Feel Good Story For Tandy

As fans await the free agent dinner bell to ring on March 9, no one really knows where Bucs free agent safety Keith Tandy will be.

Oh, the Bucs liked what Tandy did on special teams last year, and in spot start duty. And the Bucs are very much interested in bringing Tandy back.

Last weekend, when everyone (seemingly) was at a neighborhood Super Bowl party, or even at home, Tandy was not. Instead, per BlueGoldSports.com, Tandy went international to watch the Super Bowl with U.S. Troops stationed overseas.

“I wanted to boost their morale as much as possible, and what better way for me to do that than watching the most important game in my profession with them,” Tandy said.

He didn’t just watch the game with the troops. Tandy also played flag football with them before the game.

Joe suspects Tandy may have gotten this idea from Vincent Jackson and other Bucs who give so much time to folks locally in the Armed Forces. At any rate, what Tandy did was super cool, no matter who planted the seed.

It’s hard to put a price tag on the intangibles VJax brings.

Nice grsture by Tandy. I’m hoping he earns more playing time with the new Smith.

Tandy was one of the guys who Imo got caught up in the whole Lovie Smith favoritism thing…When given an opportunity I always thought Tandy played well..He’s one guy I hope we bring back…

  4. DB55 Says:

Imo he’s our best safety right now

    You said it ^^^

Tandy may not be a super star on the field, but that was a super star off the field gesture.

We need to keep Tandy. He has a knack for making big plays. With some solid coaching, he should be a regular starter.

  7. Bculaw Says:

Guy seems to always produce when he has been given opportunities. Bring him back and give him a legit shot at competing. He’s solid depth and ST if nothing else.

  8. Maccam Says:

This is the kind of guy that makes a teem go. Not the big name but you don’t win without em. Hopefully this season we’ll all see this guy in a lot of wins.

  9. James Walker Says:

He gets burned, but when it seems to happen it is an incredible throw and catch that could not be defended by anyone. And as far as I can tell he did not commit any penalties in 2015.

  10. John McKillop Says:

I saw the same thing a lot of people saw, when Tandy has had the opportunity to play he seemed to make a big play, whether it was an int., or forced fumble or fumble recovery. He not only did it under Lovie but Schiano as well. I see something in this kid, hope he gets a chance to compete for a starting spot with the new defensive staff.

Keith Tandy finally got the start in the final two games of the season. Against the Bears he had 10 tackles and the stinking Panthers he responded with 11 tackles and a sack. Safety is the position we need the most improvement, other than DE. You know we will bring Bradley McDougald back because he is a RFA so he will probably get the $1.6M tendor. He and Major Wright were our biggest liabilities in coverage. I was watching the Senor Bowl and guess what I noticed? A Safety defending the slant route. It was FS Darian Thompson Boise State (6’2″ 210). We need to draft him in the second round.

  12. DB55 Says:

Bring back Mark “The Punisher” Barron. NOW Got Darnit!!

  13. Bob in Valrico Says:

I thought keith tandy was one of the few players that showed up in the last game.He was blowing up running plays and seemed to be in the right place during the game. Can’t say that for Macdougald.

  14. Pickgrin Says:

Tandy played fairly well when given snaps and is a valuable special teams contributor. Needs to be re-signed and allowed to further develop under real secondary coaches. He may well turn into a serviceable starter and if not seems to be quality depth and a pretty good special teamer.

  15. Dave Says:

    Kudos to Tandy

  16. biff barker Says:

    Good posts.

Tandy. I’ve wanted the guy to get more playing time to see what’s there. Some guys can splash at practice and look the Marcus Jones part, some guys just make plays.

BTW, Tandy was a WV Mountaineer whom gave big the Big East and one Greg Schiano fits. Pretty sure he was a 5th.

  17. Mike Johnson Says:

My guess is with pressure on Koetter and company to produce, There will be fierce competition in our secondary. I like Tandy though. And he’s not going to cost us a lot..for now.

  18. biff barker Says:

To clarify, most certain Schiano was the one bending Dom’s ear to draft Tandy.

Think about this, many of your late rounders may not crack the starting position but can and will perform splendidly wherever and whenever to make a play.

We need this continuity, depth. Every single great team ever teams had depth.

  19. biff barker Says:

Mike J., Enormous, volcano, manphysics pressure… every year on for about 25 NFL HC’s.

Lovie? I wanted to knock down the rear view during the 2-16 season. In fact, my human football circle questioned aloud as to why Koetter would come here if he didn’t have a shot at a shot.

Brace yourself. We may see a much, much, better football team this year without killing the roster again.

  20. Getaclue Says:

He didnt get burned when he won that Dallas game, that would of been a td dez all day

  21. SeattleBuc Says:

Get a clue that was MacDougald who made that int to seal the Dallas game. Tandy has had some big time ints in previous seasons

  22. BucTrooper Says:

I’m tired of “feel good stories.” I want to hear some “play good”‘stories.
