No Screaming At Rookie O-Linemen

Lavonte David explains

Bo Pelini and Greg Schiano are high on the list of supreme football lunatics of this century.

They’ve broken their share of players, and common-decency rules in the process.

Lavonte David played for both of those guys, and somehow came out shining and sane.

David joined SiriusXM NFL Radio recently and was asked about the Buccaneers’ rookie offensive linemen, second-round picks Ali Marpet and Donovan Smith.

David had little to say about Marpet, praised Smith’s movement and size, and said both are very quiet, work-focused types.

And then the Bucs’ stud linebacker stated he likes what he’s not hearing.

“I haven’t heard a coach yell at them or nothing. So, you know, for me, I always see that as a good sign. You don’t have no coach yelling at you or whatever, I think that’s a great sign,” David said.

Joe’s up for any good nugget about the rookies, who likely will be called upon to keep America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, alive and well.

But it’s really impossible to judge an O-lineman individually right now. These guys literally won’t be able to hit anyone until Day 3 of training camp in August.

Vince Lombardi yelled at his players, as did Iron Mike Ditka.
After all, If You Don’t Have Anybody That’s Pushing You, Then Who’s Going To Make You Better?

  2. Waterboy Says:

Yelling doesn’t necessarily work with every player that’s where a good coach has to use a little psychology and know what makes his guys tick. Lombardi coached in a totally different era and some of those tactics wouldn’t work with every player in today’s game. I think Ditka learned that after getting fired from Chicago and New Orleans.

He seems to be saying that they aren’t getting yelled at because they are performing, not because Buc coaches don’t yell.

Folks dont read this to quickly or you’ll miss it… seems LVD is meaning if no coach is yelling at you, you’re on the right track.

    I miss Schiano.

How much do the underwear guys pay you for this dumb click bait?

Kevin Pamphile, Kadeem Edwards, Garrett Gilkey, Donovan Smith and Ali Marpet. All players George Warhop had influence in bringing to the Buccaneers and the caoch who is responsible for teaching these players blocking teknique and scheme. If the Buccaneers OL is successful this year or if it is a failure George Warhop needs to be accountable.

    Can’t disagree.

That seems to infer that you believe “yelling” is the ONLY way to make somebody better. Coaches like Chuck Noll and Tom Landry would disagree. Of course closer to home Tony Dungy nor Lovie are screamers.

Schiano should have been yelling at himself, no one is perfect everyone makes mistakes, instead of yelling just call the player to the side and point out his mistake and tell him what he should have done in that situation. You can’t go around yelling at grown men, if you do , you’re going to lose the players. Yelling is not a form of motivation.
