Bucs Pick LT Donovan Smith In Round 2

Donovan Smith

Donovan Smith

Well, well, well. When Joe spoke with Donovan Smith, a tackle from Penn State, at the NFL Scouting Combine, Smith told Joe that he had spoken with the Bucs “many times.”

Joe stated at the time teams don’t speak with players “many” times unless there is big time interest.

There sure was. With their second around pick, No. 34 overall, the Bucs picked Smith.

    Me likey.

  2. The Real Drew Says:

I liked this guy, especially after watching him at the senior bowl. Just praying he lives up to the potential he definitely has.

  3. grafikdetail Says:

feel they could’ve traded back & still got this guy or another solid OL… titans got 2 extra picks (4th & 7th) by trading back!

  4. Buc Fan #237 Says:

    Good pick.

I would pick best OT/OG available in round 3.

  5. Joy4874 Says:

And they pass on Jake Fisher…here we go…

  6. Thomas branham Says:

So far l&l seem to be getting it right!!

  7. MadMax Says:

Awesome pick!!!! Now for Ali Marpet!!

  8. MadMax Says:

    Marpet or Nate Orchard!

  10. Capt.Tim Says:

    Good job- guy is giagantic!
Now- draft a Guard (Tre!), and it’s a good draft for me

  11. thunderchunkyPA Says:

I live in PA/Penn St area, he is a MONSTER. Penn St almost talked him into coming back. Fisher is a sexy name coming from the same offense where they question Mariota. This dude is the real deal.

  12. RastaMon Says:

I am fine with the guy…I was thinking of him in the 3rd….as long as he can play I am fine

  13. Bird Says:

Hoping the right guy with the tackles listed in front cause could u have gotten this guy with a trade back some spots. Lavar Harrington on nfl said he was best available but he may be penn st homer. Go bucs

  14. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Alstott looked like a ragdoll when Donovan hugged him.

  15. Sam Says:

He will be a beast at guard. At left tackle he’ll suffer a bit.

  16. Capt.Tim Says:

    Wow- we have BIG tackles

  17. Kelvin Says:

Liked the pick. However, they could have made better if Giants waited a little longer. Maybe stoping down 4 spots could have given them the opportunity to get him anyways!

  18. Mr. T Says:

I have to agree, I think they could have traded back a few spots and still gotten him but any ways welcome aboard big guy. So I guess they will be moving Dotson back to RT, we’ll see.

  19. Bird Says:

    Hope. So thunderchucky

  20. Deminion Says:

    Smith is a mauler

  21. Walter Says:

Fisher doesnt fit what we want our lineman to do.

  22. Zbucs Says:

    Like this pick.

  23. Gator N Bucs Says:

    i’M lOOOOOOOOOOOOVIN IT!!!!

  24. Skyline Crew Says:

I don’t see MY in him. More of a G.

  25. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

I approve, just draft two more OL, a DE, a SS, a ILB, a Wr. And ill be pretty happy

Awesome pick!!!! Now for Ali Marpet!!

    .

Got my vote. Or Nate Orchard

  27. dusthty rhothdes Says:

The BSPNers say hes lazy hope our crappy OL coach can get something out of him

  28. P'cola Buc Says:

A good pick however other OTs were ranked higher. Was Licht unable to pull off a trade down and still get this guy?

  29. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @dusthty rhothdes

Watch NFLN. They explained the reason. It was because he did exactly what his coaches told him to do. Because of this, it made it seem like he didn’t want to do more.

    It’ll be a good pick I hope.

Personally I would have taken Fisher.

  30. another questionable pick Says:

there were OT’s with better work ethic available. The wise move would have been to trade down…. could have gotten this guy and extra picks….. the choices of this coaching staff worry me……

  31. Stanglassman Says:

It takes two to make a trade.

I wonder if they would have taken the S Collins AL if the Giants didn’t jump in front of them.

  32. Jerry Says:

Could be a good pick. But I think this is a bit of a reach.

  33. Skyline Crew Says:

    LT not MY

  34. Uranus Johnson Says:

Hope that they draft well the rest of the way to at least leave a foundation in place for L & L’s successors.

  35. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’m just really glad we went Oline…..Lovie must have been dying to take a LB or DE…..probably got him restrained with duct tape……

  36. pete Says:

    He is a starting Olineman.
    That is a good pick!

  37. Zbucs Says:

How do you know anybody wanted to trade up? We got a good offensive lineman, remains to see how he plays as a pro, but there are pro and cons to every pick. I’m glad, it appears we have a plan to strengthen the offense. Go Bucs!

  38. RastaMon Says:

How long has it been since a home grown LT…wow…I really like addressing the OL…now a young guard

  39. MAYNE ONE Says:

Lets go get Greene and then two more lineman later. Our new offense would b awsome.

  40. Stanglassman Says:

    I bet Carol pick’d Gregary

  41. P'cola Buc Says:

Lovie Smith’s first 8 round picks including last year’s draft are all offense…….Who would have thought that?

  42. TheYucStopsHere! Says:

What yall think about drafting LSU LT Collins in 3rd and let these 2 battle it out for LT for a while and whoever loses goes to RG?

  43. Stanglassman Says:

Another big TE to defend against, ouch.

  44. P'cola Buc Says:

    @ Mayne One

I agree Rashad Greene in the third….reuniting him with Winston again.

  45. BUCS-ARMY Says:

Great pick. Protect JW is key. Need Guard in round 3 or 4.

  46. lurker Says:

    as i posted before…

so where is the best player available crowd? i thought that was a knock on winston. but there were better players available in round 2 but not a peep. gregory and la’el collins were better players available, correct?

  47. Jfat Says:

Gregory will get rag dolled as a DE, more of a 3-4 OLB imo. Not a great fit for the Bucs. Nobody knows what is going on with Collins, would have been a big time gamble pick.

  48. Stanglassman Says:

It should be called best players available that fits your scheme and is not potentially going to jail.

  49. Stanglassman Says:

The comish is getting booed every time he comes out to announce a pick.

  50. Stanglassman Says:

Two Bucs prospects back to back going off the board. Kikaha and E. Kendricks. Ouch

  51. R.O. Says:

How do you know they’re “Bucs prospects”? ‘Cause you stayed at a Holiday-Inn Express? Also, you can only pick 1 player at a time. Furthermore, who said a team called them to trade up? Stop with the stupidness….

  52. FortMyersDave Says:

RO is right: the Bucs grabbed one of the 3 best available OTs on the board (Our boy, Fisher and the kid from Pitt) who is not being questioned about the murder of his pregnant ex-girlfriend which chillingly reminds me of Ray Caruth though the LSU kid probably can’t hide in the trunk of a car…. Suree the Bucs could have traded down but why take the risk? Be happy with the pick Buc fans; the braintrust did not pull a Dominic and draft a wideout out of Appalachian State!

  53. Deminion Says:

Yet watched Smith vs Gregory Smithdominated

  54. MatthewPlus Says:

My brother in law played o line along side this kid. Said he was massively talented and naturally strong but lazy as hell. And that he always seemed to be hurt when things were tough. To be fair, this was two years ago, but I hope our coaches and vets can get the most out of him. We had to go oline, so I like the pick. Go Bucs!

  55. Owlykat Says:

We would have been better off to have taken Clements from Pitt who has a lot more upside. He had the potential to be the best LT in this draft. Smith is massive and a strong blocker but he should have competed with our late round tackle from last year and Dotson should have stayed at LT. Marpet will make a decent RG and would be well fit for Center should our starter go down.
