Jameis Watch: Tape Says It All

April 4th, 2015

50 and counting

Crab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, former national champion Jameis Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon.

It’s Joe’s daily nugget on the Jameis Watch, celebrating the best quarterback ever to wear No. 5 in the state of Florida.

One man hard to warm over is none other than CBS Sports skeptic Pete Prisco, the one and only. If he thinks a player is good, he will say it. If he thinks a player is bad, he won’t stop shouting it, often getting into Twitter brawls.

Prisco decided after the college football season to start watching gametape of both quarterbacks Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota. He thought watching tape and talking to NFL types would reinforce his belief Mariota would be the best choice.

After watching hours of tape and talking to dozens of NFL folks, the opposite occurred. Prisco became a Winston believer.

I’ve talked to at least 50 coaches and personnel people about these two quarterbacks, and, almost to a man, they prefer Winston. They are intrigued with Mariota, although a handful of them think he could be a bust.

I don’t think that, but there is no debate in my mind. Winston, on the field, is the clear No. 1 quarterback in this draft — even if their on-field college battle would make some think otherwise. Mariota won the game and the stats, but the tape showed Winston is the top guy.

Joe has encountered similar feedback. At Super Bowl Media Day, at the NFL Scouting Combine, at the NFL Owners Meetings, the Florida State pro day, and more, Joe could find only two NFL types who would pick Mariota over Winston.

And Joe trusts those who judge NFL talent for a living more than he trusts folks behind a keyboard, who for reasons unknown have a personal agenda against Winston.

  1. BoltIsle Says:

Were either of the Joe’s at the Gruden Camp?

I ask because I had seen a report that 30 or so WR’s wanted to catch the rock for JW and not nearly as many for MM.

  2. Luther Says:

I started out a Mariota guy but “tape don’t lie”. Anyone looking for the truth can see Winton is the better QB.

  3. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

I started out an either or guy. Then switched of course to full bore, peddle to the metal, non stop Jameis.

  4. Jman Says:

The tape shows him looking worse than Tebow against the most NFL like (still not close) defense he faced. His 4 turnovers and poor play against UF. Wow.

  5. OB Says:

If Koetter has the final say, I trust what he does, if not, it is a wait and see what happens.

  6. Eric Says:

Which is why, football wise, the bucs favored Winston for months. They said they had a favorite before the combine and those with legit ears at OBP said it was Winston.

Jameis knocked it out of the park at the combine, interviews, and pro day further solidifying his lead.

Only the “full investigation” into character based on all the hoopla remained.

That having been completed and the team obtaining a full report on Jameis, by speaking to 75 people associated with him and interviewing him personally on multiple occasions, were things finalized.

Now, it is simply a matter of waiting to see if anything unforeseen occurs to change the pic. Or a ridiculous trade up offer.

  7. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

I think I have to side with Jman and the other 5 people that knock Jameis. I’m sorry Joe I don;t care who you trust. I don’t care if they study film for a living, scout QB’s for a living, analyze players for a living. The posters on JBF know much more than them guys.

It’s so obviously clear now that we should just listen to them. Instead of the likes of Brandt, Prisco, Mayock, Jeremiah, and those in-the-know guys….

  8. WS99 Says:

Joe could find only two NFL types who would pick Mariota over Winston.

Morning guys. Let me guess, mayock and dungy?

  9. Kalind Says:

Hahah good point creamsickle. What do those fools know? Mariotta is better because I said so that’s why.

It has nothing to do with appearance or skill. I think I’m right. Proof be damned!

  10. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

…hey I woke up wondering if L&L are taking Jameis because he is the most “NFL ready” QB ( save their azz’z) and not the QB with the greatest upside and long term potential

Morning guys. Let me guess, mayock and dungy?

    —————————————–

Don’t forget Klatt and Dominik. I think the thing that really says it all is that those with current jobs prefer Winston.

  12. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

Is that photo symbolizing Jameis’s pose when the cops come knocking again…..

  13. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

Now I fully understand why Sam Kinison hollered so much….

26 days 9 hours and 56 minutes to go until Jameis is a Buccaneer.

Cue Kinison hollering : He’s your quarterback now, so take it, accept it, and for God sakes quit whining about it, argh argh argh aaaaaargh!

  14. Eric Says:

Take Jameis then trade up for a top notch left tackle.

We have to protect the franchise.

  15. Pickgrin Says:

I remember after the Rose Bowl – a couple people I know as well as some on these threads were saying – “Well – that makes our decision easy. Oregon won soundly – so therefore Mariota should be our guy”.

