“Making, You Know, Chicken Salad Out Of Nothing”

A shot is taken at the 2012 Bucs offensive line that set the table for Doug Martin’s Pro Bowl rookie year.

There is one man on the Buccaneers not named Doug Martin that can consider himself an expert on Doug Martin.

That man is Demar Dotson, a starting right tackle in 2012, when Martin ran wild on the NFL in his rookie season.

The longest tenured Buccaneer and a former rockstar general manager Mark Dominik pickup in 2009, Dotson is now riding the bench behind Gosder Cherilus.

Speaking about Martin’s impressive success this season on the Buccaneers Radio Network, Dotson said Martin has flashed back to his rookie form, when he overcame his offensive line. But this year, per Dotson, the O-line and its coaching has been masterful.

“Doug was just making, you know, chicken salad out of nothing [in 2012]. We was not always doing the best job blocking for him,” Dotson said.

“Now you get that same hungry Doug that’s back. He’s running at all costs. And the guys up front are doing a great job. I mean all across the board. And the offensive coordinator and George Warhop, our offensive line coach. They are doing a phenomenal job putting these guys in position to be successful. You can’t say enough about the offensive line. You definitely can’t say enough about Doug.”

Dotson is known for calling things straight. So it’s notable that he thinks this year’s O-line is significantly better than the 2012 group, the one that blocked for the NFL’s ninth-ranked offense. It’s also great to see how supportive Doston is, despite his role at the bottom of the bench.

Realist, where are you…..Joe’s made several attempts to revive the “Pop” star…..are you going to just sit back and let him make Dominick a Buc legend?

I feel for Dotson. How many starting RT lose there job due to injury? He has been the one solid OL for the Buccaneers for many years. It is finally happening where the team is turning into a winner and he is going to be a pedestrian riding the bench during it. If Gosder Cherlius keeps making dumb potential drive stopping penalties, Dotson could be back in action sooner than later.

Dotson really lost his job as soon as he held out. I doubt he’ll start for us again.
