“About 40 Percent” Coming For Jameis

Here come the Eagles!

No, Joe isn’t bleeding green all of a sudden. Joe’s talking about the Eagles’ pass rush.

Philly defensive coordinator Bill Davis told the team’s website that the Eagles are blitzing about 40 percent of the time this season.

Joe suspects that percentage will rise Sunday.

One could argue America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, has shown elite veteran decision making for the past five games. Remember, those two interceptions last Sunday were good reads — but represented a bad throw and a bad catch. Jameis had no picks in the previous four games.

With limited weapons, a No. 1 wide receiver with shaky hands, and a very hostile road environment in Philly tomorrow, it only makes sense that a blitzing team would kick things up a notch against a 21-year-old quarterback.

Keep in mind Davis worked under blitz-happy Dick LeBeau and Dom Capers. Philly’s 3-4 defense won’t be brand new to Jameis, but the 3-4 blitzing could a fresh challenge. LeBeau didn’t blitz Jameis much on opening day against the Titans. He never had to, and the Bucs have seen 4-3 defenses all month long.

Evenly matched teams… I’d probaly give the edge to Tampa because of Philly’s QB situation, however, this will be a hostile enviorment for a young Tampa offense. Look for the Bucs to lean heavily on Martin and Sims to get things going early. Studies have shown that when Martin rushes for over 100 yds Tampa Bay is nearly impossible to beat. Predicted outcome?

    Tampa Bay 27
    Philadelphia 17

  2. Defense Rules Says:

Philly’s defense looks like it’s been all over the map this year. Some games it’s been stout (only gave up 7 pts to the Giants). Other games it can’t stop anything (gave up over 40 mins time-of-possession against both the Cowboys & Redskins … both losses). They also appear to be a much better team at home than on the road.

Just read on PFT that V-Jax is playing. Better check that for yourself.

We have always done badly when an opposing QB comes off the bench. Remember Vinny Testeverde beating us? (One of many).
Hopefully things change today under the leadership of Jamies!

  5. Tampa Tony Says:

Excited to see VJAX back in action

I just don’t see the defense putting together back to back good games

Expect a big day out of Sims! Screen passes baby!