I was like – are you kidding me?? How could anyone watch that game and not come away with the impression that Winston is the better NFL prospect?

Tape don’t lie for sure. Some people just really don’t know what they are looking at.

There’s a reason why 95% of all NFL types and analysts say Winston is clearly the better on field QB.

Those who claim to prefer Mariota and cite onfield reasons for it should ask themselves why they are seeing things that 95% of all NFL “experts” aren’t. Fair question – right?

  16. Clint Says:

The debate has gone off the rails and isn’t one anymore.

  17. rayjay1122 Says:

FSU CB P.J Williams was arrested Friday for DUI. I think Winston will see first hand the dangers of screwing up from his former teammate and friend. I highly doubt Winston will do anything stupid to ruin his chances of being the 1st pick and our new franchise QB.

  18. bucrightoff Says:

95% of NFL experts said Jake Long was the sure thing in 2008
95% of NFL experts said Aaron Curry was the safest pick in 2009
95% of NFL experts said the Texans were morons for passing on Vince Young for Mario Williams
95% of NFL experts said Alex Smith was a better pick than Aaron Rodgers

Moral of the story? 95% of NFL experts don’t know much more than me or you. Draft is a crap shoot and they don’t know more or less than anyone else. They think they do, but the evidence suggests they’re guessing as much as we are. Best of all, based on history, there’s about an 80% chance the best QB in this draft isn’t Mariota or Winston. It’s a gamble that you do not know what you’re going to get unless that rare, Andrew Luck comes along. Neither of these guys is Luck or anything close (cue 87 saying Winston is far superior).

  19. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

    Winston is far superior!

  20. Abilu Says:

No mention of the Cole article? Too funny given you have s daily piece in Winston and that article was easily more important than this outdated BS by Prisco. Joke!

  21. Keepitreal Says:

Well even 95% of the you and me people believe Winston is better.. Only a few hanging on to mm. What does that say?

  22. Keepitreal Says:

Cole article is joke… He’s the last to know. Been out there forever… Grasping at straws.

  23. tiny tim Says:

I preferred jameis after his first start as a freshman. I was not swayed when the media was hyping the other guy. I knew once the evaluation process took place, it would become obvious. Fyi…just because you say mariota has more up side does not make it true. You can keep typing that until you are blue in the fingers. It does not make it true.

  24. WS99 Says:

Look even if we pick Mariota or winner we still need a team around them and right now we have a Skelton crew of back ups and role players. With the exception of 4-5 legit starters we don’t have a very competitive roster. Neither of these rookie qbs can win by themselves so L&L have a lot of work to do and not much time to do it.

  25. Keepitreal Says:

@abilu. Notice it’s getting no play on nfl, espn, si.. Ok Captain obvious

  26. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

Abilu …there’s no need for that article, because Winston was already vetted by the Bucs and the NFL, that includes this 2nd accuser BS. This is not new, news it’s old news. I guess you’re just finding out about the 2nd accuser today. Not our problem.

The conclusion : The Bucs are VERY comfortable with Jameis Winston, that includes the Glazers and L&L. Whom already knew about the 2 accuser. When they said “Jameis Winston can be the face of this franchise.”

  27. Stanglassman Says:

I never understood this ‘long term potential’ stuff these MM fans keep clinging on to. Born leaders that grew in playing QB from the pocket in a Pro system that already understand the game last. The ones that throw receivers open and are use to putting it in tight windows are the long term winners in this league. Not guys that might learn to play the NFL game and usually revert to using their athletic ability to get by while they hope to get it. Those guys win a few in the beginning and fizzle out in a year or two. Then teams figure out how to play them and their body breaks down from the hits.

  28. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

    R.I.P. Sam Kinison.

  29. BFFL Says:

Sorry but his pro day confirmed everything I thought..he has conditioning problems and clumsy feet. I thought the piece on game changer showed this also. I don’t give a damn what a bunch of manipulative GMs have to say..listen to people like Polian, Landry, and Dungy’s because they are telling the truth.

  30. Pickgrin Says:

And of the remaining 5% of NFLers that prefer Mariota onfield – at least half or more of those are letting their “concerns about character” color their perception whether they are willing to admit it to themselves or not.

  31. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

87 please don’t call her an “accuser.” This woman, if she even exists, is not and has not accused Jameis of anything. She is not an accuser.

  32. rayjay1122 Says:

All I can say is I am so glad we lost that last game to the Saints so that we can get Jameis. I took a while to come around to being a Winstonite but I am fully on board now. If we do something stupid and do not grab him with our first pick I will be totally crushed. Also Joe, why is my last post in moderation? Nothing inappropriate in it.

