Jameis Watch: Backing From Bucs Icon

December 11th, 2014

jameis 1211

Crab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, national champion James Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon and Josh McCown.

It’s Joe’s daily nugget on the Jameis Watch, celebrating the best quarterback to wear No. 5 ever in the state of Florida.

So Jameis Winston is not NFL ready, you say? So Jameis Winston couldn’t play for the Bucs? Might want to rethink that.

It’s one thing for Joe to evaluate Winston, it’s another thing for a drunk at the bar to say it, but when a former NFL quarterback with a Super Bowl ring to his name claims Winston is NFL-ready, then Joe is listening.

That certain someone would be former Bucs and Crows quarterback Trent Dilfer. The man who left the Bucs to win a title in Baltimore is now better known as a talking head on BSPN. He Twittered Joe the other day that Winston was so far ahead of any quarterback in the 2015 draft it was not even close.

Below are a couple of recent Twitter posting Dilfer had about Winston.

So who ya’ gonna believe, a guy who won a Super Bowl ring as a quarterback, or someone whose only experience on a football field is to mow the grass?

    Line of the day JOE!

  2. biggun Says:

Put a baby sitter on him and he’ll be fine… once a week the sitter can return all the stuff he steals 😉

why this site continues to promote the insecure poodle is beyond me…all he does is alienate your reader base…I don’t know about you but I’m not his b****h…do you hear him today?…

yo joe buce fan readers the big dog thinks you’re all suckers….

  4. Buccfan37 Says:

The Big Dog has spoken. He is going to keep his foot on JoeBucsFan for it’s support of Mike Glennon and the MG mob. I did’nt know there was much support.

  5. mike n Says:

Guy is not a top 5 pick. 22-17 ratio on an elite team is terrible. There are no top level qb’s in this draft so everyone will be pushed up. Please pass on him bucs.

  6. chocolatecvb Says:

Winston is clearly the best qb in CFB right now. I know he is immature but I can’t get RGIII and Colin Kapernick (sp) out of my head when I think about Mariota. I just don’t think he’s our guy.

Maybe he’d be awesome for Chip Kelly though. Chip Kelly is making Mark Sanchez look like a star lol.

Stay away from system qb’s bucs.

  7. Robert 9 Says:

a thief and accused rapist for our new QB. YEAH!

  8. 87ForJameisOrMariota Says:

sho-nuff …answer, because he’s going top 5 in the draft. It’s as simple as that and you better get used to him if they draft him. Which I think is a real possibility.

Same goes the rest of you haters, I mean Gators.

  9. 87ForJameisOrMariota Says:

Once again 5 iof those INT’s were off tipped passes from his WR’s hands. STOP looking at the stat line. It’s idiotic if you’ve never watched any of the games all season.

  10. Phil Says:

We need to do everything possible to draft Jameis Winston.

  11. bucrightoff Says:

lol at Trent Dilfer being a Bucs icon. By default doesn’t that make Brad Johnson a Bucs Demigod?

  12. biff barker Says:

    Bucs icon? Dilfer?

  13. buc4lyfe Says:

It doesn’t matter who says it because nothing in life is certain nothing in the NFL is a sure bet except bucs finding a way to lose

  14. OAR Says:

Bucs Icon???….Pfft!!! The way Dilfer played during his career, he should have just been mowing the grass!

  15. 911bucs Says:

I’m with 87 we need a spark and excietment on this team and Jameis provides that

  16. OAR Says:

“Winston is clearly the best qb in CFB right now”
That’s like having to pick the best out of…a Hyundai, Yugo, Fiat, or Kia.

  17. OB Says:

I have not seen the Oregon QB play yet, so the Rose Bowl with both QBs playing against teams ranked 2/3 should be a good test of the QBs but one thing that is not there and never will be is the off field behavior of both. Winston doesn’t come close to the other so far.

  18. JKTampa Says:

No sane GM is going to gamble his career to pick a player like Winston that can’t stay out of trouble.

