Joel Glazer talks about counseling Jameis

Does Team Glazer counsel Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback?

Joe got a detailed answer to that question today.

Joe is at the NFL Owners Meetings and enjoyed a favorite tradition, a man-to-Joe chat with Team Glazer, specifically Buccaneers co-chairman Joel Glazer.

Since Jameis likely will wear pewter and red for at least the next 10 years, Joe wanted to know how Team Glazer is working to build a relationship with their franchise quarterback.

Are their dinners, barbecues, bonding afternoons of sipping Slivovitz and chatting? Glazer didn’t get that detailed, but he did emphasize that there is an open line of communication.

“We’re checking in with [Jameis], just to see how he’s doing as a person,” Glazer said. “You know, part of the thing with young players is not just on the field, but just getting integrated into a community. So much happens so quickly for these guys that people don’t quite realize that, you know, they’re people.

“They’re moving to new communities and getting settled in new jobs. Life is changing. You always want to help guide these players, the younger players especially, and give advice.

“The thing about Jameis is, you know, he listens. A lot of people will ask advice and they’re not listening. He listens. And you’ll see him months later and he’ll repeat what you said to him. And he did listen to some advice. That’s part of what makes him special. He’s looking for anything or anybody who can impart some wisdom on him.”

Joe thinks it’s damn cool that Team Glazer is taking a personal but gentle, almost fatherly, interest in Jameis. In fact, Glazer emphasized that ownership tries to at least meet and get to know all Buccaneers.

Joe dove deeper with Team Glazer on Jameis and his handling and development as the face of the franchise, and Joe will share in the coming days. You can also see more from Glazer on Jameis here.

Solid article. If the owners are really taking a hard look at their young players and helping off field “life stuff”, that’s a winning situation

Where’s the accusers of backstabbing and conspiring- Joel answered all questions and it was black and white.

His responses on Jameis tells me the change was all about future stability for their prized asset – Mr Winston.
