Dirk Koetter discusses the leadership qualities of America’s Quarterback.

Yesterday, new Bucs coach Dirk Koetter was making his media rounds talking to all known NFL outlets — local and national.

One of his last stops was on the best football radio show known to man, that would be “Movin’ the Chains,” co-hosted by Pat Kirwan and former Steelers and Bears quarterback and current Michigan State radio color man Jim Miller, heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

There, Koetter answered a few questions he elaborated on earlier in the day with the local Tampa Bay pen and mic club. But one especially interesting question fielded was his last on the radio.

In short, Miller wanted to know what makes America’s Quarterback tick.

Jim Miller: What was the biggest trait or something you didn’t know existed in Jameis Winston and why do you feel he is going to be a great quarterback in the National Football League?

Dirk Koetter: Great question. And the answer to that is that I watched a ton of film as we were getting ready for the draft on Jameis and on Marcus [Mariota]. I was told – you are told a lot of different things by a lot of different people – one thing on Jameis that didn’t come out and you see it in the games, and you see it first-hand, and you see it on the sidelines, and you see it after he has been sacked, and you see it after he has made a run. It his is heart and his competitive spirit.

Those two things on Jameis, I mean, I would go home and tell my wife sometimes, ‘Wow. This guy is unbelievable how much this guy wants to win and what he is willing to do.’

That’s why the players respect him and that’s why the players follow him. Jameis isn’t just a good leader in the locker room or in the meeting room. He carries it onto the field.

Yes, Koetter talked about Jameis’ heart earlier in the day, but it was interesting how Koetter explained how driven Jameis is to win, and how losing just eats away at him.

That’s what directly led to Jameis’ passionate postgame rant after the loss to Carolina, in which he said coaches want to win more than some players.

Joe has a feeling that’s going to change in the coming months.

I knew #3 had the rest of the team when I watched him throwing blocks…no he’s not the first nor will he be the last but not that many QB’s truly try to execute a block…they may get in the way if they can but #3 was actually throwing a block.

No matter what anybody might say about #3’s deficiencies nobody can deny his heart and courage and his willingness to go all in with his body, whatever it takes to score! That has to have an impact on ALL of the team.

I just got chills reading that. So pumped to keep Jameis in a system he is getting comfortable in. Couple that with Jameis sheer desire and it’s go the making of a successful team for several years. I really like Dirk’s style. When he didn’t call the best game last year, he flat out admitted it and took full responsibility. I have a good feeling this franchise is going to get that accountability back and with it will come that swagger.

    Lead by example.

I knew this would happen. Having my second baby and need to make some smart financial decisions, which means getting rid of my season tickets. Of course when I do that we will start winning. Ha