  33. OneBuC55 Says:

    @ tiny tim…

I’d also like to add to your comment that Mariota’s supporters are quick to say he has more upside than Winston but never that into consideration the fact Winston has never had a football off-season…so in reality Winston has way more upside than Mariota bar-none, it isn’t even close…

  34. Keepitreal Says:

Funny BFFL pics the only three with the exception of Domanic that likes mm. Forget the hundreds going winston. What a joke.

  35. tiny tim Says:

There are zero personnell men preferring mariota over winston baded on tape. They prefer
They prefer mariota due to off the field concerns period. Any gm or scout who prefer mariota based on tape would/should be fired on the spot.

  36. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

CreamsicleBananaHammock …well that’s what the media calls her. I’ll just call her testifier from now on…

  37. tiny tim Says:

    Based on tape

  38. Keepitreal Says:

To my count everyone has converted over exept Robetr, Fungi, Subparsam, and BFFL. Must be getting awfully lonely… It’s going to be funny when MM falls to 20 and Kelly passes.

  39. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

    87- oh I know, it’s just wrong.

The whole thing just seems pretty damn fishy to me. The only person who has supposedly talked to this girl is the victim’s advocate. According to the prosecutor the VA told the prosecutor and told Kinsman about this second woman.

The thing is…victims advocates are sworn to confidentiality. If this VA is going around telling people a detailed description about what he/she was told in confidence by a supposed “victim” then that person should be fired on the spot and FSU should be worried about another Title IX lawsuit, only this time based on this new woman and the fact that the VA was running around telling anyone who would listen about a conversation that was supposed to have taken place in confidence.

  40. Tampa Bay Bucs Tickets Says:

The bucs are going to improve by winning 7 more games than last year (2014) with Jameis this year (2015). We will be a 9 win team and contend for a playoff spot.

  41. Eric Says:

I always like the “hes not Luck” argument.

Which would require us to draft a qb every 20 years. That’s if we have the number one pick to chose the future mr. Luck.

Second fav is “its a crap shoot”. So we should trade down for more crap shoot opportunities.

  42. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

Tampa Bay Bucs Tickets …none of that happens unless they fix the lines on both sides of the ball.

  43. BFFL Says:

It is lonely on this site but not on most other sites. The problem is most people on this site are living in a bubble. The truth is Winston is a one trick pony that can make nice throws from a well protected pocket. He also has terrible pocket awareness and no ability to escape an NFL pass rush. His only chance to succeed at the next level is to master the game like Brady and Manning have from the pocket which to me is very unlikely.

  44. StPeteBucsFan Says:

You guys have convinced me to join the pick Fameis camp. Having said that though it’s because I feel Fameis is more of a “sure” thing and agree with the prevailing opinion that Fameis is more pro ready and MM might take more time to develop. MM could have a much higher upside than Fameis but he also has more of a chance to bust. And so I’m on board with Fameis.

But really Joe….here is where your reporting falls down. This sentence is a microcosm of all that you get RIGHT about Fameis and all that you get WRONG.

And Joe trusts those who judge NFL talent for a living more than he trusts folks behind a keyboard, who for reasons unknown have a personal agenda against Winston.

Really Joe? Reasons unknown? You know them full well. And if you’re honest you’d admit that some of them are reasonable while some in particular racism or hatred of FSU are not.

I could easily list them for you but YOU KNOW THEM. Please stop insulting our intelligence like they don’t exist both on and obviously off the field.

I could list them but we’ve beaten that dead horse to death and ’87 would have his weekend ruined.

  45. John Says:

@Jman…You play to win the game! Who cares about 4ints if u win. I’m sure if the bucs goes to the playoffs but Jameis avgs 4 ints a game nobody will care. Just win baby! Also go look at tape. 1 int. Was a deflection the other a true freshmen receiver stopped on the route.

  46. Couch Fan Says:

You didnt have to watch the tape, you could just of watched the game live and seen Winston was the better QB. They both made mistakes but Winston was by far the better thrower. Mariota only impressed with his running ability.

  47. Keepitreal Says:

BFFL go read the most recent article at bucs nation a renown mariota supporter just converted.

  48. UF Alum that likes a few Noles here. Says:

@DB. My bet is that we trade back into the first round to take the best OLman available

  49. Martinii Says:

Ok you got me. I switched to Winston a month ago. Unless he holds up a liquor store and rapes the clerk on camera, he’s our guy. I believe he will eventually be the face of the franchise. Unfortunately unless we get him some protection that face is going to be buried six inches into Raymond James turf. I think we need to start a “Save Winston’s face” campaign.