  19. Brandon Says:

The same could’ve been said with Randy Hurney drafting Cam Newton. Hurney 1 Doubters 0

  21. Stu Laake Says:

Josh McCown the 5.5 million dollar babysitter…if that is what it takes…

  22. bucrightoff Says:

Cam Newton is not a franchise QB, and I’m gonna be doing backflips when the Panthers give him an idiotic extension.

  23. Bucnjim Says:

Man use your head! Any GM that hands Winson that multi million dollar (guaranteed)bonus is a complete idiot!

  24. Bucnjim Says:

Crab legs for everyone at F S U

  25. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

I didn’t have to listen to Dilfer to know that Winston makes to many mistakes.

  26. OAR Says:

    Hey Joe remember this…..

    https://www.joebucsfan.com/?p=8457

  27. Buccfan37 Says:

If I only had a clue of what Lovie is thinking about the draft.

  28. OAR Says:

Dilfer was all about Mark Sancheez then too! Too funny!!!

  29. OAR Says:

    Bucfan37
That’s what I think is funny is all these guys that think Lovie would even draft a QB with that pick. Lovie never drafted a QB that high. While in Chicago, he drafted the awesome QBs of Kyle Orton, Dan Lefevour, Nathan Enderle, and Craig Krenzel. Obviously, none were 1st round picks.

  30. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

“There is really no franchise quarterback in this draft, even though Mariota could go No 1. He’s not Andrew Luck, he’s not in that elite-of-the-elite category. Could be really good? If you’re patient with him.” – Mel Kiper.

He also said Winstons off field issues basically keep him from being a franchise QB. So what I gather from pundits and fans is that no Winston even though he is head & shoulders above every other QB because of off field issues, crazy. So once Winston is drafted he will start smoking crack, beating women, killing people, become a locker room cancer, and hang out with Johnny Football. Ridiculous, just ridiculous

  31. Nybucsfan Says:

We need to draft a QB in the first round or lovie will not have a job going into 2016 drafting a young QB with promise buys him another year to build. If you don’t have a QB in the NFL your not going to win

  32. SSG Mike Says:

I don’t know if I would ever consider Dilfer an Icon. Perfect example of how a Really Excellent Team that was well balanced made an Average at best QB a Super Bowl winner. If maybe Doug Williams or someone like that gives thoughtful analysis and an endorsement, I would accept it. Dilfer not so much. Let’s wait until the likes of Aikman, Bradshaw, Young amongst other REAL icons make some sort of statement or analysis before jumping the gun here. I still say Caveat Emptor.

  33. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

    Mariota

  34. Bucnut2 Says:

If filter is so smart, why isn’t he a gm. Another bucs icon herm Edwards predicted a super bowl win for us.

  35. Bucnut2 Says:

    dilfer

  36. Bucnut2 Says:

People forget the level of competition Winston plays, it’s aweful. Against a poor sec team Florida he throws 4 of the worst pics you’ll ever see!

  37. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Bucnut, don’t you know anything Winston does is not his fault? He threw a ball 500 yds when he was a 5th grader….a 5th grader! He is awesome.

  38. Bucnut2 Says:

Well Winston is going to be a overrated bust in the nfl. Throwing windows are much tighter and he doesn’t have the maturity to put the time in. We draft him highly we set the franchise back 5 years. Think freeman!

  39. Zam Says:

Baseball threat would keep me from blowing a #1 on him. What are you going to do, take him at his word, like Publix?

  40. Nybucsfan Says:

I love how people can say he will be an overrated bust. Lol I’m not saying he is luck but what make you a pro scout? You Have no idea what he will be. He has a shot to be way better than the Quarterbacks we have now

  41. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

I don’t think Winston will be a bust. He could be like Palmer or a serviceable back. Then again he could try hard and be very good in the NFL. I just don’t see it this year. He should seriously consider staying another year. If and that is a big if…but if they win another championship he will definitely come out and will get picked in the 1st round.

