Nope. And so far I haven’t seen one person at all make a convince case why he should return other than “The Glazers are bringing him back”. I know they are, they’re possibly the worst owners in the league, I wouldn’t expect good decision making. Nobody can actually on the merits of the job he’s done give a good pitch to bring Lovie back.

Sucks he’s coming back, but after today there’s nothing to talk about until next September, when he has us demanding he be fired within the first 6 weeks of next year when we’re still getting beat on slants.

  2. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    YES.

He made the draft picks the last 2 years, like EVERY OTHER COACH DOES. He committed to the offense first, and he did an excellent job there. Give him another year to fix the defense in the draft.

  3. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Put it this way…IF he did not make the draft picks (just to follow what people seem to imply) the last two years, then he was severely hampered in building the defense. In such a scenario, you cannot hold the lack of defense against him.

    He deserves another year.

  4. HIRE JIMBO Says:

Ur slow as fukc bonzai. LICHT DOES THE DRAFTING. Don’t give lovie credit for all of lichts picks. Lovie was sleeping during the offensive draft

  5. The Buc Realist Says:

Don’t worry about another humiliating loss on Primetime tv with lovie. I have infiltrated sheep headquarters were they are trying to form a response to another lovie debacle!!!!! The just of it goes “ This was a genius plan by lovie, He tanked the game so other teams will not interview Keotter for Head coach”!!!!!

    _______________________________________________________________

He did a Lovie job there actually: Apparently the “7th best offense in football”, only if include garbage yards and ignore it’s in the bottom 10 in scoring. Offense was overrated all year and the last 4 games proved it. Not that I don’t have hope for Jameis, but let’s stop acting like the offense was incredible this year.

  7. bee Says:

    No.

And I’m not sure what some people are not sure about. Smith is a horrible game day manager and an abysmal personnel man. Not to mention his defense is historically bad and he can’t get the most out of the players he picked! He’s painfully slow to adjust if he adjusts at all. He’s passive aggressive and it’s trickled down to the team. The team plays with no consistent energy. I know this team doesn’t have an abundance of talent but the coach should get more out of them. Philly fired a coach with a winning record in 2 years but the Bucs for some reason think 8 wins 2 years is progress. It’s crazy. I find it easy to believe that there is another coach on the planet that can do better.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Reluctantly yes….but only if he is forced to hire a strong DC.

I don’t trust the Glazers to make the right choice for his replacement…..I would rather gamble that Lovie can get it right by drafting defense and supplementing with FA.

I think the Glazers have an opening to force Lovie to make some changes….they have the hammer….you simply sit him down and tell him he will be retained under th following conditions……this happens all the time in business.

Lovie can either accept that or retire a loser.

  9. Clodhopper Says:

No because I’m not dumb enough to think ex bears and ex Marinelli players were ignored by Lovie and were taken by Licht and Offensive players were drafted by Lovie.

  10. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @HIRE JIMBO

Education is a wonderful thing. Try it.

    @bucrightoff

Tedford sold him a bill of goods and took a dump on the team. Lovie and Licht hired Koetter to replace him. Koetter was not here for the first draft, was he?

Licht gets credit for the hiring of him, certainly, although Lovie probably had some say in it. After all, they had to be compatible.

Think back all the way to before this season started. What did I say from the very beginning?

It would take time to develop the offense. Injuries would be a huge issue.

The offense will be fine. There were huge bright spots. Martin. Winston (one of only 3 rookies to throw for 4,000 yards in NFL history; better even than Peyton Manning). Evans 1,000+ yard season. The offensive line, with 4 of 5 guys young, developed faster than expected. They still have growing to do, but they did well for year one.

Am I satisfied with the defense? No. Not even close.

But I also understand it hasn’t been truly addressed except for washed out, injury prone free agents that Jason Licht tracked down and made deals with.

I also understand that outside of one player, the defense has not been addressed in the draft.

Lovie is a defensive coach, but you cannot squeeze blood from a turnip. He needs a defensive draft before he can fix the defense. That happens this year.

  11. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Anyone remember who Lovies first choice at DC was? You know, they guy Jerry Jones refused to let go of with a year left on his contract?

Leslie Frazier was not Lovie’s first choice. One he was here, it’s up to Licht to replace him and find a better replacement.