  50. Keepitreal Says:

    Welcome… St pete.

  51. ndog Says:

BBFL to help you some watch this link and then tell me again Jameis is a one trick point that needs a perfect pocket to succeed. http:// http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&ei=SQQgVabWJIKRsAX11IDAAw&url=http://m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DfpDhoph10qw&ved=0CB8QtwIwAQ&usg=AFQjCNGW7hDOJCYj5m6fYDaV1lghJqB3Mw

  52. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

Mariota moves better in the pocket than Winston. I’ll give him that. I’ve seen many plays where it looked like the defender was about to sack Mariota and he escaped to throw a completion.

Not just in the Rose Bowl, but during the season.

I watch a LOT of college football, and I’m also a night owl so I saw my fair share of Oregon games. Mariota is much more elusive in the pocket than Jameis.

  53. Keepitreal Says:

MM doesn’t play that much from the pocket. MM better athlete Winston superior QB!! Which one do you want

  54. bbffc Says:

95% of coaches and “football guys” get fired multiple times in their careers too. Just saying

  55. Brian Dorry Says:

I really hate the “Jameis is more pro ready but Mariota has higher upside” argument. By that rationale, Tim Tebow, Troy Smith, Pat White, and Colin Kaepernick all had “higher upside” than Peyton Manning because of their athleticism.

Sure, Mariota COULD learn how to throw lasers into tight windows. He COULD learn how to open up and use his voice to lead a group of men. He COULD develop the guts that it takes to take the chances a great NFL quarterback needs to take…

However, history tells us that it’s hard to develop these traits…much harder then it is to develop wiser decision making skills. Jameis has the higher upside…he already has almost everything you need to be a great NFL quarterback…all he needs to do is not do dumb things off the field (Roethlisberger, Favre, Marino, Peyton Manning are just a few quarterbacks that have proven this is possible) and to harness his gunslinger mindset on the field.

  56. Erik the WiseMMan Says:

I only watched highlights of both, but Mariota’s highlights are way more impressive to me than ‘Non-stop Winston’s’…… That’s actually a pretty good nickname for him. Thanks for that one, 87.

  57. Erik the WiseMMan Says:

I think Winston is the next Jeff George.

  58. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Brian

I get your point but you make a bad comparison.

Tim Tebow, Troy Smith, Pat White, and Colin Kaepernick all had “higher upside” than Peyton Manning

First you’re comparing them to Peyton Manning. Are you telling us that Fameis is the next coming of Peyton Manning? Because that’s who is actually being compared to MM.

Secondly nobody but blinded UF fans believed Tebow has a prayer as an NFL QB. Mariota’s arm is soooo far ahead of Tebows as to be an unfair comparison. Troy Smith and Pat White are only marginally better than Tebow.

Lastly you select Kaepernik. If Fameis is as successful as Kaepernik we’ll all be happy!!!! An appearance in the SB and two in the Conference championship in his first 4 years will make Fameis the toast of the town.

  59. you can't fix it Says:

I STARTED OUT LIKING WINSTON AS A QUARTER BACK ON AND OFF THE FIELD BUT THE MORE I WATCH HIM ON THE FIELD AND HEARD ABOUT HIM OFF THE FIELD I BEGAIN TO LIKE MARITOA MORE AND MORE , AND I THINK MARITOA IS A MUCH BETTER QUARTER BACK THAN WINSTON IS ON THE FIELD AND A BETTER PERSON OFF THE FIELD. …….SO MY CHOICE IS MARITOA BY A LAND SLIDE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  60. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @youcan’tfixit

As someone who spends far too much time on blogs here’s a tip for what’s it worth or should I have typed FWIW. LOL

Save your caps for emphasis. It’s the internet equivalent of screaming at us and many people get turned off by folks screaming at them. Just sayin’.

I think we would have still gotten your point. After all the posts of people like me who have switched from MM to Winston you wish to say there are others who have not. You realize of course you are in the minority on this blog and probably thoughout NFL circles.

But hey that’s what it’s all about here opinions and you’re certainly entitled to yours.

  61. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

But you don’t get to choose….thank God.

  62. JMan Says:

    @87

    I can present concerns right?

I see Byron Leftwich but with arrogance.

I also see it would benefit both QBs to sit to avoid David Carr syndrome. I hope either QB sits.

I also know that so far I don’t trust L & L evaluations so then being sold on him doesn’t convince me. I’m more inclined to trust Koetter though.

I’ve never knocked his off field stuff but I do see negativity in how he handled defeat.

