No Jameis For You

November 5th, 2015

It’s become increasingly evident that the Bucs don’t want America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, to become America’s Quarterback this year.

What else would explain why one of the most engaging sports personalities of this century is npt doing national interviews or even local sit-downs on the Buccaneers Radio Network?

Since the regular season kicked off, Jameis is talking when he has to, per NFL media rules. That’s after games and once a week at a news conference. But that’s pretty much been it.

And you just know the media has been clamoring for him.

So why are the Bucs keeping Jameis swaddled in a blanky?

Joe has no answer to that question. One can assume the Bucs want Jameis supremely focused as a rookie and not pulled in different directions.

Joe’s all good with that. And hats off to Team Glazer for not trying to cash in on promoting Jameis all over the place, which could easily be done.

What intrigues Joe is pondering how long the current Jameis media plan might last? If the Bucs beat the Giants on Sunday, New York’s team, and move to 4-4, then surely the calls for Jameis to the spotlight will intensify immediately.

Any true Bucs fan knows that when the Bucs are comfortably flying under the national media radar, is when they have historically had their most success. Who the hell wants some national media talking head’s attention that will just turn on you with your first game lost. Those same national media talking heads that helped to create the national Jameis stigma of opinion to begin with?? SCREW THEM. Jameis will be Jameis no matter who’s paying attention.

  2. ARGH_M8E Says:

    U want jameis?!?!? TWO DOLLARS!!!!!!!

  3. bryan Says:

It is due to the fact the he is far from being polished. His reference to Lil Boosie during the post game presser for example. Priority 1 is to become a great QB. Priority 2 is to make him palatable.

  4. Howard Cosell Says:

As everyone knows I’m highly critical of Team Glazer, but I agree completely with them on this issue. Keep The Messiah away from the fickle media.
1.) He has more important things to do like work on mechanics and reading defenses.
2.) The national media is snake and they will bite you the 1st chance they get. Hell, they’ll even set you up.
3.) Look at Led Zeppelin: Avoiding interviews builds a sense of mystery and creates even more buzz.

Think big. Think smart. Go Bucs.

  5. Brent Says:

Bucs are 3-4 who cares. I’d rather lay low with a rookie. When were a legit winning team then jw can be a publicity hound. Right now we look like a 6-7 win team.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

How do we know that part of this might be Jameis’ choice…..after all, he has only very gradually become more vocal with the team. Perhaps he is deliberately holding back a bit…..being a team player….rather than a me player.

    And then again…..perhaps not.

  7. BucFan20 Says:

And of course this would be a major thorn to Joe. Most of the rest could not care less. Your the only one trying to make him “Americas Quarterback”. He is the BUCCANEERS Quarterback. You can keep writing it all you want and it will not change. America will never see him that way like some see him and worship him here.

  8. Supersam Says:

He’s playing better, but still missing a lot of throws and I counted atleast 2 picks Atlanta dropped right in there hands. So let’s not get carried away. Is Winston playing better? Yes. But he’s a long long way from being a great quarterback.

  9. D-Rome Says:

I love how the entire Buccaneers organization is handling Jameis’s media availability. The last thing this organization needs is to become a freak show like Johnny Manziel has been in Cleveland. The only story that should matter to anyone outside of Tampa Bay is what he does on the field and up to this point his growth and development has been a good story.

  10. JAB83 Says:

ARGH…… LOL……. “I want my two dollars!!!” Thanks for the memory!!! 🙂

  11. JAB83 Says:

    JOE, make it,

The Pride of Tampa Americas QB

  12. Q Says:

Winston will be Winston when he’s ready…#JABOOWINS

  13. JAB83 Says:

And kudos to Lovie for handling JW LIKE A BOSS…. You can’t deny Lovie and JW are good cop bad cop…. Also Kudos Lovie for putting people in place to really help JW through the growing processes…

  14. Buc Neckid Says:

They want Jameis focused on Football and Football only.
The situation that he is dealing with outside of Football is serious and does not need to be trivialized by some Media Schmuck trying to make it a Circus on NFL Air time.

  15. Newbucsfan Says:

If you watch jameis’ expressions//body language with press, especially early on, he appeared very wary and almost contemptuous with the press, subtle but there I think. And really can you blame him? I think he wants to prove himself through his play and actions before he takes the press on full on. He probably needs a reprieve from the constant attention and scrutiny. I think those around him might feel the same, and are shielding him a bit. Good call, if that is the case!

