Austin Seferian-Jenkins Out With Serious Shoulder Injury

September 22nd, 2015
It's Luke Stocker time1

It’s Luke Stocker time!

Ugh!

It’s back to the cold tub/hot tub/crying tub for second-year tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins.

Buccaneers flagship radio station WDAE-AM 620 is reporting Seferian-Jenkins has a strained shoulder injury that will keep him out four to six weeks.

It’s a surprise, but it’s not a surprise. Seferian-Jenkins entered his 2014 rookie season recovering from foot surgery. He then severely sprained an ankle on opening day, and then had a series of additional injuries, including a back ailment that landed him on injured reserve.

Seferian-Jenkins was fine this season — and now he’s not.

Brandon Myers and Luke Stocker will now get plenty of chances to shine. Joe’s feeling a Tim Wright pang about now.

Joe- no funny nickname for ASJ? Let me suggest Mr. Glass. He was the drive killer on Sunday but Mr Glass fits him perfect

  5. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Dob the Cowboys have a good tight end?

  6. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    “Do” I mean.

  7. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Fans said Gerald McCoy was injury prone too.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Too bad…ASJ was starting to shine

Yes….he dropped a pass when he was wide open….but being honest….Jameis badly underthrew the pass and ASJ lost the ball when he was contested and went to the ground…..look at the play….there is no way ASJ should have had to come back for the ball or he would have likely scored.

Even Jameis would admit the pass was off….

  9. Fishfries Says:

It’s official! ASJ is injury prone.

  10. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Cowboys have Gavin Escobar, who has looked goog.

Gavin Escobar and a 3rd for Glennon?

  11. The Real Malloy Says:

    Austin Severe Should Strain Jenkins

  12. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

sheesh, apparently typing in the dark effects my spelling.

  13. BucTrooper Says:

    Injury prone. Stamp it.

ASJ? More like MG – mr. Glass.

  14. NJBuccsfan Says:

Gavin Escobar is a young guy(24) that has shown some good things… But if you’re thinking what I think you’re thinking, I don’t know if hes worth thinning out the QB position for

  15. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Let’s go Mr. Licht don’t look like the Bills using my guy O’leary much. I’ll be waitin on it.

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Stocker went through this…seems our TEs need a couple of years of injuries before smoothing out…..

  17. Willslck Says:

Tim Wright didn’t kick a 55 , 35 and 22 yard field goal on Sunday.

  18. PRBucFan Says:

    lol #MrGlass indeed

    Dude is just unreliable.

I had O’Leary on my wishlist. Wish Licht would acquire him in a small trade deal. Maybe a 6th rounder?

  20. TheShaz Says:

    Shame

ASJ could have really used this time to gel with Jameis……WHat happens when Jaboo finds another TE to throw too?

Both ASJ & Evans on paper they are outstanding, but in reality they are riding the stationary bikes.

  21. 1gr8Bucfan Says:

@ Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. I agree lets hook Winston and O’Leary up again.

  22. Mike10 Says:

5 hours ago they reported us signing some TE off the Saints practice squad, Cameron Brate?

Concerning he’s on their practice squad with as much help as they need up the middle of the field.

  23. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Yea fellas O’leary would be a dream. Nothing wrong with waitin on it.

  24. Buccfan37 Says:

When Evans said he was feeling 100% he must of meant for walking. ASJ probably suffered the injury on that pass he dropped going to the ground. Receivers just need to get open, Winston will find you given time. Brindza might lead the league in FG’s kicked, waiting for that 60 yard boot spliting the uprights.

  25. Brent Says:

Yeah this is why I thought it was a bad draft pick in 2nd rd by licht. This guy was hurt a lot in college too.

  26. celly Says:

Guys…as per The Buffalo Bills Roster, O’Leary is just on the practice squad, not even the active roster.

It wouldn’t require a trade, just an offer sheet that Buffalo is unwilling to match.

  27. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Nick O’Leary is well built, can block and has really, really good hands. When he fell to the 6th round, I had really hoped we would get him.

  28. Buc1987 Says:

    So what? Next man up.

  29. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Thanks, Celly! Bucs need to snag him!