  63. Luther Says:

When anyone posts in all CAPS, I immediately think that person is a 10 year old or less who hasn’t learned the nuances of conversation on the internet in the new millennium. Get off your mamma’s computer and go outside…this is grown folks business.

  64. Brian Dorry Says:

    @StPeteBucsFan

Kaepernick should not be applauded for the success of that team. Alex Smith got them pretty damn far too before they handed the reins to Kaep. They had the best defense in the NFL, a bruising offensive line and a great running game. I loved Kaep as a developmental prospect but he has failed to put in the necessary work to become a great NFL quarterback. Jameis is a far superior passer and will be from his first NFL snap.

Yes I’m comparing him to Manning. He’ll be the #1 overall pick and most view him as the best QB prospect in the past decade besides Andrew Luck, so he should be compared to other elite prospects. Those who have been in the classroom with him talk about him in the same breath. Now of course he will need to be completely committed and put in tons of work to have that kind of career, but yes, he has hall of fame upside…most guys taken with the #1 pick do.

  65. Erik the WiseMMan Says:

Winstonites are living in a fantasy world. Jameis will NEVER be the Bucs QB. Do u SERIOUSLY think L & L would get rid of Mike Williams for attracting the wrong kind of attention and then bring in the tornado of negative attention that is Winston?!?? They would be such hypocrites if they did. Case & point:

“Jameis Winston is going to be subject to a civil lawsuit going forward,” Jason Cole said. “Currently, the alleged [first] victim has already filed a lawsuit against Florida State, is expected to include Jameis Winston either as part of that lawsuit, or as part of a separate civil lawsuit somewhere down the line.

“And finally, there’s a second woman who claims to have had an encounter with Jameis Winston in 2013. There’s some expectation out there among multiple sources that she may come forward as part of that civli suit, and either file her own civil action, or at least testify on behalf of the first alleged victim.”

  66. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

    Erik…keep spinning your wheels…

26 more days until judgement day.

  67. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

The Glazers : “We’re comfortable with Jameis Winston being the face of our franchise.”

Erik’s interpretation : The Glazers are lying to make themselves look good.

Love Smith : “I believe in second chances, after I’ve done my research,” Smith said. “We feel very comfortable with who Jameis Winston is, what he’s done, and what he can become.”

Erik’s interpretation : Must be more lies.

  68. Getaclue Says:

You realize Mariota was sacked at twice the rate as Winston, this is what happens went you watch highlight films and not game tape

  69. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

Hell I’ve known about this 2nd woman for over a year now. This must be some kind of breaking news to Erik though.

I’m sure the Bucs have known about this 2nd woman and it she was included in their investigation. Not in Erik’s world though this something new to the G;azers and L&L….

  70. Erik the WiseMMan Says:

    87,

You have to admit that there is logic in my posts, though, right? I mean I’m not just blindly saying these things….

  71. Bucfan4life Says:

I do love the Mariota has the higher ceiling statement. There is nothing to indicate this as most athletic spread offense QBs fail miserably in the NFL. There is no convincing them otherwise. Everyone knows the Bucs are taking Winston. All of the experts are saying Winston is the easy choice. They ignore it all and will continue to do so. Even though they are Bucs fans I believe they will pray that Winston fails. I predict that if he has five good seasons to start his career they will still bash him. When he throws a pick or they lose a game they will be in here chirping what a bust he is. I don’t see these guys ever stopping.

  72. Erik the WiseMMan Says:

I actually think I might do some comnunity service and go picket outside of OBP on my days off on tuesdays. TheTampa Bay community will be way better off without Winston being a part of it. #Winstonisaclownandwillbeahugebust

AND IF MY CAP’S FANTASY YOU SKIP OVER ME AND READ OTHER’S YOU A$$ HOLES, OH !! AND I DON’T LIKE YOU WANTING THE BUC’S TO TAKE WINSTON , AND THEY WILL NOT !! BUT I DON’T SAY A THING ABOUT YOU ON HERE , SO GO HOME AND PLAY WITH YOUR DOG OR YOUR SELF !!!!!

  74. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

Erik…the investigation is over. They’ve concluded that they will have no problem drafting Winston.

All you are doing is repeating the stuff fans like Mr Patrick on here was saying 3 months ago before the investigation. Except he was so confident that after the investigation was doen there was no way they would make him the face of the franchise. In fact he argued with me daily on it. I kept telling him when the investigation was over, Jameis would be the pick.

