Learned of Lovie’s firing from his kids.

Some people are still freaked out that Team Glazer did not fly in from their various outposts to fire Lovie Smith in person, despite the fact Lovie didn’t want to meet with them.

So, at least to Joe, it seems interesting that the future coach of the Bucs, who was already on staff, learned of Lovie’s firing through his children, thanks to the power of social media.

Koetter, who had hip surgery Tuesday of last week, got out of the hospital Wednesday morning and did not go into his office at One Buc Palace.

Wednesday night, when Lovie was fired, it was shortly after 10 p.m., and Koetter and his family were relaxing in their living room watching the news, while Koetter’s children were busy on their phones, Twittering.

“I was shocked. Oh sure, absolutely, trust me,” Koetter said. “When we lose a game, I always feel we all lose. I said it the day Mike Smith was let go in Atlanta I said It the day I heard Jack Del Rio was let go in Jacksonville, the day I heard that Lovie was not being retained here, the first thing that goes through your mind is, ‘How could I have helped? How could I have been better?”

“If any [assistant] is not saying that, they are not the right kind of guys. They are not the kind of guys you want around you.

“[Koetter and his family] were shocked and disappointed by that news. But that is the NFL. We were sitting in front of the couch, my wife and kids were there. I am not a Twitter man. But all of a sudden my kids’ phones started blowing up. Of course our TV was on and we watched the news from there.”

So that is how the new coach of the Bucs found out the old coach was jettisoned.

Still a bit surprising to Joe.

[Unless Koetter said this on a radio show [that Joe didn’t hear], there is no such announcement yet. Joe is in the Bucs media room as he types this. Koetter just told us how much he likes Cullen. — Joe.]

    Thanks Jolly.

Not saying it won’t happen, just that don’t want to have coaches run that are staying. If they stay. Time will tell.
