“Justice League Of Losing”

April 29th, 2015

bucs fan losing

Joe has to give props to good dude Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report. That awesome headline above? That’s Freeman’s work writing about the worst teams in the NFL this morning.

The Bucs stand atop this rancid group of super heroes. That will happen when you are 30-70 in your last 100 games, 6-26 the past two seasons, winless in both your division and at the Den of Depression last season, and boast the first pick in the draft tomorrow — earned, not acquired by trade.

To escape this NFL acid reflux, a team’s best bet is to get a quarterback, which is why the Bucs all but surely will draft Jameis Winston tomorrow night. Freeman takes a look at the sorry history of Bucs quarterbacks and how the once proud team is a league joke.

Tampa Bay: In the history of their franchise, the Buccaneers haven’t given a second contract to any quarterback they’ve drafted. That is a level of putridity that has to be unprecedented. (More on that statistic below.) They simply cannot continue this. They cannot screw up this pick.

The Buccaneers have never given a second contract to a quarterback they drafted. Not one. That means of 20 quarterbacks in 39 drafts, not one got a second contract.

The best way out is to get a quarterback. You don’t get that by being scared. You don’t get that by renting an aging signal-caller (well, hello there, Chucky!).

You get out of this mess by drafting and developing a quarterback who will be around in a few years. Otherwise, your ceiling is the Rams.

That will change starting tomorrow night when we draft Marcus Mariota I just heard the former rock star talk about how much are new offensive coordinator Dirk who loves Marcus Mariota style.Marcus wooooooooo.Tampaaaaaaa

  2. the real Bucobruce Says:

someone just showed me a crazy comparison of Steve McNair in Jameis Winston they are so much like each other its not funny the only difference is Steve McNair is better in every aspect so please do not draft Jameis Winston

  3. BucFan20 Says:

That does not mean they would draft Winston then send him to another them to win a Super Bowl. Drafting him does not mean they will resign him. This team always does stupid crap.

  4. Bucco Bruce tb Says:

If Joe and the rest of the FSU Freaks take their heads out of their butts and read the majority of the headlines are about teams trading up to get Mariota. You do not hear any teams talking about moving up to get Winston because they know he could be a sure fire bust.

  5. passthebuc Says:

Tomorrow is the draft. After the first selection, are you going to write about the others or are we going to continue selling Winston???????????

  6. Joe Says:

Correction, Duck Breath: You can’t trade for a guy who is not available. Make sure you go to Pete and Shorty’s tomorrow night so you can have a chance to win your Jameis Bucs jersey.

  7. jb Says:

Why do the Bucs have the dumbest fans in the NFL?
Joe, I feel this is a valid question……

  8. BucFan20 Says:

It will be like , oh ya by the way they also drafted . And that will be the last you hear of them. The Winston coverage will get worse.

  9. HawaiianBuc Says:

Literally the dumbest thing I hear is that people say “nobody is trying to trade up for Jameis Winston”. You don’t know what’s really happening behind closed doors. The phone could be ringing off the hook for him, but perhaps the Bucs have zero interest in trading the pick, and other teams know that. If other teams know the Bucs are picking Winston (which I’ve yet to see anyone think othewise) and are not willing to trade the pick, then why in the hell would they waste their time? Use your freaking brains people!!!!! Finally, the teams that are the most likely to trade up to get Mariota are the Jets and the Browns. How have they been lately as far as drafting QB’s? So in your warped brains you think that because the Jets and the Browns believe in Mariota, he’s going to be a star? SMDH. You guys need some serious help.

  10. ben Says:

Chucky says M.M.is the number 1 qb in the draft ..WHY can’t the bucs and Joe see that?

  11. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

It’s weird, I can’t find any articles about any teams trying to trade up for Andrew Luck but, a team traded up for RGIII.

So, RGIII is better than Luck?

Logic is a funny thing, when you REALLY want something to be true, you put aside the clearly obvious.

  12. HawaiianBuc Says:

I’m so sick of this debate, but I’m going to make one more point. I think we can all agree that in order for Mariota to have success (at least within the first couple years), he is going to have to run a similar offense to what he ran at Oregon. Even the biggest Mariota supporter can’t argue that. I think we can also all agree that we have 2 stud WR’s. I think we could even agree that those stud WR’s are tall, long striding, vertical type receivers. If you know anything about that Oregon, fast paced offense, that is literally the exact opposite type of players you want for that system. That is not a vertical offense. It needs a lot of smaller, quick receivers that can operate in space and make people miss. Think about what you’ve seen at Oregon, and try to imagine our guys fitting in that system. It would never work, no matter how much you want to pretend otherwise. Of course, we all know you haven’t seen Mariota play a whole game, except probably the last 2 he played in college, even though I’m sure you all claim you’ve seen every game he’s ever played.

  13. HawaiianBuc Says:

“Chucky says M.M.is the number 1 qb in the draft ..WHY can’t the bucs and Joe see that?”

    ——-

LMAO. Yes, it’s always good to take the advice of a guy you fired as to what QB to take. I mean, Chucky developed so many rookies into All-Pros, his word should be the Bible. Why did we even waste our time flying in Jameis and scouting him when we have our ex-coach proclaim on his TV show who is the right guy? You guys have it all figured out.