I got called many names back then, because I somehow did not side with the obvious fact that Bucs would never make him the face of the team. Fast forward to today and that’s simply not true. They are more than comfortable with him 2 woman or not. The second woman said there was no rape, so there really is no story or traction to it.

  75. BFFL Says:

Winston was fantastic as a freshman but rather average last season because he has conditioning problems. Consistency is paramount in the NFL. He was 30lbs overweight at the rose bowl and it showed with those fumbles. Andrew Luck relied heavily on his conditioning as a rookie. Without it he would have been average at best. I don’t know why some guys have weight problems but they just do and it never gets better but only worse as they age.

  76. Erik the WiseMMan Says:

I equate those positive quotes about Winston from the Glazers, L, & L to the ‘Revis is a big part of our plans this year’ statement….. It’s due process, pageantry, & showmanship. That is all.

  77. UF Alum that likes a few Noles here. Says:

    @BFFL
Im all for Winston but I think you are missing something as far as the spread is concerned. In 2006 19% of offensive snaps were taken in a spread formation. in 2013 we cracked the 50% mark and in 2014 it went to 60% per ESPN stats and info. It looks like the “spread” is more than just some fluke thing. Not saying Winston cant run a modified spread such as Koetter would likely want to run but to say that Mariota will struggle because of his familiarity with the spread is a reach.

  78. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

Erik…what do they have to gain by saying it? If he truly was such a problem child they certainly wouldn’t put themselves in his corner would they? That would make them look bad.

Change the words to we are very comfortable with making a rapist our face of the franchise and then ask yourself why they would make such a statement?

    Showmanship?

I guess whatever floats your boat…

  79. WS99 Says:

    Buc

We may not have a choice we must get a LT

  80. UF Alum that likes a few Noles here. Says:

Yeah DB that is the only logical thing I can see if we go QB at 1. We HAVE to trade back into the first round to get Peat, Humphries, or Flowers.
    PLEASE BE LISTENING L&L!!

  81. Erik the WiseMMan Says:

    87,
But everyone ignores that it is an absolute given that they feel the same about Mariota being the face of our franchise. It’s just that Winston has all the question marks in that realm and therefore come all the questions to L, L, & the Glazers had to provide statements to. Obviously, they responded positively; but I feel like it was probably just political correctness and pageantry. Licht also said Mariota will represent this organization and community with great class and dignity.

  82. Brandon Says:

Tape is the most invaluable tool there is…and when the season was coming to a close, I was a Mariota guy..until I started watching tape available at draftbreakdown.com. Now there is no doub that Winston is better.

I spent half the day yesterday watching tape of WRs Jamison Crowder, Tyler Lockett, Ty Montgomery, Darren Waller of GTech (will be an H-Back), Chris Conley of UGa, and then I switched gears and watched tape of MLBs Ben Heeney (can’t tackle) of Kansas and then Baylor’s Bryce Hager, who looked very solid. Tape tape tape tape…it really doesn’t lie.

  83. ndog Says:

All the Mariota loves who rip Jameis on this site daily can you please promise us all that when the Bucs do take Jameis you will not return to this site? That should be your punishment for being so clueless and close minded. And again Mariota got a speeding ticket for going 30+ mph over the speed limit I guess that is not a danger at all to our community right Erik? Also that smells to me like a since of entitlement where he doesn’t have to follow the same laws as the rest of us. But again all of you Mariota lovers just ignore facts like that Don’t you!

  84. Erik the WiseMMan Says:

I cruise at 100mph on I-75 all the time and I barely even pass people. Doesn’t seem too crazy or dangerous to me. This potential for multiple civil suits against Winston could actually cause him to drop wayyyyy past #1. Anyone who says there’s zero potential for civil suits once he signs a contract is absolutely out of their mind and blindly in denial. #TruthkindahurtsforyouWinstonitesright

  85. WS99 Says:

    Erik

100 on 75 is much different that 80 in a 45. Come on now bro

  86. Pat Says:

And there you have it…in a nut shell: sex, lies, and (video) tape. And tape does not LIE…just ask Aaron Rodgers when he was in the Green Room that draft nite.

  87. Erik the WiseMMan Says:

    WS99,
That is true, for sure. I honestly didn’t realize that was the case. He’s still pretty much a Saint, though. And that’s not a NO reference.

  88. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

When I say people that are in-the-know are saying that the Bucs are taking Winston. I don’t mean people that are just making guesses like you and I. They are teling it’s going to Winston because they’ve heard things that you and I have not.

I mean people that have sources that are telling them that, and there is lots and lots and lots of in-the-know people out there with credible sources.

Fans that come on this site and claim Mariota still has a chance, just because they say so, or feel it in their gut are only fooling themselves IMO.

