“Our Entire Secondary, All Of Our Corners, Really Look Up To Him”

Brent Grimes will have a lot on his shoulders

Hero in the house!

Once upon a time, Darrelle Revis held the title of role model in the Bucs’ secondary. That didn’t last long, but Revis still got a chance to mold Johnthan Banks, and the two stayed close.

Now, cornerback Brent Grimes is a Buccaneer, a frustrating thorn for Rex Ryan. Yesterday at the NFL Owners Meetings, Bucs general manager Jason Licht told Pro Football Talk, of NBC Sports Network, that Grimes is an impact player that also has the defense’s attention.

“Our entire secondary, all of our corners, really look up to him,” Licht said.

Grimes’ role will be an interesting dynamic. After what happened last season under Lovie Smith, the (talented?) Bucs secondary needs a revival. They just might get it from a new set of coaches and a four-time Pro Bowler with a very interesting wife.

Enjoy the Licht video below. Joe will dissect a couple of points in here later this week.

Grimes has been a great player. Only time will tell if he will be a great player for us. Even if he loses a step this year, he will better than Jenkins/Jennings.

Wonder if Grimes was brought in to mentor Hargreaves from UF

No mistake, I think the Glazers and Licht will continue to build with guys with Florida roots. Ticket prices just went up.

I hope he doesn’t lose a step this year…GO BUCS!!!!

He already lost a step. Watch the film of him the second half of the year…If he was still playing at that high of a level, the Dolphins would have kept him and dealt with his wife’s tantrums. The Dolphins secondary needs major improvement (like the Bucs), but they felt fine about letting Grimes walk. Think about it… I love being optimistic as many of my fellow Bucs fans do, but you gotta be real about these 30+ FA…Joe please stop giving Jonathan Banks so much credit. He had a rough year and has been inconsistent his entire career.

If Brent Grimes played bad this year why was he sent as an alternate to the Pro Bowl? The thing is that Grimes on his worst day is better than anyone in our secondary, on his best day he can play with anyone. OBJ did get the best of him with a bunch of spectacular plays but Grimes had enough recovery speed to stay right with hm. That means he still has something left. We are really going to need Josh Robinson to step up if we want our coverage woes to go away. The more I think about it we rally may need to draft a CB early.
