It’s Vernon Hargreaves In The First Round!!

Your newest Tampa Bay Buccaneer

The all-out assault to repair the Buccaneers’ secondary continues.

General manager Jason Licht locked down Vernon Hargreaves in the first round of the NFL Draft moments ago, at No. 11 overall, following a smooth move to trade down from No. 9 with the Chicago Bears.

Hargreaves is very versatile and talented out of the University of Florida. He was the “chalk” pick of the mock drafters, and here he is.

Was cornerback a true “need” for Tampa Bay? No way, not compared to edge rusher. But Ronde Barber disagrees. Back in March (video here), Barber said the Bucs should go cornerback.

Just 20 years old, the 5-11 Hargreaves drew major love from former Bucs tight end Anthony Becht for being the best all-around corner in the draft and an instant “game-changer.”

We shall soon find out.

Now go get an edge rusher, Mr. Licht.

Worst pick ever that’s all we need a slow small CB FML

  5. NYbucsfan Says:

    Go get spence

  6. Ed Says:

Very good selection a footballer from the SEC.

  7. Leighroy Says:

Grimes can impart some wisdom on being small, and making it as a pro.

  8. Mike Says:

    Lame

  9. Bird Says:

Joe. Way to bet a nickel that it wasn’t Hargreaves. Wrong again

  10. Mr. T Says:

    Game changer, we’ll see.

  11. KnoxvilleBuc Says:

Better get two D-line players next after that pick.

  12. IANGatorBuc Says:

    @NYbucsfan
That’s what they said about Ronde too

  13. Guzzie Says:

Watching New Orleans draft future all pro Sheldon Rankins will make me hate life for next 4 years

  14. Walter Says:

    Boooo!!

  15. NJBucsFan Says:

Out maneuvered by the Giants this year. Wanted Apple.

  16. Espo Says:

Well that broke my little Espo heart. Hopefully it’ll pan out.

  17. Patrick in VA Says:

If he was the pick all along then good on licht for getting your guy while getting additional picks.

  18. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

    Really not impressed with this

Spence, Ogbah, Dodd and Lawson all still on the board, all play a bigger position of need, and all guys that I think will end up being better pros

    Oh well

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Hometown player…….solid pick @ 11……now let’s use that extra pick to trade back up……

  20. Superd950 Says:

Excited to have a new CB member of the Bucs! Let’s do this Vernon!

  21. feelthepewterpower Says:

    it’s about BPA….not about need…but if it meets a need, great…..

  22. Abdominal Snowman Says:

Wah little babies. This is the best cb in the draft. Inch shorter than revis oh no! Like the extra fourth and still got our guy. Now use that fourth to trade into first for DE

  23. DaRealistBucFan Says:

I hope licht gets fired for drafting this scrub

  24. ElioT Says:

    F**k this s**t!!!

  25. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I was hoping we’d trade down again. Just glad the pick wasn’t Floyd.

  26. Trubucfan22 Says:

I like it. The guy Has the potential to be an elite CB. I see him like a Joe Haden or Brent Grimes. Guys who are smaller but have great instincts and talent. We needed the CB of the future. Verner and grimes will be gone in a year or 2.

I expect a trade up to get a DE by the end of the night. That is why Licht traded back, to gain more ammo to trade up. Good move. We can stil end up with a strong DE.

  27. Walter Says:

Hopefully the rest of the draft makes up for this blunder

  28. AceofAerospace Says:

I couldn’t be happier, but I am a Gator homer. I think Bucs fans will be happy in time.

  29. DaRealistBucFan Says:

Slow and small . who is he gonna cover butterbean? I hope they fire everyone from licht on dowN.

  30. gotbbucs Says:

    Poop!

  31. Phillybuc Says:

Not impressed with this pic. Need D line

  32. mike10 Says:

Boo to the boo.. Where u going to get a DE?… And don’t say Ayers!

  33. Bucsfaninchina Says:

B*tching Buc fans… never a surprise. Local boy whonbrings swagger and playmaking ability who can learn from Grimes til he is ready. And get ammunition to get Spence if he falls. A+ Mr Licht.

  34. JMicSoundsNice Says:

I say move back up and grab Tunsil. He should be motivated enough by they late first round.

  35. Pete Mitchell Says:

Meh. I really hope Rankins doesn’t terrorize us for the next eight years…

  36. Tbbucs3 Says:

Great pick he prove all y’all wrong year. Remember Jason Licht is a better football evaluator than all of us.

  37. Bucsfaninchina Says:

Dolphin fans gotta be psyched about Tunsil

  38. Frank Pillow Says:

Dolphins have the balls we should’ve had. Tunsil at 11 was worth the risk

  39. LifeOfABucFan Says:

I called it!! This little woman was right about VH3!!!!!!!!

