Dirk Koetter speaks

It’s interesting that head coach Dirk Koetter talked about the personal side of Doug Martin at his news conference today.

Koetter lauded Martin for being “a popular guy in the locker room” for his style of play, which Koetter described as all-out — all the time. He specifically referenced hitting the hole hard from spring practices to his final snap last season.

Yes, Martin is a popular guy. He dined every Thursday last week with the offensive linemen at their traditional weekly dinner — and Martin often picked up the tab.

Martin also balled hard on game day. Joe advises you to watch the film if you’re a doubter. Martin’s 2015 tape running the football is a virtual clinic, aside from a few fumbles. (No, Joe’s not talking about his pass catching or blocking, just the running.)

One big reason Koetter was retained after Lovie Smith was dumped is because he, too, is a very “popular guy in the locker room,” also for the passion and intensity he brought last year.

Koetter now has his first real player marriage as Bucs head coach. His bride is Doug Martin.

Go Dirk and Dougie. Happy to have him back. I think the price turned out a bit steeper that I expected but in retrospect it’s refreshing to have Dougie stay with the team that drafted him. I’m still sad that we have neglected to land any pass rushing help but we can’t forget that this is a very DE deep draft. I hope to land a few solid free agency acquisitions in the secondary and see what the draft brings. A little O Line help would be nice in free agency too.

I saw the whole thing..and what I gathered was that Doug didn’t want to test the market at all..

And glad someone bought up Roddy White!

    Come on guys..Get Roddy!!

  3. cmurda Says:

I vote yes on Roddy White. We will be drafting a DE. Hopefully we can pick up a DE in FA otherwise we will be drafting 2 DE’s and a CB or safety. This draft should be heavily weighted on the defensive side of the ball.

  4. TNOLES Says:

Man, what is up with the Giants??? They are spending like crazy, I didn’t realize they had so much cap space. I hope the Bucs sign some decent guys now that Dougie is good to go. Does anyone know much about this cat Ayers???

  5. Mike Johnson Says:

Roddy White is a washed up Atl has been. His best days are long behind him. He needs to be set free..to retirement.I’d give him the minimum plus..free lunches at the Bucs cafeteria for one year! Our Bucs need to figure out a way to rangle another 1st or 2nd rder from this years draft. Get innovative like the Dolphins did Bucs! Get our Sorry A.. Defense straight.

  6. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

Doug Martin is a MAJOR free agent signing! Keeping our own young talent is a proven formula in the NFL. Way to go!

“Popular guy in the locker room” is the mantra at OBP these days. Dougie, VJax, Jameis, Mankins etc. Lot’s of mutual admiration.

Hell even the missing link Kenny Bell has been writing scouting reports for the QB’s.

Which is the reason we passed on Mario.
