Report: Koetter Buys Bucs Vanity Plates

January 14th, 2016

Man, Bucs fans are at the edge of their office chairs this morning itching for clues leading to their next head coach.

In fact, fans are so antsy, Joe was told lap dance sales were down last night across the Bay area because men are struggling to sit still.

One nugget floating around in picture form, courtesy of ABC-TV sportscaster Tom Korun, is Dirk Koetter being spotted yesterday at a local tax collector’s office purchasing official Buccaneers vanity plates, escorted by Bucs directory of team security Andres Trescastro.

Joe was told by another source that Koetter scored plates for multiple cars and paid for the two-year renewal.

Koetter’s birthday is in early February, so it makes sense that he’d be knocking out new plates a few weeks prior to that.

But why is Koetter buying Bucs plates and renewing for two years? What does he know?

    Hallelujah!!!

  2. Ben the Ga Buc Says:

Souvenirs to hang on the garage when he joins the 49ers?

  3. BUCSJUNKIE Says:

Boy are Bucs fans grasping at any news. It would be funny if this is how the story breaks that Koetter is the new HC!

  4. Clodhopper Says:

His bday is in February. In my state he would have until end of March to renew. What is Florida’s law? If I was planning on leaving the state, I wouldn’t renew multiple vehicles for 2 years. It ain’t like he drives a pinto and plates are only 35 bucks. #TeaLeaves

  5. jb Says:

Until someone’s been through his garbage on the side of his street, I’ll not believe anything. That’s where the real high quality info is.

  6. Joe Says:

    What is Florida’s law?

End of the month of your birthday.

The really weird thing is, if you click on the link in Joe’s story, the guy in the Bucs shirt is the head of Bucs security. Joe knows of players who show up without security to get their tags. Why would the Bucs shadow Koetter at the tax collector’s office???

    That’s just weird.

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

So….it’s a done deal…….a millionaire wouldn’t spend a couple of hundred bucks on Bucs plates unless he knew he was staying…..may simply be optimism.

  8. Buc Neckid Says:

  9. Raymond Jameis Stadium Says:

Andres is the man! One of the nicest guys in the organization.

  10. nate_tweetz Says:

I hope Koetter is the next head coach. The other names out there are not getting me excited at all.

  11. @Hands2theface Says:

Coaches/Players that no longer work for the BUCS never ever keep a home in Tampa. Even if they coach/play elsewhere….(Dungy, Warrick, Lynch, Sapp, Gruden, Schiano, …on and on)

  12. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

It really would be hilarious if the story broke this way.

  13. Joe Says:

Coaches/Players that no longer work for the BUCS never ever keep a home in Tampa. Even if they coach/play elsewhere….(Dungy, Warrick, Lynch, Sapp, Gruden, Schiano, …on and on)

Not sure where you are getting your information.

Chucky owns both a home in Tampa and a condo near the beach in Pinellas County as does Monte Kiffin. Dungy never moved; his permanent address was Tampa even when he coached the Colts.

Unless Schiano sold his house in less than a month, he still has a four-year old house on the water in south Tampa.

If Schiano didn’t give his house away and sold that parcel this quick, Joe wants to know who his real estate agent is. He/she can make Joe some money.

  14. Clodhopper Says:

TBBF. It depends on what the cars are and how many. Could easily be a thousand bucks if he has just a few newer SUV’s. My wife’s 2013 plain jane equinox is $200. I’m sure he drives more expensive vehicles. But again, I don’t know Florida’s tax rates either

  15. Clintro Says:

I believe you have to have your renewal before your birthday for a person. for a corporation it is the last day of the month.

I thought the last day of the month too, but then a friend got a ticket and the cop told him it was his birthday.

  16. @Hands2theface Says:

Joe: sorry if it wasn’t clear, but I was TOTALLY being sarcastic! I rattled off the list of coaches/players that came to mind that have Florida residence

  17. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

It was staged. Bucs don’t want to officially release anything, so they drop a huge hint for the fans.

  18. @Hands2theface Says:

My point was, just because Dirk was updating his tags for Florida doesn’t mean squat regarding his position with the BUCS. Even if he moves on, I will more than likely keep residence and will need transportation when he’s here. Besides, his daughter I believe, attends University of Tampa and he more than likely needed to get the tags for her vehicle as well (if it’s registered in his name)

  19. BucsBlud Says:

BTW, my first time posting here. Awesome site. Didn’t mean type all caps.

  20. voice of reason Says:

surprising that a man like this runs his own errands

  21. BucsBlud Says:

Hands2theface, Koetter is a western guy, so if he was packing up, I highly doubt he would keep a house in Tampa. I do agree with you though that a lot of people stay in Tampa after their Careers with the Bucs. I think he’s the guy though. It’s pretty inevitable.

  22. Clodhopper Says:

    Hands2theface,

You very well could be right. Most likely are. But what else we got to talk about than which way the tea leaves point for our new Head Coach?