Wharton High students are going crazy here in my house! And that’s because I can see Wharton from my backyard!!

    I am so FREAKING HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!

  40. MadMax Says:

Congrats VH3! Hope you turn into a beast for us.

  41. WheresYourBuccaneers? Says:

Just drafted a 5’10” BOY to cover 6’4″ men in the NFL??
Can you say “jump ball in the endzone”? What an absolute WASTE of a pick. wow!
Could have had Rankins but NOOOOOOOOOOOO
They will absolutely find a way to suck EVERY SINGLE TIME!

  42. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

We just picked the best CB in the draft and guys are calling for Licht to be fired! ROFLMFAO! Gotta love the passion of our fans. Gotta also have faith in Licht. I think he always intended to pick VH3. I think he also probably grades 6 or 7 DL nearly the same, so now he has an extra pick to play with to get back into the first round if need be to get one. Otherwise he can use the extra pick later, either to move up or to get another quality player. I know many of you will hate this, but that is what Rich McKay used to do all the time.

  43. HIRE JIMBO Says:

Ok licht, I ain’t mad @ u. There was talk only a couple months ago that VH3 wouldn’t even be there for us @9.

  44. Brent bull/buc Says:

Like it picked up a 4th too. Get de tomorrow.

  45. TvD Head ball coach Says:

Great job!! Traded back and stole VH3 at 11! Don’t mind all the Gator haters they will soon forget once he has 8 picks in his rookie season..

  46. Capt. Tim Says:

Pretty obvious now, That Lovie was making the picks

This kid is a Slow,Lazy Midget
Only useful as a slot corner- which are a dime a dozen

Typical lousy pick. Tampa is back to form
Guess two good drafts in a row, are the most this cursed Franchise is allowed.

At least I wont waste any more time watching the draft

  47. WheresYourBuccaneers? Says:

Rankins is gonna whip our asses two times a year. mark it down.

  48. Bird Says:

Man. I know everyone has a right to their opinion but man there are some morons posting here. One guy saying he hopes licht should get fired is classic moron. I am not a gator but my brother is and hasn’t missed one of his games and says he is so much like joe Haden. Anyone think he is garbage. Plenty o DEs out there and wouldn’t be surprised to see bucs move back up into 1st Getting 4th rounder nice touch by licht. Again.

  49. BucsForYodaIs Says:

Good pick, this is. Work hard at his craft he does, with much talent. Pro Bowl corner for many years he will be. Ronde Barber, he reminds me of.

  50. Horice Says:

Don’t like the pic… He can attempt to prove me wrong! Bum shoulder Ayers or “quick to catch a personal foul” WG is supposed to carry us next year? 93 needs help! And we needed to draft at least 2 DE’s with the first two pics and pray at least one shakes out! Jason is gambling with his own job getting a slow corner in the first round. SMFH! And screw the Chargers and the 49ers… Bunch of bums!

  51. Dreambig Says:

wow, a bit underwhelmed by this pick. hope Licht knows what he is doing.

  52. BucsForYodaIs Says:

Capt. Tim, get a life you must.

  53. Abdominal Snowman Says:

How can any of you assume this is a bad pick? Oh no we suck again! (single tear drops).

I think at wworst he will be a solid starter and at best an elite player. To assume he will bust and Rankins will destroy us is either clairvoyant or ignorant at best.

  54. Abdominal Snowman Says:

Gholston is improving every year and in a contract year, so is Spence. Jack Smith is a beast when healthy and we added Ayers. I think we will still draft a DE in next two picks so I’m happy we have the best cb in the draft.

  55. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I’m not thrilled with the pick, but none of us know how he’ll turn out in the NFL. For the last two years Licht was a draft God, now everyone is killing him over a player that hasn’t played a down yet?! He might be a bust, I don’t know, but after the past two drafts how about we give Licht the benefit of the doubt. He’s not who I would have picked, but I’ll reserve judgment until Hargreaves second year. The draft is young and I’m sure he’ll use that 4th round pick to move up at some point in rounds 2 or 3.

  56. The bucfan 88 Says:

Great pick Jason did a great job with this pick let me get this off my chest those of u arguing about his height I’m calling u out I don’t think u a true buc fan cause a man by the name of ronde barber was pick by the Bucs none of y’all hated him so think about that for a second

  57. Destinjohnny Says:

    Average
    2 round pick

  58. BamaBuc Says:

I see the negativity is back. That didn’t take long!!

  59. Abdominal Snowman Says:

Buccaneeric75 that is exactly right. In licht we must trust. He’s proved himself so far so I trust him and his scouts talent evaluations over JBF posters.

