Is Jameis Winston Fourth-Down Material?

May 20th, 2015

Joe learned from a Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach that one way to spot a special teams stud is to look for players “jacking around” in the locker room.

Seriously, Bucs special teams chief Kevin O’Dea, a close confidante of Lovie Smith, told media on Monday that good special teamers typically are guys bringing energy off the field. They can’t help it, he said, and that juice translates to the gameday turf.

“They’re excitable. It’s just their personality. You can almost pick them out in the locker room, because they’re the guys who are jacking around and talking to everybody,” O’Dea said. “They’re the last ones in the shower because they’ve always got something going on. Those are the guys that I look for, because those are the guys that are going to do that on the field, because they are doing it off the field. Those are the guys that I want.”

Joe heard that rant and O’Dea talking about desire being the hallmark of a special teamer, and immediately Joe thought of Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback. Even though Jameis is slower than Mike Glennon, Joe would still put Jameis on special teams, if it wasn’t so dangerous.

Yes, Jameis can block and go all out for teammates. See below. (And it’s not the only example you’ll find.)

Welcome to FSU Everett Golson. SkullGang2Blades.

America’s Quarterback will raise the intensity for the entire team. I am very thankful the choir boy and Glennon eras are over.

  3. bucco brice Says:

my god…Jameis walks on water I suppose too LOL

  4. Celly Says:

I would say, “yes”, Winston is 4th down material.

Not in the special teams sense, though. More like in the 4th & 2 from the 45-45 yard line.

  5. bucs4lyfe Says:

when it comes to game speed glennon is slower but 40 time means nothing because it’s pointless if you run out of bounce before the first down marker.

  6. Leighroy Says:

“Joe would put Jameis on special teams, if it wasn’t so dangerous.” So why is this an article?

Joe would bed (insert Buc cheerleader name here) if he weren’t such a “journalist.”

  7. Architek Says:

    Sure why not

  8. Captain Doom Says:

    glennon is slower….

    lol

    someone missed the combine.

put JW in on special teams and see the kicker outrun him 🙂

  9. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Oh, dear lord…

  10. Buc Neckid Says:

    It Seems
Joe would Bed Jameis too, judging by the number of Jameis articles we must endure.

  11. Captain Doom Says:

    you must be kidding neckid

we all know joe’s given JW more than one rusty trombone

  12. Ray Rice Says:

    @BUCCO BRICE

Magicians can walk on water, but Jameis can swim through land!

Who is forcing you to read them? Of course, Joe could bore the s(p)it out of his readers and write about the footwork linebackers are working on. Joe knows there are sites that have such drivel, and it is also why their traffic is lesser than Joe’s.

Joe knows what he is doing. And he is not in business to chase readers away. There is a reason NFL Network and BSPN were doing live updates of rookie minicamp (and spending thousands of dollars doing so), and it wasn’t because of Kwon Alexander.

If you don’t like Jameis, you’re going to have to lock yourself in a closet the next few years, or more.

Before this gets any further out of control I want the name of the stat boy who will record and report, interceptions, sacks, hurrys, underthrows, throw aways, overthrows and run out of bounds for the new King of QBs. I want this guy identified and checks made to be sure his count isn’t reduced by a faulty Patriot deflator and disappearing ink.

  15. Captain Doom Says:

it’s not out of hand till someone gets a donkey punch

  16. Buc Neckid Says:

    Why so Serious Joe(s)?
Your readers are NOT HERE for Jameis Watch 2015
We are here for the best BUCS website online.
And will even stand for your over the top Jameis coverage.
But geesh, gives us a break SOME of the time …

  17. OneBuc55 Says:

    @ Joe…

Keep up the good work buddy…I love reading every article you post on Jameis “America’s Quarterback” Winston…This is my first stop for all the latest Buccaneers news…Anyone that has a problem with the Jameis topics could always chose not to click on the article…

  18. Joe Says:

    Buc Neckid:

Heck, there is little to no “news” on the Bucs except for Jameis. Shoot, the guy doesn’t even do anything and social media is blowing up over him (Bowden comments). Right now Jameis is the Bucs. He is the news.

