Now A Hole At OLB

Now that the Bucs failed to extend an offer to previously restricted free agent and strongside linebacker Danny Lansanah, it sure appears that the Bucs may be looking for a new linebacker (along with a defensive end).

Lansanah picked the worst time to have a slump. The University of Connecticut product, who turns 31 just before the season, had a damning game against the Bears late in the year when he put up a giant goose egg. It is hard for Joe to fathom that a starting linebacker facing a run-oriented team couldn’t even get an assist, but that’s exactly what Lansanah did.

Insult to injury, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, had more defensive stats in that game than Lansanah. And the Bears surely weren’t running at Lavonte David.

The middle linebacker starter in that game, Bruce Carter, was cut yesterday, largely because of his bloated salary. Carter, who was usurped by Kwon Alexander for the starting job at middle linebacker, played well when he did play.

Joe has to wonder if the Bucs might bring Carter back at a lower payscale and plug him in at strongside linebacker?

We can do better than Carter. Much better.

Carter was overpayed – so cheaper is better if they do bring him back. He has speed and experience and can play all 3 LB positions – so I would be glad to see the Bucs bring Carter back if its for $2M a year.

Jags look to be doing it right this free agent period.

The thing is, if they offer Carter a new (lower salary) would he even return? THE CONSPIRACY RUNS DEEP!!

I would like to see the Bucs go after Tahir Whitehead, OLB, Lions Age: 26. That would make our LB corps one of the youngest, fastest, and best in the league. Any thoughts?

i will reserve judgement until sometime after 1600 hours. In Lich we trust

    Tahir Whitehead?

  8. FishBuc Says:

Tahir Whitehead started down the win stretch for the Lions, one of the reasons for their improvement. Would like to see Robert Ayres from NY if we don’t go after Vernon, he had 9 sacks in 12 games even though he is getting older.

    Carter @ $2mil would be a steal……we need depth at LB….

Whitehead also played a little Mike when Tulloch went down too.

Not so worried about the SLB. It’s usually a two down position. You could also look at Laurinaitis and slide Qwon back to Mike on passing downs. Or simply re- sign Carter

Hell, if we only knew what M Smith is looking for.

Jags are a completely different situation than the Bucs. The coach and GM are entering their 4th season. They *have* to show they are moving in the right direction (and they are).

  12. ATrain Says:

The Jags will over pay all of their FA and have a crap year

  13. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Ayers wants 10 M a year..The Giants are working to keep him..we have the freaking money..damn it, get him!!

  14. biff barker Says:

It’s going to be boom or bust for the Jags with the coin they’re dropping.

  15. Dave Says:

I’m not worried about LB. They have two studs. They can sign a couple more and draft one in the later rounds.
I’m concerned that they didn’t get Mario or C Johnson at DE. It doesn’t appear to be their fault, it just sucks. They desperately need a vet DE presence to go with a rookie.

  16. Dave Says:

    Oh, and
    SIGN DOUG MARTIN ALREADY!!!!!
