“Not Ready To Make Jameis The Assistant GM”

Jameis has the clothes and the pull, but he won't get the title.

Jameis has the clothes and the pull, but he won’t get the title.

Yes, one could say America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, plays a role in personnel matters at One Buc Palace.

No, he’s not a scout or a film guru, or a member of Jason Licht’s esteemed college scouting staff. But still, Jameis has pull.

Remember, it was Jameis endorsed Noah Spence before the draft. And it was Roberto Aguayo, at the NFL Scouting Combine, who told Joe he aspires to lead like Jameis and join him in Tampa.

Jason Licht hopped on Total Access on NFL Network last night and was asked what kind of influence Jameis had on the stunning Aguayo trade-up and pick. Licht said he got a thumbs-up, via a significant text exchange, from Jameis earlier this year.

“I’m not ready to make Jameis the assistant GM yet, but I do take his word when he says that somebody’s a great kid in terms of their ability, in terms of their character, and a great teammate,” Licht said. “We’re going to listen to him.”

Again, Joe’s not saying Jameis wears the big boy pants at One Buc Palace, or is a draft diva demanding say in personnel. And Licht hardly makes picks in a vacuum without his staff input.

But, yes, Jameis is an important voice, as he should be.

    Winston easily responsible for 2 picks, Spence and Roberto! So yes he has a strong voice in personnel.

  2. Buc1987 Says:

    Jameis probably studied as much college film as any one of the Bucs scouts.

    So why not?

  3. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Joe

    Are you sure it was not a text forward by JW3 originally sent from MG8?????

  4. Bucsfanman Says:

    You got to have buy-in right? You’d be crazy not to want to play with this guy!

    I can’t wait to hear what Pablo has to say about this.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

    “Pablo salutes Hamus for encouraging Hason to pick Aguayo “El Asesino” Pablo thinks Pablo had influence also…..with all of Pablo’s pleas to sign somebody brown”

    Every human color is a shade of brown.

    jameis has pull….a little birdy told me when a hometown wr was cut a week ago it was jameis that went to dirk and suggest the team sign the wr back because he liked the way the wr caught the ball, ran routes and had a large catch radius….the wr was invited back on a tryout basis and was signed yesterday….as I told the wr, once training camp and preseason come around, you have to take advantage of every opportunity you get including film study, blocking and running extra gassers after practice…I have faith the hometown wr will make the team and if he does he has the ability to be very productive….GO BUCS!!!

  9. Ocala Says:

    It is prudent to speak with our guys about prospects
    I’m sure Jameis told Jason or Dirk that VH3 was a tough opponent and was hard to throw against.

    To not ask him about VH3 or Roberto would not be wise.
    Just like I’m sure the coaches talked to Mike Glennon about Sweezy.

    Jameis is a winner, a great person and a leader.

    I know it’s only been one year but if Jameis stays healthy during his career I am very confident that five years after his retirement he will get his gold jacket.

  10. Ben the Ga Buc Says:

    813bucboi, I know whom you’re referring to, and all he needs is a legit chance. Said hometown wr has the size and hands to be a good possession wr in the nfl. Just needs a shot.

  11. 813bucboi Says:

    @ben…exactly…GO BUCS!!!

  14. Malevolentmuse Says:

    He has pull, but he also said he wanted the team to trade up to get Ramsey.

  15. NewBucPlace Says:

    Jamies knows jaylen Ramsey is the best player in the draft class, but that was too far up to trade.
