Report: Dotson Out Eight Weeks

August 16th, 2015
Bucs RT Demar Dotson is reportedly out eight weeks due to a left knee sprain per MRI results.

Lovie talks about Demar Dotson’s potential replacement

It seems Bucs right tackle Demar Dotson will be out an expected eight weeks due to a left knee sprain. That’s the word per the Twitter feed of Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times.

Dotson sprained his left knee late in the first half last night in the first preseason game at Minnesota. Dotson tried to walk off under his own power but eventually needed a cart.

In his day-after presser, Lovie would not confirm Dotson’s timetable but did suggest he will return this season, based on Dotson’s medical examinations currently available. Lovie also noted that whoever replaces Dotson will be the “best combination.” The first name he mentioned was second-year offensive lineman Kevin Pamphile.

Lovie noted that Dotson does have a knee sprain and since injury reports are not mandatory in preseason, Lovie said he won’t give any more specifics at this point.

    Ouch

  2. The Buc Realist Says:

If is ready to come back after 8 weeks, thats 3 more preseason, 1 bye-week. So that means maybe missing 4 games????

  3. Brent Says:

Sweet not bad. Hopefully licht will add a lineman or 2 soon. Gilkey Edwards pamphile seem dubious.

  4. Bucballya Says:

So maybe He will be back in week 5!

  5. BuccaneEric75 Says:

At least he’s not out for the season

  6. Stanglassman Says:

If it was an ACL tear in addition to the grade 2 MCL strain it would have cost him 10-15 million at the least and retired the guy. I’m so happy for him that it wasn’t worse.
He’s like bigballs Magoo with such high character I’m sure he will get through this.

[What exactly does Marcus Mariota’s quarterback rating have to do with Dotson’s knee? Please don’t hijack threads. If you feel a subject needs to be discussed, you can use Joe’s message boards. Thanks. — Joe]

  8. Bucnnole Says:

Evan Mathis needs to be on a plane now. Please get rid of Gilkey. He is pure garbage.

  9. Dick2111 Says:

Sure hope that Dots can make it back in 8 weeks … we need him big time. Also hope that the Bucs do the right thing by him and give him a new contract. He’s been solid for us for a number of years and certainly deserves it.

  10. Rrsrq Says:

Hoping it was less than that but glad it’s not as bad as it could’ve been, hopefully we get more depth and experience out of this. Line wasn’t great but was a total difference from last years first preseason game debacle

  11. Tom Edrington Says:

Gulp……a few more like this and it’s huge trouble…..

  12. Dreambig Says:

Watching that knee extend out the wrong way makes your stomach flip! Glad he will have a chance to be back this year!

    @Bucballya
DAM SON. U GOT TOLD NOW DIDNT YA LMFAO

  14. Coopsxx Says:

That’s actually pretty good news for him. Facing his last chance at a proper pay day it would have been a tough break if his season was lost.

Unless pamphlet totally sucks, it gives him some experience to create real depth so when the next tackle goes down its not a total disaster.

My fellow Bucs fans, is it me, or do you get heartburn when Lovie says Gilkey had the SAME snap problems in practice? THEN puts him to protect the Rookie QB? I hope Dotson will be back sooner then later, maybe a TE trade to Washington? Pamphile can hold his own.

  16. Pvine Says:

Why this organization treats the offensive line quality as an after thought is beyond me. And again, this season will be a disaster on the O-line. Same old crap.

  17. rayjay1122 Says:

I thought he has a torn ligament when the injury happened. I am glad for him and the Bucs that it was just a sprain and he will not miss too many regular season games. We still really need to try to grab a few linemen through waivers and possibly if a decent tackle is available for trade. We can’t have our rookie QB behind a rag tag OL.

  18. JJV Says:

Lovie says he wanted to make sure Winston was protected ? The Online is not solid or consistent enough to make any QB in the league have success, let alone a rookie. Bad snaps and poor blocking leading to sacks will soon put our QB on IR. We should have addressed the O-line this off season with getting proven veteran lineman that had long time success including Pro Bowl quality. Even if it meant trading for them. That should have been the number one priority knowing they were going to start a rookie QB this season. Then the young lineman could have time to learn and develop behind them. Our current plan is not going to work. This season will be lost before it even starts. I hope Licht gets on the phone first thing Monday and starts to make it happen. Ignore Lovie’s replacement plan and at least give Winston a fighting chance.

  19. Fred V. Says:

@JJV. The Bucs did what they could for the O line. But it’s been one game and the Bucs did not get sacked a lot like last year. People need to stop acting like QBs are made of glass. With Mankins and Smith as mentors for the new high draft picks, they will be okay. But I would expect first and second round picks for next year or DE and T, in that order.

As Bucs seek help with Demar Dotson injured, former Colts RT Gosder Cherilus (29 starts in last 2 years) expected to visit Bucs on Monday. from Greg Auman Twitter

Thank goodness he didn’t tear anything. I feared for the worst when he went down. Hoping he can make it back strong and earn that extension he was seeking.

  22. pancake block Says:

sign evan…see if the kid(ali) can play at right tackle

  23. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I just hope he gets his money. He had it coming but now he’s lost a lot of leverage.

  24. gotbbucs Says:

How exactly does signing Evan Mathis fix the right tackle spot? Some of you will look at any excuse you can to sign a recognizable name.
This is actually about as good of news as we could get. Put him on the PUP list and dont rush him back.

Dotson??? How does he deserve anything at all? He hasn’t proven a thing. All we had before the injury was the HOPE that he would do okay as a tackle.

He got to prove he can get through a season first.

Kevin Pamphile will get an opportunity. He’ll been working with our oline coach for a year now. Maybe he has developed enough…or can adapt on the fly.

Thank God…nothing compared to an ACL/MCL….we dodged a bullet on that one.

Give Edawn Coughman a shot, he’s a RT.