  12. BrianBucs Says:

Bucs will never rise above being a mediocre or average team under Lovie Smith. And they may not even reach that level no matter who their personel is

  13. Couch Fan Says:

Imcompetent excuses for an imcompetent coach. Nothing is Great Ole Nice Guy Lovie’s fault but the draft is all due to him. LMAO. Nice try Bonzai, you get an A for effort.

Lovie Smith is an awful coach and your pathetic excuses can’t change that. FIRE LOVIE TODAY!!!

  14. destro44 Says:

I actually want to see if he can fix the defense, so this off-season is critical. I truly feel this defense needs a massive overhaul, somewhere from 5 to 8 new starters. There is a problem with want to and talent out there and if it isn’t addressed we will be discussing coaching candadates all season. I would like to see a serious roster churn with only Kwon, LVD, and McDonald safe! Admittedly I’m not in the locker room so others may be good team guys, but these 3 are the only untouchables I see.

  15. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I will say this…I was wrong about Winston before the draft.

    I really like the guy.

  16. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Bonzai

Good, now say your wrong about lovie, and lets hire a new coach and start winning some games around here!!!!

Go Bucs!!! (without lovie of course)

  17. mark2001 Says:

LOL….as if him “keeping his hands off the Defense” would accomplish anything….please fellow Bucs fans…. that is really pretty ignorant. Promote Koetter before he goes HC elsewhere and we get left holding the bag of cow dung and a new O system, placing Winston back a year.

  18. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Get rid of Lovie, who cares if Frazier wasnt his first choice its lovies defense its lovie choice to have 3-4 DB coaches for a unit that is probably the worst in pro football for lovies crazier sophisticated defense that takes so long for pro players to play it, that is bullspit…lovie is not a good head coach period and it is time for him to hit the basement permanently, the tampa 2 is a dinosaur defense and i know lovie went away from the basics of the cover 2 and blitzed more and more, it was still similar results…the secondary is terrible the front 4 canmt get a rush and so on and so on…look at vikings, houston and falcons for first year coaches that somehow got it done

  19. Buc1987 Says:

Bonzai’s World : Lovie gets all the credit for the offense and anything negative that happens on the team is Licht’s fault.

Twisted thinking I know, but that’s what he’s been saying for over a month now.

That’s his built in excuse for Lovie. Although I’ve yet to see ANYONE and I mean ANYONE agree with this premise.

Clodhopper…yes Bonzai believes all the ex-bears and ex-Marinelli players that were brought in and sucked were Lichts doing and not Lovie’s. How he thinks this I have no idea. Then again he also mentioned the other day that Lovie will hire Gus Bradley to run the defense next year, even though most of us already know the Jags are keeping Bradley. smh

  20. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Buc1987

Sometimes Bonzai wonders why lovie is wasting his time with football, he could have solved peace in the middle east and fixed the Global Economy in the last 2 years!!!!

  21. Buc1987 Says:

mark2001…Koetter has been mentioned in the past as a HC candidate while he was with the Falcons. So after listening to a few of his pressers, he has my vote.

  22. BucTrooper Says:

I’m sorry… 32 games into his career and I just see ZERO improvement from the defense. There’s no “adjustment” to the personnel. Teams just pass at will and after 32 games, Lovie is either too dumb or too stubborn to even TRY anything different.

I have no idea who the Bucs are playing Week 1 in August, but I’ll go on record right now and say that I will bet REAL MONEY that the Defense looks EXACTLY like what was on the field Week 1 vs CAR in 2014 and Week 1 vs TEN in 2015. We’re 8+ months from Kickoff…. I don’t even care who the QB is. I’ll predict 70% completion percentage and a double-digit loss.

  23. Buc1987 Says:

Realist…Oh and Fraziers his goat, even though Lovie took over all the defensive playcalling pretty much at the start of the season.

I HATE starting over with a new coach every 2 years, but I think it’s the only way this team can get rid of all players LOVIE brought in.

DallasBuc has been right for the past 2 seasons. Jason Licht is Lovie’s lapdog.

  24. The Buc Realist Says:

    lovie smith
    2014 – 5 blowouts!!!

lovie gets more “hands on” with the defense
    2015 – 7 blowouts!!!!!