  89. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

“Joe has encountered similar feedback. At Super Bowl Media Day, at the NFL Scouting Combine, at the NFL Owners Meetings, the Florida State pro day, and more, Joe could find only two NFL types who would pick Mariota over Winston.”

“And Joe trusts those who judge NFL talent for a living more than he trusts folks behind a keyboard”

@Joe…This stuff is meaningless to the MM supporters that are left Joe. They will tell you it means nothing, when actually it means a HELLUVA lot.

Perhaps if some of them were at the actual combine or pro day or owners meetings hearing it with their own 2 ears, they might think differently, even then I don’t know.

  90. tval Says:

You dont know the facts of the case, obviously, eric, and should quit embarrassing yourself further..the fact is the standard of proof is much less in a title ix hearing and geared for the accusers benefit..if she couldnt prove winston gave an underage girl liquor in title ix hearing, she cant win a civil suit when they actually can bring up the 10 different versions of her story to destroy her credibility..fsu is even fighting her suit its so blatantly ridiculous. Why do you support a proven liar? Are you racist or just totally ignorant? Mutually exclusive? Im tired of the totally unsubstantiated slander you and your other mentally unstable compadre (im sure everyone knows the other morons name) paste on this site hoping people will be as ignorant as you and take the bait..get a life, fellas.

  91. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

tval…Erik wants Mariota in the worse way. So I think he just wants to find something or somehow to make that happen for him, but it’s just not going to happen.

  92. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

I could be wrong, but I think both civil cases will be thrown out of court. I also don’t think Erik-a Kinsman will get paid off either. Pay her for what? The damage has already been done to Winston’s image. I don’t see her getting a red nickel from Jameis. I could be wrong though, we’ll see how it all plays out.

  93. Luther Says:

“Giving” a under 21 year old woman alcohol is very different from under 18. This is a college age grown woman. She knows what she’s doing.

  94. charactermatters Says:

Sorry but She is no more a proven liar than JW is. She just can’t prove the accusation. I constantly hear the line her story has changed X number of times (the number varies anywhere from 5 to 20 depending on who is using the line). Saying she thinks she was drugged doesn’t make her a liar even if a drug test comes back negative. She may be lying about the whole thing, but this has not been proven any more than JW was proven innocent. Neither of these is the case. The only thing that was proven was that JW had sex with her.

Dumb! Dumb! You are complaining that Jameis Winston is a criminal and you are breaking the law. Freudian slip. You are the rapist!

  98. ATrain Says:

Funny all over you follow what the Media is spouting..

You don’t think the Bucs have infunence on what is put out.

Don’t know for sure who is the best pick however I do know who is more athletic, less INT, no off field crap, and is not an Ego maniac.

    But only time will prove.

Oh and I know who played their first strong team in the playoffs and took a beating

  99. HotRod Says:

Charactermatters: I don’t think you really believe what you just posted. Her changing her story does prove she has lied at one point or another. Also her story differs from her own friends, so that proves either she or her friends are lying. See how that works? If I say I’m 32 years old and then tell someone else Im 42 years old, I have lied to at least one of you.

  100. Erik the WiseMMan Says:

Lol…. the current poll on bucsnation has 56% of the voters saying that they are NOT ok with the Bucs drafting Winston and only 36% in favor of drafting him…. This is literally the ONLY site where a majority of buc fans have said they want Winston. And I tried to vote multiple times just to check and it didn’t count any of my additional attempts. SMH. Mariota will be a much better pro, IMO.

Joes, for the 2nd year in a row, u guys have hitched your wagon to the wrong horse.

  101. Erik the WiseMMan Says:

I played OLB for a few years and I would MUCH rather try to defend Winston at QB than Mariota. And I bet every single defense in the league would agree with that.

    Bucky Brooks :

“When you pick a player in the top 10, the expectation is right away he is going to give you performance and production. I don’t believe that Marcus Mariota is that guy. Marcus Mariota will need some time to develop into being a franchise quarterback. I love the athleticism. I love his ability to be a dual-threat playmaker, but he misses too many layups in the passing game. He does make full-field reads, but he doesn’t do it consistently. He reminds me of when Alex Smith came into the league, (and) needed some time to transition to a pro-style offense. I believe that’s what Marcus Mariota is going to need, and if that is the case, I believe you have to take him late in the first round. That is where I have him graded. I believe he needs two to three years before he is ready to play in a pro-style system.”