  23. @Hands2theface Says:

VOR: not really, he’s a human just like you and I. Winston shops for his own groceries after a big on Sunday. – https://twitter.com/AnwarRichardson/status/676186648858591232

  24. @Hands2theface Says:

Clodhopper: Oh, I agree…not much to do but speculate.

  25. Trubucfan22 Says:

9ers must not have much interest in him. Hopefully that means he remains in Tampa, as the Bucs OC. Our next HC could use him on his staff.

  26. MadMax Says:

Well it looks to me like its Koetter! And Im glad! Now who will he pick as DC? Good gosh please get us a great DC Light and Koetter.

  27. @Hands2theface Says:

MadMax: If it’s Dirk, what about a dude like Winston Moss as DC?

  28. Joe Says:

Joe: sorry if it wasn’t clear, but I was TOTALLY being sarcastic! I rattled off the list of coaches/players that came to mind that have Florida residence.

LOL sometimes a sarcasm tag is needed. Joe gets burned, too! 🙂

  29. DallasBuc Says:

Means nothing. His family may have already decided they aren’t moving. I’ll be patient and wait to see what happens. At this point we are already better off without incompetent Lovie Smith wasting everyone’s time.

  30. J Says:

If his birthday is Feb he must register by the end of January. And with hip surgery he probably wanted it done now. Not a lot of news here.

  31. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Here’s a thought for everybody. We approach and debate this as if there is only ONE or at minimum a BEST candidate for this position.

There may literally be dozens of coaches who could do this job very well. We only need to find one of them.

It’s quite possible that we hire a great guy for the job who will get us to the SB and there may have still been a better coach out there.

IE…Don’t waste time on dream candidates or miracle workers…just get the guy who can get the job done for us. I trust Licht and I suspect he may have several candidates who could ALL get the job done.

  32. StPeteBucsFan Says:

BTW…I try to be a positive person so I said there may be dozens of coaches who could do the job…sadly we know from experience there are hundreds of coaches who can’t and some of them have awesome resumes.

Just get one of the guys who can succeed.

  33. Clodhopper Says:

LOL three different answers for the “when is the deadline to renew tags” question. Maybe I should ask Dolman

  34. J Says:

Maybe he knew he wouldn’t be in town around his birthday and wanted to be able to drive around when in FL. I’m assuming he has a house here.

  35. MadMax Says:

@Hands, YES! Im not gonna lie, I dont know much about assistant coaches, but thats how everyone starts. I briefly looked him over and like what I see. As long as the Titans dont get him first. Thats what I want to see….younger, former players, determination, and some kind of proven background. We need that so bad!

  36. J Says:

Clod. It is on your birthday. Or beforehand. Was mistaken earlier.

  37. Joehelldeloxley Says:

Perhaps he is staying as Oc for the next two years …

  38. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Clodhopper

I just renewed my Florida plates. My wife and I own a 2015 Buick Enclave…not cheap and a seven year old Volvo convertible..not cheap when we bought it.

Neither are “luxury” cars per se but they are at the high end of middle class.

Joe was correct but perhaps this confused you. The cars are registered in my wife’s name and so it’s her birthday that counts. 11/17.

When we got our notice it said our registration expired on her birthday 11/17.
But the little sticker you get for your plate is always the end of the month. And so in reality you have until the end of the month of your birthday to renew your registration.

As far as costs..it’s more of an annual…bi annual maintainence kind of FEE not tied that closely to the car.

I say this because the Buick…brand new worth a lot more than our Volvo was only marginally more expensive than the Volvo. And neither was particularly significant…nothing like the thousands or even hundreds.

Bottom line…expense is not really the issue with plates…it’s the hassle of going to the DMV to get it done that would be the factor for Koetter. He was probably changing plates from another state otherwise he could have like me simply done all of this online.

  39. Johnny "America's Commenter" Dejay Says:

I haven’t gone to the license tag office since they started accepting payments over the internet, at least 10 years ago.

[sarcasm] You’d think someone in his camp would know how to use the internet, even though he doesn’t personally believe in data analytics. [/sarcasm]

  40. ColoradoBuc Says:

This misinformation planted by the new “surprise” coach who will be announced shortly!

  41. Buc1987 Says:

Well…we DO have NFL folks that DO have connections and their ears to the ground making speculations that it’s Koetter and that’s been happening since they fired Lovie.

You guys can dismiss the tags, but I’m not.

I like taking these breaks from JBF these days. Why? Because when I read all of your posts it’s always the SOS about who you want or who you think it’s going to be. It’s been a never ending merry go round. I understand there’s not much to talk about, but the possible new HC. but it’s been coming TOO redundant. Same posters saying the same things over and over.

I already convinced myself that it is Koetter the day they fired Lovie. Now I’m just waiting for some of you guys to catch up or they make the inevitable announcement. Possibly today.