  25. Buc1987 Says:

Raheem the dream was a better coach than Lovie…bring him back and win atleast 2-3 more games than this loser, who can’t adapt on game days as he just stands there with that dazed look in his eyes. His kids (who work for him) must be proud.

  26. Trubucfan22 Says:

I havent answered yet. I go back and forth with it. On one hand Lovie hasnt had the chance to really build his defense (crappy free agents is not building a defense) you build anything through the draft. You only patch with free agents. So we dont have the talent level we need for a good defense.

But then on the other hand, do i really trust Lovie’s defensive philosophy and system? It has simply been horrible since he has taken over. I feel like Banks and verner should have been able to be a mid teir duo in the league. But they were both benched. And the replacements havent done enough to change things around. So i question if it isnt just talent level or if it’s just a bad scheme. An out dated defense no longer effective.

It really is the question that ownership and Licht need to figure out. If anyone in upper management questions Lovie’s defense then we should fire him. As a head coach Lovie isn’t a great motivator or anything. We have him here to run his defense. That’s it. So it is up to the owners to decide if they want to go forward with Lovie’s defense or if they don’t like it.

The only head coach hat is truly a head coach is bill bellicheat. He has a system tha is his offense and his defense. He doesnt lead either side and is teally just the head guy everyone goes to. A true overseer of his proven coaching philosophies. No other NFL coach does that. Every other HC is either offensive or defensive minded, and the only reason they have a HC job is for their O or D. Not because hey have a wide football knowledge and can do it all. Not the way belicheat does. In closing (lol) if Lovie’s defense isnt worth the wait, then why would we keep him? He isnt a mastermind HC, he doesnt know offense, and his defense has been crap lately.

  27. Elle Says:

I voted no knowing that he’ll stay anyway. I just hope the Glazers won’t do something stupid and decide to fire Lovie in a month or two, like they did in the past. Aim for next season has to be clinching a spot in the playoff. If that doesn’t happen, well…

  28. Trubucfan22 Says:

The second option is a joke. “Yes, but only if he quits managing the defense”. If a head coach isn’t a defensive or offensive mastermind, he better be a great inspirational leader. That can focus and excel at getting 100% out of his players every week. It is blatantly obvious Lovie cannot do that. So there is no point to even have that type of answer on this poll.

  29. Buccfan37 Says:

    Just no, period.

  30. Buc1987 Says:

48% of JBFers want him gone and 60% of Buc Nation want him gone. That tells me fans want him gone. The Glazers told us that the fans wanted Gruden gone after going 9-7.

What’s the hold up soccer brats it’s past noon already?

  31. Espo Says:

    Yes

Drafting only 1 defensive player the past 2 years would hurt any team. Compound that with years of bad drafting (sans LVD, Dougie, and maybe Banks) and settling on other teams’ discards and you’ve got a 6-10 team. I expect a heavily defensive draft. Let’s see what he can do while actually building a team.

  32. 813bucboi Says:

yes…I voted yes because of the marked improvement from 2wins to 6wins even though we still had 2win talent on the defense…next year lovie will be heavily evaluated…I cant believe people actually think licht sits in a room with everyone except lovie and makes the draft picks while lovie sits in a room with everyone except for licht and picks the FA….you have to give credit to both of them for the draft picks unless licht or lovie comes out and says,” I make all the draft picks and he makes all the FA picks”…honestly, as long as lovie continues to progress, he will be retained as HC….GO BUCS!!!

  33. MadMax Says:

Absolutely NOT!!! NO!! Koetter can keep consistency with Winston, but thats if a new coach coming in doesnt try to replace him.

  34. Fire Goodell Says:

Mike Zimmer, Bill O’Brien & Jay Gruden were hired the same year as Lovie, and they’re all going to the playoffs in their second year. The latter two inherited messy quarterback situations too.

  35. The Dom Must Go Says:

What was so excellent about the all offensive draft? We got a receiver at #7 that can’t catch or run decent routes. Evans is probay the 4th or 5th best receiver out of that draft class right now and he was our 1st round pick! TE 2nd pick has done nothing to justify that pick. Simms 3rd round also a waste … Not a posistion of need and #2 back on the roster . Waste!

  36. HIRE JIMBO Says:
