Jason Licht talks Doug Martin

As they say on Sesame Street, today’s word of the day is, “Optimistic.”

Bucs general manager Jason Licht used it before the media throng at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, where Joe is freezing but having fun. Licht was talking about re-signing Doug Martin.

Speaking to other NFL sources and one with knowledge of the talks, Joe is hearing the same thing over the past 24 hours about Martin returning for a fifth-season (and more) with Tampa Bay.

Great news, for sure. But Joe, of course, will believe it when the ink is on the contract.

The deadline to slap the franchise tag on Martin is Tuesday. The free agency dinner bell rings March 9. Of course, the Bucs can still tag Martin and continue negotiating with him for a long term deal.

    The next headline should read:

“Doug Martin signs another contract with the Bucs.. agreement reached….”

    Case closed…

I really hope that DM22 is not shooting for the moon in his contract!!! Especially Since the Head Coach stuck his neck out and said that he wanted DM22, when lovie was going to cut/trade him!!!!

    If he doesn’t sign..and gets a bit greedy…

Bonfire to burn number 22 gear at New Tampa backyard!! All welcome..lol…

Bag him, tag him. Lasso the Hamster.

I was at Busch Gardens yesterday and had to ask this guy that was talking about the Sesame Street area there, if he could tell me how to get to Sesame Street.

He and his family looked at me and laughed as if I was singing the song, but I honestly needed to know how to get there. Thought I’d share that lil funny with the mom’s and dad’s of JBF.

Relax……there is no way that the Bucs let Double Duece get away.

  6. Mike Johnson Says:

I am very guarded optimistic. I’ll believe it when I see it. This team changes coaches more than I wash my auto cleaning rags. Win some games Bucs. Win..lotsa games first. Then we will crown you. But for now? You’re wearing a crown of.. optimistic Thorns baby!

    @mike
guardedly optimistic beats pessimistic any day.first stop and 8
and 8. Then you let one or both of your guards down. Go Bucs

  8. pick6 Says:

he’ll be here. he is on the record as loving the city and is building a new home here…he’s got a coach that thinks the world of him and yet won’t run him into the ground…and he’s got a QB that looks like he can take a team places. the raiders could go all out for him with the cap space they have and the fact that he’s from that area, but earning $10 million in northern california is probably about the same as earning $7.5 million on Tampa

    @ pick6
I thought Schiano gave Doug too many carries his first year.lovie also had him carry a similar amount.I am not a big fan of the bell cow approach.i like the two headed monster approach.lesser amount of carries should help
extend his career.Marshon Lynch is a perfect example.