  14. TampaKen Says:

Licht said everything is for sale meaning #1 overall e.g., , yet teams still are interested in trading up for Mariota not Winston. Yet the Tampa media is over selling this guy(winston) to us for clicks and the personal story lines. People reference the oregon offense as gimmck yet philly had the #10 ranked offense in the league I guess that wasn’t pro style enough. I thought you base your scheme around the talent on your team not the other way. FSU pro resume doesnt look so tempting either from ej manuel to ponder. Even if the bucs take Winston I bet the offense doesn’t raked near #10 next year.

  15. Lord Cornelius Says:

“Why do the Bucs have the dumbest fans in the NFL?
Joe, I feel this is a valid question……”

Probably because Tampa has been so bad for so long now that people have just lost their minds. A lot of fans are extremely pessimistic about everything and react over-the-top to any move made. This one guy on ESPN every day is in the comments posting “WHAT ABOUT THE O-LINE WHAT ABOUT THE O-LINE” but never has a suggestion of who they should have signed by now and probably doesn’t even know what is available in FA.

Then you have the fans that think we need 12 new starters and think that all the playoff teams are stout and deep at every single position; when the truth is a lot of playoff teams still have huge holes or roster weaknesses and lack depth at certain positions.

You have fans that want to fire a veteran coach that has been to a super bowl despite having no QB after only his first season.

It’s like people have grown to expect failure and dissapointment so much that they are scared to take a chance on a QB because they think it’ll ruin the franchise.

On the other hand; in a winning city like Denver; i hear theam on talk radio today talking about trading Demarius Thomas if they can. A top 5 WR making 13 million (not bad). It’s like winning has made them think they can kind of do whatever without worrying; like get cute and look towards the future even though they are geared to win a super bowl next year.

  16. CoachG Says:

I wonder do the good teams in the NFL have so many misinformed fans like we do.

    Bucs have to draft Jameis

  17. Capt.Tim Says:

    Stupid
If you were to pick a word, to describe this franchise over its last 39 years, the word would be stupid
Stupid draft selections, stupid free agent signings. Stupid player decisions.

Last year was no different. If they had kept Penn and Zuttah- the line would have been much better. Instead, we release them with no plan. Sign garbage, and suck horribly. As usual.
We wouldn’t be so horrible at DE,?if we kept Bennett. Or didn’t waste draft picks on clayborn and Bowers

    Stupid!
But last year did do one thing right.
The draft class has potential to be very good.
Dear Lord- please don’t let me set thru another stupid draft. They better get us a QB- then O-lineman to protect him

And I don’t want to hear again, that the guys we have on O-line are good enough. To even say that, just proves that you are
    Stupid

  18. bucs4lyfe Says:

lol how many defensive ends have they drafted that have gone on to a second contract I can only think of one. enuf said you cant say quarterback is a risky pick but defensive end isn’t. we’ll end up with another mark barron type deal. there’s not one pick in this first round that’s a sure thing. all this talk as if this player or that player is this or that sounds foolish unless your talking hindsight which everyone is saying when talking about draft a defensive end. we’ve drafted better quarterbacks than defensive ends in the history of this franchise.

  19. Capt.Tim Says:

In their history, Bucs have drafted one great DE.
    The spectacular Leeroy Selmon.
    We traded for one
    The should be-in-hall-of-fame Simeone Rice.
    That’s about it.

We released Doug Williams,Steve Young, and Trent Dilfer
Who all won SuperBowls for other teams.

We really MUST get this draft right.

  20. miken Says:

the curse came when we sent doug packing. Thankfully Gruden burried it, but when we fired him, the curse came back and will stay twice as long.

  21. bucs4lyfe Says:

there you have it…..let Capt.Tim put in the pick for a quarterback, lock lovie in a freaking closet until about 9pm tomorrow

  22. Snook Says:

“You get out of this mess by drafting and developing a quarterback who will be around in a few years. Otherwise, your ceiling is the Rams.”

    CLAP CLAP CLAP

Best thing I’ve read here in a long long time.

  23. DrHoagy Says:

Amazing what short memories people have. Chucky had zero patience with young QB’s and gave folks a sale job on Chris Simms and Gradkowski. His drafting sucked as did Dominics. These same folks touting them now were bashing them when they had the reigns. I can guarantee that many of these Winston bashers were predicting single digit Wonderlick scores.
He will be your QB so get used to it Gator fans.

  24. Tom Says:

Nobody was talking about trading up for Andrew luck either, but they were talking about moving up for Bob the third

  25. The Buc Realist Says:

The last fired GM wanted to resign his QB freeman to a second contract so bad! Luckily for Buc fans a certain Head Coach stopped him!

But some experts thought he was a top 5 gm! LOL

  26. bucco Bruce TV Says:

Correction, Duck Breath: You can’t trade for a guy who is not available. Make sure you go to Pete and Shorty’s tomorrow night so you can have a chance to win your Jameis Bucs jersey.

Joe, I will be at the draft party tomorrow. Not sure why? I might slit my wrists if they select this guy. If they do select him or if they don’t I’m sure you can use that Winston jersey in the bathroom. I hear they our out of toilet paper!

  27. john herb Says:

Anybody know who the guy in the throwback is? I freaked out when I saw him. Could be my twin brother.

  28. Mr Magoo Says:

No NFL pros talk about trading up for JW because no pro in their right mind would not pick him number 1. The rest of the NFL does not think we are that stupid to give him up. But a few will call Licht just in case we might be. Only Mariota is the question mark to them, so he is more obtainable, thus the trade talk. Only fans are that stupid to give up the best QB prospect to come along since Luck. No one talked about Indy trading out of #1 to get a bunch of draft picks because for the same reason it would be too crazy for Indy to do. I bet the Bucs arent that stupid either.
