Bucs Players Love College Football

"America's Quarterback" and other Bucs players are as passionate about college football as fans are.

“America’s Quarterback” and other Bucs players are as passionate about college football as fans.

A neat thing about the Bucs’ locker room, and Joe is guessing it’s across the NFL, is that while players may be rock-solid teammates, when it comes to college football, their school passion pours out of their hearts.

Joe was witness to a couple of funny examples last week.

When Gerald McCoy had a platoon of reporters huddled around him, Henry Melton began hitting GMC with a towel until GMC spoke up .

“Yeah, alright, go Texas!” GMC blurted out to stop Melton.

You see Melton, a Texas alumni, had wagered with GMC, a proud Oklahoma product, on the annual Red River Rivalry between Oklahoma and Texas. Last week, the underdog Longhorns beat the previously undefeated Sooners. So GMC had to pay up.

The cost? Propping Texas in front of probing reporters.

As soon as GMC praised Texas he barked to all the reporters, “Now delete that!”

It got better.

Russell Shepard, Louis Murphy and “America’s Quarterback,” Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, got into a loud debate over who played on the best team in college. Shepard, who did play at LSU but not for the 2007 national champs, suggested Florida State, Jameis’ team, had the better quarterback. Jameis kept repeating, “Undefeated. Undefeated!” Those comments prompted Louis Murphy, who won a title at Florida, to holler, “We didn’t play Boston College or Duke!”

It was a hilarious back and fourth between the three. Even GMC joined in for a bit, though confessed he and his Sooners lost to the Gators in a national title game.

A Bucs player came up to Joe (can’t remember who) with a wide smile on his face, saying, “This goes on every day,” nodding at Jameis and Murphy. “You just don’t get to see it.”

So when you sit down with your cold beverage(s) today to soak in college football all afternoon and evening, remember, even though NFL players are paid to play, they are just as passionate about college football as the rest of us. Maybe more.

That is awesome that these got an opportunity to get educated and play a sport for a living. Bragging rights of their sports programs is just a bonus. Good for them.

    Ummmmmmmmmm Go Noles!

Jameis is at the game. Good to see he’s keeping busy on these off days. 🙂

    Dalvin Cook for Heisman!

Oh and I’m happy to see the Gators QB suspended for the season. That put a smile on my face when I saw that. I wore my FSU JW jersey to last weeks Bucs game, and had quite a few Gator fans doing their stupid little Gator hands thingy to me. So I had to laugh when the kid got suspended. go Gaytors!

87… I guess you can rest a little easier that the Gators starting QB is out. Had you worried huh? Sure he did.

  7. Buccfan37 Says:

FSU better step it up, Louisville is giving them all they can handle. I expect the home team will prevail in the second half.

  8. Buc1987 Says:

Buccfan37 ..it’s also all about Cook. He’s not healthy, but still running anyways. I expect that hammy to get real bad any week now. FSU’s secondary looks worse than the Bucs secondary too. So this might be a close game.

  9. Couch Fan Says:

    GO GATORS!!!

  10. Buc1987 Says:

Couch …Holy crap are they going to have their hands full tonight. Can’t wait for that game. Great Saturday for college ball today. Lovin’ it like candy today.

If the Bucs can find a way to get Dalvin Cook and Roberto Auguyo, we could lead the NFL in points for the next 15 years. Go Noles!

  15. Buc1987 Says:

Cook is a sophomore not a redshirt one either….he has to stay for another year @ FSU. I can see why you want him. The dude just has an explosive burst when he turns the corners, he’s gone. The guy runs BY defenders. I mean right by them.

  16. Buc1987 Says:

I give up Joe. What word is getting filtered for no good reason?

  17. Buc1987 Says:

HA I nailed the word. Sorry Joe for all the double and triple posts please just delte them all I’ll re-word it without that word. Strange though.

Fsuking …Cook won’t be eligible until after NEXT season.

There is that better Joe. Geesh!