  16. Newbucsfan Says:

Not WITH the press but contemptuous OF the press. (Sorry)

  17. Newbucsfan Says:

Hey, but I’m still looking forward to the day when I see him in a commercial, (Can’t help myself:) then I’ll know he has finally come full circle and has finally arrived.
    Wait for it!:)

  18. Tom Edrington Says:

@Newbucsfan: Jameis is already doing commercials for Bill Currie Ford

  19. Newbucsfan Says:

Lol!! Sorry I missed those:( I live in Thomasville, ga.
Sounds like the football player from jerry McGuire:) with his crappy as@ commercial deals.
I was thinking more in the lines of Nike or heisman house:)!
    Hey. but it’s a start:)

  20. Newbucsfan Says:

    But I would imagine he’s a hoot!

  21. Joe Says:

And you can keep denying all you want Jameis moves the meter like few do. Joe has traffic analytics, radio stations and major sports networks have ear/eyeball ratings as evidence otherwise.

But, do continue to howl at the moon.

  22. Buccfan37 Says:

They don’t want to side with Winston until he meets their approval. Beating the Giants would bring a wakeup call.

  23. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

And you can keep denying all you want Jameis moves the meter like few do. Joe has traffic analytics, radio stations and major sports networks have ear/eyeball ratings as evidence otherwise.

Joe, remember when you were doing weekly spots on Raleigh, NC radio stations last year to talk about Mike Glennon?

  24. Newbucsfan Says:

    Mike who?

  25. Howard Cosell Says:

Maybe give it a little time and Jameis will start doing more interviews.
I would say at least a year or so before that happens.

    ..

    ..

    NO JAMEIS FOR YOU!
    COME BACK ONE YEAR!

  26. Buc1987 Says:

BucFan20….it really has ZERO to do with worship. Not sure why you still don’t understand WHY Joe calls him that when he’s stated numerous times as to why he calls him that.

I mean you do come here more than once a week. Joe’s given the same explanation over and over again. Most of us have gotten it by now. It has NOTHING to do with his talent or his achievements on the field and EVERYTHING to do with national press that his name garners.

That’s like pretty much the 86th time I’ve also explained to posters that have some kind of problem with the name. I’m even at the point where I don’t even believe Joe does it to rile up certain fans, like some believe.

  27. bobby4919 Says:

No ‘Snow Day’ for Jameis. But then again, what would a kid who’s played all his football in Alabama and Florida know about ‘Snow Days’. Does he even have any marketing deals yet or are the companies keeping him at an arms distance.

  28. Buc1987 Says:

Once again go to google punch in 2 letters. J and a. The very first name the comes up for you to click is Jameis Winston. Pretty sure Google is world wide.

Clear that out of the search and punch in 2 more letters D and O. Will the name Donald Trump come up first? Hell you would think so right? Nope Domino’s comes up before Trump.

This is yet another reason WHY Joe calls him “America’s QB”.

  29. Crabdogg Says:

1987, pretty sure google knows IP addresses and the suggested searches are based on what it knows about you…probably more than any of us know about ourselves. I typed in J and aa and the first thing that came up was Jack in the box, sort of embarrassing but true, Bucs QB wasn’t on the list…

Joe is right he moves the needle, but it is still very local. That is Buccaneer based not Jamies based, if he was in any “large” market he’d be moving it significantly more. Sticking to my call that he hasn’t earned a nickname yet, of any kind, but he is damn close. Plus I think we can do better than America’s QB anyway

  30. BucFan20 Says:

And You Joe may continue to howl America’s Quarterback all you want. He will only be the BUCCANEERS Quarterback (for now we hope) and he is not on the level of Brady or Manning. Just because people talk about a Quarterback like MM does that make him America’s Quarterback?

And 87 I did not say Joe worships him. Jameis Christ, The Savior, etc… Figure it out for yourself. And Joe is not fooling anybody. This began way before the draft and you know it.

  31. Crabdogg Says:

For the record, Its the nickname we can do better than…not the player

  32. Buc1987 Says:

Crabdogg…lol and I’m pretty sure I hate Domino’s pizza too.

  33. Buccos Says:

If Joe had his way Johnny Manziel would be the Bucs QB right now! Even a blind dog catches a rabbit once in a while.sent

  34. Tom Says:

Peter King might’ve gotten access. Says he has something on jameis coming out in the morning

  35. Cat Says:

    @Bobby
Jameis has deals with Noke and Beats as far as I know.

  36. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I have to admit that I was wrong. I’ve always been a Jameis guy, but I thought he would make us the most hated team in the NFL. So far I haven’t seen it. Maybe when we’re 7-0 in a few years it will happen!