  19. Joe Says:

    Thanks OneBuc.

Jameis is blowing up across America. Sports networks do massive amounts of research. They wouldn’t spend an extra nickel to cover someone if there were not eyeballs, hence why NFL Network and BSPN flew in people for live updates during rookie minicamp. Joe has never seen that before.

There were over 50 media members at One Buc during rookie minicamp, about half were locals. If Jameis does anything decent with the Bucs, folks, you wanted attention from national media, here it is, big time.

(And yes, Jameispalooza is reflected in Joe’s nice bump in traffic. Joe aims to give to the people what the people crave.)

I crave more cheerleaders, hooters girls and rachel watson

  21. Joe Says:

I crave more cheerleaders, hooters girls and rachel watson

    A kindred spirit of Joe’s! 🙂

  22. Buccfan37 Says:

You could always write about Glennon stepping out of bounds short of the promised land over and over until my eyes bleed.

  23. Dave Pear Says:

    Uhh, Joe,
You do realize that robert 9 is probably about the FURTHEST thing from a kindred spirit as one could possibly be.

  24. Strider #FamousJameis Says:

F yessss Jaemis put the team on your back!!!! I can’t wait You were born for this!!!! Just amazing how F-ing lucky we are to get this man.

  25. BuccoDav Says:

Stupid article… usually the Joes give something at least half-assed intelligent.

  26. BuccaneEric Says:

I don’t know about everyone else, but I spent a lot of time looking for Bucs news over the years. Looking for good podcasts or websites unsuccessfully. Any Bucs site is a good one in my book, but I’ve never seen a site put out more articles than JBF. I will agree that not all of them are real “news” articles. A lot of the time the articles are just for us to enjoy the comment section! Opinion pieces that don’t reveal anything new, but get us talking. That’s the beauty of JBF. He has news articles and opinion pieces that get Bucs fans interacting. I’m the only Bucs fan I know up here in PA and this site makes me feel right at home! Thank you Joes! Keep it up and keep us talking!

  27. MadMax Says:

Forget about the detractors Joes…..He’s a winner, 4th down or whenever!

Do you detractors really believe Winston cant grow into his new role and carry that drive to win into the nfl? You’re more stupid than I thought….and you’re still wasting your time here with more detracting stupid comments….but carry on ignorant a$$holes

  28. White Tiger Says:

This “joe” must be moron joe….evidence that cloning is not only immoral, but also dangerous…like the more copies you make of the original, eventually the “ink” starts running low and you get a weird looking “copy”. The same as the rest,,,but somehow missing something.

Like the difference between Ira Kaufman and Martin Fennely…? Both are sports writers, both for newspapers in the area…yet one is good, and the other kinda pulls major vacuum? One has a long career of edgy/hilarious reporting to account for his longevity – and another’s who’s longevity can only be explained by either his mom owning the paper, or some pictures of his editor in a lampshade that he has tucked away in some safety deposit box.

Actually stating in a column that you think/wish/hope your BRAND NEW, slow-footed QB plays somewhere on 4th down and to support your particular brand of DUMB…you post a video of Jameis at FSU blocking against one of those POWERHOUSE ACC defenses he earned his “chops” against…who’s talent ranks right up their with Bradenton Southeast…?

Yep, Uncle Rico probably WILL” throw a football over that mountain over there…” before the season starts, too.

    This stuff is getting nutty.

  29. anthony gomes Says:

jameis winston may be floridas QB but he is not americas QB

  30. White Tiger Says:

He may be the FSU fan’s QB, but I would NEVER call him “Florida’s QB”…because he has a lot of winning to do before he lays claim to THAT monicker (and I don’t mean just “winning” on the football field)…