  30. BuccaneEric75 Says:

This really sucks. He’ll be out for the year. Collect that paycheck, buddy.

  31. D-Rome Says:

Gosh, I wish we had a proven pass catching TE who has a Super Bowl ring…

  32. Lakeland Buc Says:

We will probably bring back Cameron Brate, what is up with these Jenkins?. ASJ and Mike Jenkins are always injured, Brandon Myers can be a decent receiving TE.

  33. Bucsfaninchina Says:

Don’t hold your breath for OLeary. Seems that since day 1 of the Lovie Smith regime a prerequisite to playing TE is to block. Something OLeary and Gavin Escobar have both proven they suck at. Get ready for lots of Luke Stocker and Javorskie Lane

  34. doubles Says:

Kenny Bell has another buddy to play sideline catch with while VJax and Murphy actually move the chains.

  35. BigMacAttack Says:

Evans Jackson & Murphy can carry the load. Jameis has to step up his game and Doug Martin pound the rock.

  36. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Thanks for the insight celly. Anyone know Jason’s personal number? If so I’m over here waitin on it.

  37. Another J Says:

Brandon Myers was a good tight end once upon a time…
I think he could hold down the pass catching duties until ASJ gets injured again!

  38. Supersam Says:

Blame Winston. Jenkins got hurt on the play in the end zone where Winston over threw him and he landed awkwardly on his shoulder and then took a big shot on top of it, he clearly is in pain and holding his shoulder when he gets up. Don’t believe me check the film.

  39. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Faninchina ASJ wasn’t known for his blocking coming out of school but I’ll bet money O’leary’s hands are more dependable. Just saying, like always still waiting on it.

  40. Jeff Says:

Probably hurt his wittle shoulder when he dropped yet another pass…Poor ASJ, just another injury prone chump!

  41. bucrightoff Says:

Someone on this site (apologies for lack of attribution) said it pretty well when it comes to ASJ

Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane.

Absolutely looks the part of a very good TE, just soft it seems. Cannot stay healthy. And mentally soft too.

  42. nick Says:

Oleary are you kidding me, your a fsu mark nole on sat, stop marking out so hard you buster

  43. Tampabaybucfan Says:

This is all Joe’s fault…..ASJ read Joe’s articles about staying healthy…..went into the game playing scared…..best way to get injured.

Perhaps it was the playcall……that’s what hurt Doug Martin’s shoulder.

  44. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

nick let me guess, you’re either a gator fan or ya moms smoked a lot of dope during her pregnancy with you. Which is it,let me know. I’m waitin on it.

  45. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

ASJ being out isn’t a big deal. He’s does as much good as he does bad in games, touchdowns and fumbles/penalties respectively. Thank God we have a genius offensive coordinator that can make adjustments. We just need our O-line to block well

  46. StPeteBucsFan Says:

We are not subtracting that much with the loss of ASJ. He flashed in the Titans game and he appears to have a lot of upside. But at some point he’s going to have to worry about the old…looks like Tarzan plays like Jane. On balance he did not have a great game in N.O..

Myers will not set us back and Stocker can block which is important given our OL is still young and developing. I was a big Cameron Brate fan.

Sometimes you have to go on production and not looks…who thinks Julian Edelman looks like a very successful receiver.

  47. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @Bucs Fan #7423

I disagree. Winston was starting to trust him and ASJ was finally starting to show something.

  48. Nick2 Says:

Wow the guy is made of glass. Damn it man.

  49. Mo_Downs Says:

Never fill out a line-up card in ink. Use a pencil.

My prediction is that we’re going to run a lot and play killer defense.
Oh, wait…isn’t that the game plan, for every game?

In the mean time, all 3-TE’s were in camp from the start and know the playbook. Winston has thrown to all 3 during OTA’s and TC and has some feel for their route/timing. So, despite their individual shortcomings all 3 can contribute.

To be honest, I’m not expecting much of a drop-off in TE stats. The Bucs will still run a 2-TE set most often for max protect. The problem will be tipping our hand in the running game based on which side Stocker lines up.

Smash Mouth Football, here we come.

