“One Of My Favorite Corners For A Long Time”

Alterraun Verner is inspired by change

Love is in the air, and this has absolutely nothing to do with Miko Grimes.

Alterraun Verner is feeling the love, so the Bucs’ 27-year-old cornerback Twittered last night.

It turns out one of Verner’s NFL crushes is on the Bucs’ newest defensive back acquisition: four-time Pro Bowler Brent grimes.

@Alvern_1 – Having Brent Grimes on the team will be a true blessing. Been one of my favorite corners for a long time. Time to compete

Any player can easily respect Grimes, who was undrafted out of Division II ball in 2006. Then he played for three team in the defunct NFL Europe in 2007, before grinding his way to a starting job with the Falcons in 2008, when he snatched six interceptions.

In 2010, the 5-10 Grimes was a Pro Bowler when Verner was a rookie.

Joe’s been a fan of Grimes for years, too, and Joe wanted the Bucs to consider him as a free agent in 2013. Grimes plays with great intensity and drive, that chip on his shoulder that more Bucs need.

it’s a great time to be a bucs fan. I am excited to see what an open minded coach can accomplish withe the existing talent. I am also betting the players will play with a little bit more heart and enthusiasm with the new less restrictive systems in place.

I believe this man can play,Duke was rated behind only Revis and Sherman just a few seasons ago. Now the coach that help make him probowler in the building, I’m expecting a bouce back from Verner. The motivation of Grimes being around can only help this notion.

I agree tmax, really lokking forward to seeing these dudes play unleashed.

  4. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Obviously starting with #3 but it seems to be permeating the entire team, seems to be the desire to have a “tight” team with a good locker room. I can see lots of guys ready to step up and do their part. It’s great that a position teammate welcomes a new vet to the team!!!

To short Julio Jones will eat him up.. wish we still had revis…

  6. Stanglassman Says:

Grimes was part of the big turn around of the Hamburg Sea Devils, the 2007 NFL Europe Champs.

  7. Blake_BucsFan Says:

Revis is 5’11” height really isn’t that important of a trait for corners. It HELPS but isn’t necessary.

  8. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

I agree Blake. I like those corners like Revis that have that “dog” in them. I sense some of that in this Grimes kid.

  9. LifeOfABucFan Says:

I was watching a lot of videos on Grimes..some that Miko posted and some on YouTube..he does this thing where he just jumps four feet up in the air without hoping up..then there’s the one legged jump, like 4 feet up..it’s so strange to see..it’s kinda freaky..lol…you have to see it for yourself..

And as far as the positive energy, yeah no kidding, it’s even seeping through my home!

Can’t wait till tomorrow and see if we pick up RW!

We got conte signed he staying

  11. HIRE JIMBO Says:

We just resigned Conte one year deal

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

If you have a pulse, you’ve got to be excited to have a player like Grimes in our secondary.
If you don’t have a pulse…..Miko just might prove you do.

  13. Mike Johnson Says:

We will see what Verner can do under a new system. This past season though, he was a little unimpressive. He got beat like a drum on a lot of plays. Perhaps it could have been the system. But..we shall see if this new coaching staff has a positive effect on him.

  14. cmurda Says:

It’s a very good signing. Look at his numbers last year in 14 years. Very solid especially for only 14 games played. He’s 27 years old also which isn’t terrible. He could easily have some gas in the tank for 3 or 4 years but we are only locked in for another. It also gives us a chance to draft his replacement and let the rookie learn under him. I like this. It also gives us the flexibility to not have to draft a safety high in the draft.

  15. Kevin Schmidt Says:

DAMN the Bucs are going to be so much fun to watch holy hell I can’t firkin wait already! Think the impact those two guys are going to have on Banks this season!

I really believe that guys like Grimes and Ayers would go elsewhere had it not been for the Lovie firing and more importantly James Winston.

  16. Pat Says:

Has all the variables in place for success. Great addition.

  17. Architek Says:

Some of you guys are just negative by nature – complain about the sky being blue and the football being leather.

    #SHEESH

  18. Espo Says:

I loved it when Freeman hit him out of bounds after throwing a pick. At the time, I thought our qb had fire. Times have changed

  19. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

    I concur Mike.

  20. BigHogHaynes Says:

@Tmaxcon: Opened minded, that wouldn’t be a dig at my man LOVIE would it?

  21. mike10 Says:

Verner is not very good, but he is one of my favorite (although vastly overpaid) Bucs. He always takes everything w a grain of salt, and with the best interests of the team in mind.

I think it was…. as compared to empty minded.

  23. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Can’t be too empty considering the dollas that guy clockin.

  24. godzilla13 Says:

If Mackensie Alexander or William Jackson fall to us in the second round we should draft them.

  25. MadMax Says:

Def with you on Alexander. After watching his pro day and more vids of him, he’d be a steal at #39.

  26. cmurda Says:

My bad. My previous post was intended for the Conte article.

  27. bucs4life86 Says:

Looks like our depth chart @ CB will go like this…

    No. 1 – Brent Grimes

    No. 2 – Jonathan Banks

    Nickel – Alteraun Verner

I’m guessing they will keep Verner at nickel because Banks is better on the outside and theres no doubt that Grimes will come in here as our no. 1 guy unless he is unseated wich I highly doubt. Now I’m doubting us drafting a corner unless a one drops in our lap that we can’t pass on. Altho it wouldn’t be a bad idea because of the age of Grimes and Verner.

  28. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

My fingers cross I still hope we draft Will Jackson.
