Will Game Ball Buy Pamphile Another Start?

Decision time for Lovie Smith

Nothing gets a veteran player’s groin rumbling more than watching his young replacement get handed a game ball by the head coach.

Last night on the Buccaneers Radio Network, Mike Evans revealed that second-year left guard Kevin Pamphile, making his first NFL start, earned a game ball for his stunning showing against Jacksonville.

Of course, Pamphile was replacing old-man Logan Mankins, who oddly returned to practice on Thursday after Lovie Smith strongly implied Mankins has a serious groin injury. Hmmm.

Joe’s real curious to see how Lovie proceeds at left guard. Lovie reveres Mankins, but clearly another week of rest would help Mankins. And it’s always a good thing to reward a young player for strong play with what he wants most: more snaps.

    Don’t fix what isn’t broken

  2. JAB83 Says:

Wouldn’t a groin issue mean Pamp needs two balls before he replaces Mankins??? I think it does Joe, I think it does indeed!!!

That said give Pamps another week before letting the Man return…

  3. Buccfan37 Says:

I don’t see why the decision hasn’t already been made to start Pamphile since Mankins is not ready. Jeez, it’s not rocket science, play the guy who had a good game his last time out.

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

This has nothing to do with Pamphile and everything to do with whether Mankins is ready or not.
Mankins won’t want to risk further injury….but if it’s simply playing with pain…..Mankins will want to play.

  5. Tampamac Says:

I don’t think playing hurt or with pain is an issue for Mankins.. Dude played an entire season with an ACL tear. He simply doesn’t want to lose his job ala E(D)S.

  6. James Walker Says:

If a player has struggled before an injury, and his replacement plays better when the starter is out. You should have a new starter.

  7. 813bucboi Says:

the past 2 games have been outstanding for the oline and rbs…I hope lovie doesn’t try to switch things up because they are really starting to gel…GO BUCS!!!

  8. Howard Cosell Says:

Howard swears that the people saying to not bring Mankins
back next year have to be Glazer bean-counters posting as
    shills.
The smart TEAM move would be to bring Mankins and EDS
both back as depth, and in Mankins case, as a leader and tutor.

Joe has even said that Mankins tutelage may be part of the
reason why Pamphile is suddenly a legit lineman.

These people that post about saving money on salaries
have to be shills. Why would any fan care about that?
    The answer is they wouldn’t.

  9. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Who would have thunk it just a couple of months ago. All of the sudden our OL looks like one of the most competitive spots on the team!

  10. ShameisTheFarmer Says:

@howard cotard – an 8 mil a year guard as depth? really?

  11. Buc1987 Says:

Howard not if said fan is thinking the money could be spent differently on other important needs. I agree Shameis on this one. That’s is a lot of money to be paying a back up guard.

  12. Howard Cosell Says:

    ’87
How often does that work out like we think it will and how often does it
blow up in our faces? Howard needs facial reconstruction surgery.

Just resign the good players and quit with the
damn penny pinching…..you know, like they do with the ManU roster.

  13. Howard Cosell Says:

We’re certainly not in any danger of going over the cap, so this
“why pay Mankins 7 mil” argument has absolutely no validity.

PAY THE GOOD PLAYERS. Like Bennett.

  14. godzilla13 Says:

Because we could spend the $ on a speedy WR, or a DE or two, or a Safety or two, or a CB or two, or a TE, or a young talented Guard?

  15. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Buccfan37, I’m not trying to go after you, so don’t take offense to what I’m saying. Lovie knows who is going to play. He won’t say, but he knows. Whenever we sit here and debate who plays or not and act like Lovie doesn’t know what he going to do, he does know. He just won’t tip his hand. I know it sucks, but it’s the way it is.

  16. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Howard Cosell, Mankins is a good player????

  17. Bucfan951 Says:

Spend big money on depth? Are you for real or yanking our chain?