    Go Bucs..!!

  50. 77bassguitarist Says:

@ tampa tony mr.glass sounds about right

  51. JAB83 Says:

Do any of you realize he injured it on the pass he tried to catch in the end zone?!?! The guy gives it his all and stuff happens… A better pass its six plus’s he is not hurt… But the fact he was hurt on an effort play should allow most of you to appreciate his effort… He is a hell of a good player with bad luck early in his career… You folks calling him soft from a soft chair are funny

  52. Rojas_ Says:

Agree. Shouldn’t give up on ASJ yet, he was actually starting to shine with Jameis. I am all for picking up o’leary, an like I said before why not offer Dallas Mike Glennon for La’el Collins?

  53. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Same thing happened with Stocker early on….and GMC……It isn’t softness….it’s simply bad luck…injuries happen to the best players (Revis, Julio Jones, Manning, Peterson)……and the mediocre & the bad…..

  54. bucsbedabest Says:

Bucs Fan #7423 – “ASJ being out isn’t a big deal”. Are you kidding me? What is up with all of this ASJ bashing? ASJ and Winston really had something special in the making. Yes, he had way to many penalties. Most when he was blocking, which will be sorely missed. Without the penalties he was on his way to an All-Pro year. This is a huge set-back and you have to question trading Tm Wright. The issue is that with Mike Evans far, far from 100%, the Bucs have Jackson, Murphy and who? Sheppard and Humphries? We need another blocking TE so the offense can continue to use a two TE set. Winston needs another target. Teams are going to put there best corner on Jackson and double team the other WR.

  55. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I don’t question trading Wright…..our kickier looks really good….and we have Myers who can catch….we weren’t going to carry 4 TEs anyway…..Wright can’t block well so….not a great loss.

Time for Koetter to use Humphries and Sims more in the passing game…..I think we can adjust…

I will say that those who say ASJ is no loss are really misguided…

  56. JAB83 Says:

Not only will he be missed the effect will be as follows.

Longer development time cause he is clearly worth it
Game planning for and against will change because of his POTENTIAL skill set alone.
Lesser skilled players make less of an impact/splash plays
JW will have to adjust his read times

This is a big deal for both the short and long term… Look at what the safety was watching on VJax’s TD

Not saying we won’t still win 12,games like I put us down for :-p but it just put a wrinkle in the game plan… This guy and JW WERE AND ARE only gonna get better and better together…. It sucks for everyone that we will have to wait a little longer to be able to watch them have fun together!!!!

  57. OneLove Says:

WTF! He needs to man up and get back in there!!

  58. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

No knock against him but onelove I’m kinda thinking the same thing. Dag whus up wit the cortisone or some icy hot. Where my trainers at? I’m no physician but 4 to 6 weeks? Guess I have no choice but to wait on it.

  59. Buc1987 Says:

Most TE’s are typically injury prone to begin with. Especially the best there is in the game today The Gronk.

  60. PRBucFan Says:

oh God… here comes the FSU fans

    *O’Leary chants all around*

  61. BUC IT Says:

That really sucks about jenkins. That’s huge. Now we got to rely more on our D to hold us up. Looking back at that schedule. I see some more potential wins such as the cowboys(potentially no romo or dez), giants and colts??? But our D needs to come out strong. This team could improve a whole lot by the end of the season if it can get some momentum early.

  62. Clint Says:

This will start the losing avalanche. This will be his forte

  66. Fhill Says:

Wouldn’t mind they sign Nick O’ Leary???

  67. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

    Another lovie and licht bust

  68. celly Says:

Not a real follower of FSU football (I’ll probably root for them since that is where my/our QB came from), but I would see nothing wrong with picking up a guy that our current QB already has chemistry with.

He already knows how to run routes (assumingly, considering they came from the same pro-style system), already has a rapport with him (knows how to throw it and the anticipation) and he would provide a familiar security blanket.

Unbiasedly, I think it would be a good move. It worked out pretty good for Luck with Colby Fleener, right? And when ASJ gets healthy again, it could help with some 2TE sets…

How did the 2 do together when they were at FSU?