Dismiss it all you want as meaningless. I’m not doing that. It’s a credible story that holds water. If my family is going to move somewhere and I had to get the tags renewed, I doubt I’m going to buy vanity Bucs tags for my Florida vehicles. Perhaps you would even though you have no need for the tags if you’re going somewhere else in America.

Koetter will either be the new HC or they’re definitely keeping him on as OC.

That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it.

  42. Buc1987 Says:

Oh yeah and it IS your birthday. Cop told me so when I got pulled over.

  43. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Johnny

In fairness to Koetter if he was changing from Georgia to Florida plates he might have required showing up in person. I haven’t done that in decades! Since the good ole days of “impact fees”.

If he already had Florida plates I suspect llke you and me he would have done it online. Just guessing I don’t really know.

  44. Espo Says:

    @St Pete

The sticker only shows the month, but the registration will have an actual day. If a cop pulls you over or runs your plate , he or she will see the actual due date. It’s usually used for probable cause in areas known for drugs, (just my opinion, I’m sure many would argue that) or by FHP, who would write their mothers tickets if given the opportunity.

  45. Buc1987 Says:

Espo….so true in my experiences with the FHP they are complete d!cks. It’s almost like it’s a prerequisite to get the job.

  46. Clodhopper Says:

    St. Pete,

Not even in the hundreds? Then top it off with no state income tax. Jeeze, it’s like you guys live in a tax haven compared to the most of the country. Not including the cost of living, Imagine the costs going up moving to NYC in just taxes alone!!

  47. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

My prediction is this…no matter who gets the HC gig…Realist will want them fired before the end of the year.

  48. Buc1987 Says:

Clodhopper…TAXES are the #1 reason why my parents moved down to Florida in the mid-80’s. They need high taxes up there to pay for all their cockamamie social programs and benefits they dole out like candy to every Tom, D!ck and Jane they can find. Oh and don’t get me started on the regulations.

Not the place to talk about it, so I’ll just leave it at that.

  49. Buc1987 Says:

    Bonzai…possibly before pre-season.

He has been an optimistic coot these days though. It’s kind of refreshing, as if he’s been cleansed.

  50. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Any DC sightings in the area? Like Jim Schwartz at the airport?

  51. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    87

Leave the politics alone you’re not smart enough to go there!

Tell us what about the average earnings of New Yorkers…78,000 are compared to Floridians…41,000.

Think they might be able to afford some higher taxes out of that additional 37,000? How about their educational system compared to ours.

Just leave the politics out of it 87.

  52. Buccfan37 Says:

You can save 75 cents by going to the DMV to renew your registration instead of mailing it it for renewal. Every penny counts, right Dirk?

  53. Buc1987 Says:

SPBF…yes they make more money up there, but have you ever bought anything in that state? It’s 4 times the cost of Florida. So NO they can’t afford the HIGHER taxes and politics have nothing to do with it.

Also if I wanted to go there believe me I would of and could have, having lived in Mass 1/2 of my life. Why exactly does it cots 6 dollars a dozen for eggs up there and only 3 down here? Taxes, taxes, taxes and regulations. It’s probably the number one reason that MOST of the transplants move down here in the first place. They don’t like 30% of their income going to the state and then another 10 going to the feds so they end up paying 40% of their wages to the government.

Yes I went there, but it could have been much worse. I’m just stating a fact. Blame Clodhopper not me. Since we’re on politics, and I’m not a big Trump fan, but I think you’re going to blow a headgasket on election night when he wins. I know several dems that have already gotten on the Trump bandwagon. I don’t see why or how or what the appeal is, but I do think he’s going to win the whole damn thing.

  54. Buc1987 Says:

BTW..Joe FULLY went there the other day in one of his articles. So I don’t see WHY it’s out of bounds when the owner of the actual site does the same.

  55. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Possible Realist chants….

    “Ditch Dirk”…..”Dump Dirk”

I’m hoping for reverse psychology here…..maybe he will support him if we expect him not to.

  56. Clodhopper Says:

    It’s ok to blame me.

    DAMN TAXES!!

    LOL

  57. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

I come here because I DON’T have to read about politics. Joe may have mentioned something in passing. But, please no more in the comments. Both sides suck. Both sides are essentially one side, and people are being duped by the long con.

Please no more. It’s everywhere you turn. Can’t we just have ONE place where I don’t see the same regurgitation ad nauseam?

  58. tickrdr Says:

Update on Tribune story @1:20pm states that Dirk Koetter did renew his license tags, but did NOT purchase Buc’s vanity plates.

The word DESERVE comes from two Latin roots:
DE = “down from” or “out of”
    SERVO = “to serve”
In other words, “from or out of service.
Just why does the government DESERVE 40-50% of my income?
Yes, for the legitimate functions of government = gladly!
For much of the rest??? = not so much.

  59. tickrdr Says:

Sorry, L&WD, I type too slowly, and didn’t read your request.

  60. Buccfan37 Says:

Politics, what’s that? Reality ignored. Like sports is not controlled by politics.
