“Six Weeks”

Dotston

Former Bucs starting right tackle Demar Dotson was on the practice field today talking about his knee injury, and Lovie Smith weighed in.

While using crutches consistently, Dotson told media that he hopefully will return in “six weeks.” Translation: Week 4 against Carolina at home.

But the Bucs have a new manbeast tackle signed this week, Gosder Cherulis, a veteran of 100 starts with the Lions and Colts.

It’ll be real interesting to see how Lovie Smith and Jason Licht handle Dotson’s return. He would be a fantastic swing tackle backup for Cherulis and Donovan Smith, and Dotson is paid backup money anyway. Of course, he could find his way back on the field fast if Cherulis isn’t cutting it.

Then there’s always a chance the Bucs put Dotson on the trade market before the Week 8 deadline. Tackle-needy teams are always out there. That consideration could hang of the development of second-year tackle Kevin Pamphile.

After practice today, Lovie said he’d be so happy to have depth that a healthy Dotson would provide. That got Joe wondering why Jeremy Zuttah isn’t here, but that’s an old story.

Joe wishes Dotston a speedy recovery.

We need Veteran Depth on the OL. With as low a salary as Dotson has we would be very foolish to trade him. There should be some loyalty to players who have stayed with the Buc’s and like it here, like Dotson.

    @Joe
If Cherilus’s pass blocking remains at the standard it has been at for the past 2 seasons, NO WAY DOT GETS TRADED. Guy’s a str8 up mauler in the run game but has required the assistance of “chips” from rb’s, te’s.etc on passing plays…especially when facing speed rushers. I say Dot comes back and stays on reserve back-up duty unless Smith hits the perverbial rookie wall or until Cherilus gets hurt.

I guess the Burger waitress had her “facts” wrong. Either that or Ian Heckles was just stirring the pot.

I do not consider Dotson a “good” lineman – but as of now – he’s the best tackle we’ve got. Get well soon Demar. Jameis needs the help to stay upright. Hope this Cherilus dude is decent – because I’m not all that confident that either Smith or Pamphile is ready for Prime Time. Time will tell. Just glad that Dotson’s injury was not more serious. It’s way better that this happened in the 1st preseason game than in the 4th one.

I suppose it will all depend on how well the new guy does. I can see them waiting to bring Dotson back until after the bye week though…just to make sure.

Trading the most consistent lineman on a bad line is absurd Joe.

Trade Dotson for a 6th round pick. Makes sense right? 🙂
Maybe you could get a package deal with Glennon for a 4th n a 5th
Then they can sign a free agent replacement that costs more

I keep telling people that we have talent on this O-Line.

I guess Beckles’ waitress turned out to be a pretty reliable source huh Joe?