  60. HIRE JIMBO Says:

Neal @ 17. Lol, do you guys realize that spence or another good DE might just fall to us with all these off the wall 1st round picks. But I think the Colts might take spence. I have heard that they r in love with him. I’ll be mad if he is the pick

  61. Tackleblockwin Says:

I think maybe Bucs were trying to trade back again. But grabbing a very good CB will not hurt this team at all. Is he the greatest QB ever? No, but he changes games. Extra 4th rounder us a nice CB…I’m all in!

  62. Hasson Arbubakkr Says:

We’re set at CB, now let’s go get some d-linemen!

  63. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Folks..it’s not over yet..now we get to draft the other missing pieces..

He is the best CB in the draft..his height? LMFAO!! It will help when he can make those damn jumps like Grimes and Barber did!

You all a bunch of cry babies..suck it up cupcakes, he is now a Buc!

  64. Tackleblockwin Says:

    *CB

  65. Jaboo Bucs 04 Says:

    Big Dawg gone love thisπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  66. Brent bull/buc Says:

All kinds of elite corners at 5-11 not a problem. Polian says guys good get an extra 4th. Also he was probably the highest rated guy at that point. He’s 3 time all sec 1st team yeah he sux!! Lol

  67. Buc lives matter Says:

    Only time will tell….
Balls = Tunsil to keep JW3 from having to scramble like a new-born deer
Brains = Rankins to pair with McCoy and have OL pissing their jock straps

I’ll give JL the benefit of the doubt as he is the man and has done a tremendous job for us so far. Mike Smith…please for the love of baby Jesus do something with this kid. And fix Verner while your at it.

P.s. Do they make lifts for cleats?

  68. BucGator Says:

Welcome our new punt returner as well

  69. LifeOfABucFan Says:

I just ordered the jersey..it has number 16..but stupid me didn’t realise it was subject to change..I said I would be the first to order it..I think I was second..

Now let’s get some LSU boys over to the Bucs..got a few I like!!!

  70. DaRealistBucFan Says:

Licht is a draft God? πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜… licht is a f-ing idiot. Mike Evans was a reach at 5. We could’ve had ODBJ. Evans can’t catch a cold . he wasted picks on Caelin Clay, Solomon Patton, Robert Herron, Iosefa, Hakeem Edwards. I can keep going. Ok so he got the Winston pick right. He damn well better it was the 1st pick. Donovan Smith is ok Marpet is good when healthy. Kwon is good but I’m sure that was lovies pick. So 3 picks that have panned out so fa . Yes Licht is awesome lemme tell ya about it. Like I said before he should’ve been fired along with Lovie.

  71. CaptBUC Says:

two words come to mind TOO SLOW!!!!!!

  72. DaRealistBucFan Says:

I remember a gator once whom got so much hype and we drafted him. I believe his name was Kenyatta Walker god rest his soul. So Yes VHIII is a scrub. Don’t worry I’ll be here to say I told you so

  73. rayjay1122 Says:

As a Gator fan, i am not sold on VH3. Hopefully he will not suck too bad as a pro.

  74. Buc Lives Matter! Says:

DaRealistBucFan can count to potato too.

  75. Joey T Says:

Solomon Patton was an undrafted free agent you idiot. But you know it all. Lmao

  76. Brent bull/buc Says:

1st team all sec 3 years. Played the best every week. Explain that.

  77. Tbbucs3 Says:

Licht does the firing around here, the glazers trust him more than themselves.

  78. SOEbuc Says:

Not my favorite, but if Licht thinks that was the best decision Im not gonna just gonna turn on him like that. Now if we can to the place where we can get Noah Spence or Emanuel Ogbah I will be pleased

  79. robert Says:

good pick.worst db in the NFL last year, was not all on love.

  80. SOEbuc Says:

When new orleans took Rankins I did take a big shot of Jack. I would really like to know what the hell happened with Tunsil. All i was hearing about was weed

  81. jenaw Says:

Abdominal Snowman & Bucs Fan Since ’76 Says – REALLY?! What world are you living in?! Hargreaves isn’t close to being the best cb in the draft. The best went to the Jaqs and that would be Jalen Ramsey. Even if I wasn’t an FSU alum, combine results, pro day results and multiple years of FSU vs gators while Hargreaves was on the field getting little to no results, makes it a plain truth. Beyond his nonexistence during FSU/Florida games I don’t know much about his play but if he couldn’t make his presence known in 3 years of playing FSU how much can he do at the pro level?

Since the Bucs have drafted him I hope he develops WAY beyond what he’s played in college but I’m not real hopeful. : (
