than 6 that possibly deserve it.
My top 6 would be Martin, GMC, LVD, Evans, Jameis & Mankins……

i wish LVD was more worried about winning games than personal accolades or stuffing ballot boxes. The recognition will come with team wins. Let’s be honest, LVD played like garbage for part of last year. In my opinion LVD is too worried about lists and pro bowls. Win games and do your job and the recognition will come. Team first. When you are on one of the worst defenses in nfl history you need to turn that around by winning instead of getting upset about snubs and personal recognition. Pro bowl is a meaningless popularity contest just like what the hall of fame has turned into.

  11. BigHogHaynes Says:

Do you LVD, with Kwon in his second year I expect a pro bowl season from the both of them, this game brings a lot of accolades, attain as much as you can!

If all the players voted on teammates? Your math doesn’t add up, buddy.

The starters get to vote. 22 starters per team. So the players would get 22 votes each, not one vote each.

  13. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @tmaxcon

You know…when the overall defense sucked, it wasn’t because of LVD. You essentially have 3 great players on the defense…GMC, LVD and GhengisKwon.

That means 8 other players were not up to par. 3 players can’t do it all. 4 couldn’t either. (based on 11 starters)

  14. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

And when Kwon was suspended, the number of great players went down to 2.

That’s why the team lost the last 4 games.

  15. Tampa Tony Says:

Cousins went to the playoffs!!! Carr had a superior statistical year to Jameis

Doubt Hillsborough County’s QB makes it until his accuracy and decision making improves

  16. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

As to Jameis…it’s up to him to prove he deserves to be higher than he is listed.

  17. Bigbucs1 Says:

The thing is that jemeis is at the top 100- NFL network seemed to have tipped the hat on the very first episode when they said there were 15- I mean 15 QBs – after that they showed Rodgers, Brady, Brees and Winston so putting it together- he’s gotta be there somewhere.
