Jags Lurking To Help Bucs

Draft Voodoo time

If the Bucs can’t win the Josh Norman sweepstakes, then Joe’s rooting for the rapidly emerging Jaguars to take home the prized cornerback.

The logic is simple.

If the Jags ink Norman, then perhaps they’re more likely to fortify their offense and draft an offensive lineman with the No. 5 overall pick, or trade down with one of the many teams seeking a prized left tackle.

ProFootballTalk.com shared a nugget today claiming the Jags are lurking in the Norman courting with a massive pile of salary cap room.

Bucs fans should be praying for that to happen, so more defensive treasures head in the Bucs’ direction, such as versatile defensive back Jalen Ramsey, manbeast defensive end/tackle Deforest Buckner and DE Joey Bosa.

Far too many think the Ravens at No. 6 will go defense, specifically , if Buckner is available. But Joe, along with NFL.com scouting guru Lance Zierlein, sees the Ravens primed to take one of the offensive tackles off the board. Perhaps GMs will feel the same way and be eager to leapfrog the Ravens and grab the Jaguars spot.

Bottom line: Joe and every thinking Bucs fans should be tapping all their Voodoo magic to will the teams picking before the Bucs to grab an offensive player.

Joe will now resume his regularly scheduled prayers for Dallas to snatch running back Ezekiel Elliot with the No. 4 overall pick.

I think the Titans are targeting Ronnie Stanley and will need to get into the top 10 to do that. Couple more deals coming…

  2. briandorry55 Says:

For what it’s worth…I’ve heard that Ramsey is the #1 player on the Cowboys board…the Jags could still take Ramsey and play him at safety (where he’s better) if they signed Norman. If anyone falls to us it would probably be Buckner and he’s a terrible fit.

  3. unbelievable Says:

No thanks to Buckner. Not really excited by Bosa either, but I doubt he falls that far anyway.

  4. LordCornelius Says:

The only player that would fall potentially that really helps us is Bosa. Ramsey is not falling. Buckner is a bad fit. I’d rather have Myles Jack than Buckner. Hell I’d rather have an o lineman or Rankins.

  5. R.O. Says:

Still on the Buckner and Bosa rant…. Not sure what you think they bring that we already don’t have… The Top of the Dline draft is very overwhelming. Really would rather we trade down if we can…

  6. R.O. Says:

    *** underwhelming

  7. Couch Fan Says:

He’s not leaving Washington. Snider always gets his busts.

  8. CaptainStagger Says:

Those that say Buckner is a bad fit either have seen Mike Smith’s playbook, or think we are still running a Tampa 2….smh

  9. steve Says:

Hope the Bucs do not get a chance to draft Bosa. For some reason I just think this kid has BUST written all over him!!!

  10. Matt Says:

As a Jags fan, you make some good points, but some mistakes as well.

After signing Beachum, the odds of Jax taking anyone on the offensive side in round 1 are pretty much zero. ((Quite dramatic!–Joe))

Landing Norman would however allow Ramsey and/or Hargreaves to fall since we’d have a dressed both FS (Gipson) and corner at that point.

Regardless, I fully expect Jax to take Jack or Bosa with the #5 pick whether we sign Norman or not

  11. Dr. Paul Bearer Says:

I, too, am available to help with the lurking.

    I’m lurking for you ….

  12. jb Says:

Joe is gonna s*** a brick when we take Stanley or Conklin. lmao!!!

  13. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

Anyone see the ESPN Mock Draft last night? I had a good chuckle when Kiper, picking for the Bucs, took an Offensive Tackle.

I thought of the Joes 😉

  14. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Can anyone explain to me why Buckner would not be a good fit?

I’m not leaning toward him anyway, but I think he’s being misjudged.

    @Love and Warrick Dunn

Kiper is wrong most of the time anyway, but there is the possibility that the Bucs take a right tackle. Anything is possible.

Except predicting what Jason Licht will actually do.

  15. Hawaiian Buc Says:

No matter what, we aren’t going to get Bosa or Ramsey at 9. I’d be shocked if either makes it out of the top 5 or 6. Some team will trade up and get them. I could be wrong, but it doesn’t seem like Licht’s style to trade up. He seems more like a trade down or stay put kind of guy. I think he believes in himself and his scouts enough to where he doesn’t have to do that, and in turn give up picks.

  16. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @Hawaiian Buc

He traded up last year, if I recall.

  17. Lou Says:

Draft Rankins stay @9. Or make Jon Robinson pay up!!!!

  18. unbelievable Says:

He traded up to get back into the 2nd round.

That is VERY different than trading up in the 1st, especially in the top 10.

  19. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

So it looks like VHIII failed a drug test at the combine…..you guys still want him?

  20. Couch Fan Says:

Depends on what drug. I personally dont think we need a CB at #9 anyways.

  21. LordCornelius Says:

Buckner is just a bad 4-3 fit period regardless of Tampa 2 or Mike Smith. Steven White did a good write up on him that I recommend reading. He’d still be useful to our D or any D but we wouldn’t be maximizing his talent as much as a team that can play him around in a 3-4.

He’s undersized at DT and oversized and very slow for a rush DE in 4-3. He’d be great against the run but is not going to specialize in pressuring the QB or wreaking havoc around the edge. He’d definitely make our d line better but doesn’t give us something new that we don’t already have in Gholston / Ayers. He’s like an upgraded Gholston with more potential.

I’d rather have a pure 4-3 penetrating DT like Rankins who is bigger / quicker / more disruptive

  22. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Buccaneer Bonzai,

He didn’t trade up in the first. Just to move up a few spots in the first round, the price is really steep. To move up in the late second or third, the price is much more reasonable. If I recall correctly, he used the pick he acquired in another trade to move up and get Marpet. But that’s a far cry from giving up a future first and/or a couple seconds just to move up 4 or 5 slots. I just don’t see it happening, but who knows.

  23. WheresYourBuccaneers? Says:

I usually don’t scream but here goes… DRAFT RANKINS! Sapp 2.0!

  24. pick6 Says:

Ramsey falling to #9 would be like finding a lottery ticket in the street, but i don’t love anybody else that we couldn’t also get 5 or 6 spots later. i’d be looking for a trade down partner unless Ramsey is magically still on the board

  25. Kevin Says:

I agree with Hawaiian Buc, I dont see licht trading up. If the guys saw what they saw in Marpet, maybe they know of some talent hidden in this draft. I just know I want spence worth the roll of the dice in my opinion

  26. OneBuc55 Says:

Trade back and take Rankins or Nkemdiche…then take Ogbah in the early 2nd…We have to put pressure on Cam, Ryan and Brees…

  27. ak427er Says:

Stacking 2 beasts next to one another on your line would not be so terrible. I could see 22 sacks between the 2 and 1 side of the line nobody would run at.. yeah that’d be terrible

  28. Trubucfan22 Says:

Buckner is not a good edge rusher. That’s why he is a bad fit. He is a tweener DT/DE. He would play best as a 3-4 DE. His body and his skillset fit that position.

I am also not very impressed with the edge rushers in this years draft. We will pick one because it is a need, but none of the DE prospects are elite players.