  113. WalkdaPlank Says:

You know, the only problem I really have at this point with the Bucs taking Jameis is that Joe’s site just won’t be the same. It will remain just like it is now. Joe will have at least 5 Winston articles a day with a little bit of Bucs news sprinkled in. People will still hate Jameis and (pathetically) will hope for him to fail, even though he will be a Bucs QB. Just like the Glennon Mob wanted Freeman to fail, just like the Freemanites wanted Glennon to fail (not all, of course).

Whenever the Bucs win, Jameis will be praised endlessly for a week, and when the Buxs lose, it will never be Jameis’ fault, because he is incapable of wrong doing. Only will a championship shut everyone up, and bring us back to the glory days of being undivided Bucs fans.

I hope Jameis is that guy, and I hope even more so that Lovie is that guy.

  114. Pickgrin Says:

What a joke this thread is. ’87 – you should know better than to take the bait and argue with these delusionals.

Eric saying he has never studied these 2 QBs and has only watched “highlights” does not surprise me one little bit. His opinion on which is the better QB – is based on nothing. The same goes for his over the top negative opinion of Winston’s “character”. He just spouts some things he’s heard. He has not taken the time himself to actually look at the facts in the Winston rape accusation case – so he assumes Jameis got away with something and was protected by the TPD and FSU. Same BS story line the NYT and so many other media have tried to portray against Jameis.

If you believe the false rape accusation and or that Jameis did something very wrong in that instance – then it colors everything else you think about Winston. This is the problem that soooo many have with him. Ignorance of the facts

Eric quotes the poll on BN saying majority do not want Winston – when BN has been participating in the hatchet job journalism the whole time. The lastest super negative sensationalistic headline and story that was written by Sander Philpse for BN website – is the perfect example. Creating new character assassination by making up a story and making it sound like Jameis will be in trouble all over again – because “now there’s a 2nd accuser who will testify and or sue Winston”. Its total BS. Not true and not new. Bucs know all about this and everything Winston has ever done for the last 10 years practically.

It’s done. Winston is the pick. let it go and get on board. Its fine to like Mariota – I like him too. But he is NOT your new QB. So accept it and get behind the Bucs new franchise QB. At the very least people who prefer MM need to stop the constant negative vitriol about Winston.

  115. lurker Says:

is erik still taking jersey bets? or is it false bravado!

  116. Erik the WiseMMan Says:

    87,
Actually, I was on the interstate & had to keep it succinct….. No, I didn’t play professional football… The furthest I made it in any sport was minor league in the Mariners system as a pitcher… In middle school/highschool, I was a QB and OLB. I was just trying to say that I’m familiar the defensive mindset & Mariota wouldbe much more difficult to defend than Winston.

  117. ATrain Says:

    87. What do you base your love of Winston on.
The Media told you he is the best.

Not on him being the most athletic, not on his ability to not throw the INT, Lost his last big game by a beating, or and loves to be coached when he’s not yelling and being benched.

Get Real this Guy is not the next Luck …Not even close.
More like the next Johnny party Football

  118. Joe Says:

People will still hate Jameis and (pathetically) will hope for him to fail, even though he will be a Bucs QB.

Anyone that does that simply isn’t a Bucs fan.

Joe was not a fan of Josh Freeman nor Josh McCown. He never rooted for them to fail (except the final two games last season).

  119. lurker Says:

all you have to do is open your eyes to see that winston is the better quarterback!

hmmmmmmm, the more “athletic” quarterback was sacked 7 times in one game versus a 3-9 (2-7 pac 12) washington state team. mariota lost his last big game by a beating and never won a championship. oh and loves to look at big pictures on the sidelines and to lead so quietly that receivers and other quarterbacks rally around winston.

  120. vancity bucs fan Says:

  126. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I bet he has the better rookie year too, if he starts.

    Joe Says

Anyone that does that simply isn’t a Bucs fan.

I won’t be hoping for him to fail…but I will have an “I told you so” ready.

Whoever we take, I hope he excels…and keeps his nose clean over the long term. Of course, I half expect a holdout from Winston. He wants his money.

Whether we take Winston OR Mariota, I will cut that person no slack in evaluating their play. I will not give props to any player unless it is learned.

For example, Mike Evans earned props last year. If he proves he is not a one year wonder like we’ve seen so often, he will get huge props from me this year. Even though I wanted Carr over him in that draft.

  128. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Which brings something to mind (just popped in my head).

Bandwagon fans. We’re down on them all the time, but maybe we shouldn’t be.

For one thing…they buy game tickets and merchandise.

For another, the very premise of a bandwagon fan requires team respect to be earned. Not really a bad thing to do.

  129. vancity bucs fan Says:
