Todd Monken And Jameis

New Bucs OC Todd Monken talks America’s Quarterback.

New Tampa Bay offensive coordinator Todd Monken was adamant that the chance to be an OC with the Bucs was an opportunity he could not pass up.

Even though he totally turned around a dormant program, had a quality resumé as a college offensive coordinator, and seemed to be on the cusp of landing a power-five conference gig in the very near future, Monken noted he took the Bucs job for one main reason, and that is his long relationship with Dirk Koetter.

Oh, yeah. Monken noted the chance to coach a team with what he described as loaded with young talent was a lure, as well. When asked if America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, was part of that group, Monken openly chuckled.

Joe tried to ask Monken more about Jameis and if he recruited him. No, Monken said, he did not but he wished he did. At the time, Monken was the offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State.

“We had Brandon Weeden then, but we sure could have used [Jameis] after him,” Monken said.

Monken added that he coached with Jimbo Fisher for two years at LSU and the two remain tight. So Monken added he has good intel on Jameis, aside from what he knows about Jameis from Koetter.

“I’m so excited to be here, I can’t see straight.”

Classic line: “I’m so excited to be here, I can’t see straight.”

Now THAT’S the kind of enthusiasm the Bucs need from our coaches and players. Well, except for our QBs … It’s probably best if they see straight.

I’d still like to know what this OC will do if we’re keeping Koetter’s offense and Koetter will call the plays. Perhaps Leslie Frazier could shed some light on that?

I love it when every one of the coaches seems fired up. Reminds me of the Chucky days, and that turned out alright. Go Bucs, late July cant get her fast enough!!

Did you notice he pronounced Jameis’ name wrong?? Three syllables, JAME-EE-US. Oh well, he’s forgiven, I’m sure he’ll learn about all things JAME-ISS in short order.

    Just like Chris Russo.

This offense will be good. maybe great. It we get the defense to be good too. Maybe we will be in the playoffs next year. I truly believe we are building something now, unlike the last couple of years. Or 10.

It’s not s secret people. It’s in name only. He’ll have input and help game plan.

Pretty much agree Dave with one addition. I’m pretty sure that OC”s in the NFL get paid more than WR coaches. Koetter and Licht are probably using the title to get enough $$$ to lure Monken to Tampa.

D/74 why can’t people give LOVIE his due in the building of this team, if you wanna say he was stubborn, no good in front of the press, that he hired his sons, I got all that but he did bring talent to this team, and he was what this team needed after that toes on the line high-school coach! SMILLING IN YOUR FACE!