  42. Stu Laake Says:

M & M (i.e. Vinny Testaverde) has no dawg in him whereas JW has dawg in him both on and off the field, fortunately and unfortunately…give me the on the field dawg with the hope that the off the field dawg grows up quickly.

  43. 87ForJameisOrMariota Says:

Winston wins a Super Bowl within 3 years of entering the NFL. Mark it down.

  44. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Mariota sweeps the college awards and will take home a Heisman here soon. Next up…National Championship. How many people think OSU beat Bama? I hope they do, but Bama essentially has 2 home games with these playoffs.

  45. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Winston isn’t winning a superbowl in 3 years. Wilson won a superbowl, but if Luck can’t win a superbowl in 3 yrs….well, then there is no way that Winston does.

  46. 87ForJameisOrMariota Says:

    @Skyline

3 years. Remember where you heard it first.

OSU and Bama is going to be a good game. Check that a grrrreat game.

Mariota is going to run over FSU and I don’t expect the Noles to be able to keep up. I think the Noles lose bad in this one.

  47. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

    87′,

I have to wonder about OSU though. 3rd string QB did dominate Wisconsin, but this is the big stage and his 2nd game?. Going to loud as well. Remember pretty much a home game for Bama.

  48. Dave Says:

I’d be fine with Mariota or Winston. Both can do it all. Mariota is more of a pocket passer than someone like RG3, they just design runs for him in college, so he does not scare me. Mariota would be my first choice just because he has the arm, maturity, skills, can scramble, etc….
Winston though, is capable of being an elite NFL QB. He showed that last year. This year he is starting slow every game but then getting better. Alot of distractions going on and yet still undefeated.
I would love a slight trade down for another high pick and get Winston if he tumbles a little.
    Otherwise, take Mariota.

Either way, it is should a drastic improvement over what they have now so lets not get too bent out of shape over one or the other!!!!

  49. Howard Cosell Says:

    Lovie will draft linemen.

  50. Dave Says:

    SKYLINE—-
OSU does not stand a chnace against Bama. I don’t like either team, I just don’t see it.

The Ducks vs FSU is the title game IMO

I think Ducks win it all

  51. 87ForJameisOrMariota Says:

Howard Cosell…NOT if the Glazers have anything to say about it.

  52. Howard Cosell Says:

I’ve come over to the dark side.
I want to draft a QB too, but Lovie will draft linemen.

I am a lineman for the bucs team
and I drive the play home
searchin in the trenches for another open hole

    * Unfinished Business…What happens when casual conversation becomes serious? *

Based off Previous Reports, and the current injury situation Arizona with Arizona’s quaterbacks Palmer & Stanton. Could Licht & Keim rekindle talks concerning a possible Glennon trade?

    Previous Reports….

    Wed, Apr 24, 2013
*Source: NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah on Twitter

“could see” the Cardinals taking NC State QB Mike Glennon with the No. 38 pick.

*Source: ESPN’s Chris Mortensen stated on NFL 32
    • Tuesday that he believes the Cardinals are targeting NC State QB Mike Glennon in April’s draft. Previous rumors linked the Cardinals to Matt Barkley, but Barkley’s weak arm would be a poor fit in Bruce Arians’ scheme. Glennon has a cannon.

“I really believe the guy they’re hoping to get somewhere, whether it’s in the second round … is Mike Glennon,” said Mort. “Their new head coach, Bruce Arians, likes big guys with big arms who can get the ball downfield.” Arians could use Drew Stanton as a short-term quarterback stopgap while bringing along a rawer prospect like Glennon. He could be there at the 38th overall pick.

    *Source: Yahoo’s Mike Silver
    • Confirms the Cardinals still have “some interest” in NC State QB Mike Glennon despite the additions of Drew Stanton and Carson Palmer. Palmer isn’t a long-term solution at age 33, and Stanton is a career backup, even if Bruce Arians loves him. Glennon would give Arizona a potential long-term franchise quarterback. Despite the Cardinals’ flurry of signal-caller movement, they shouldn’t be ruled out as a likely destination for early-round passers. They’re just not going to draft one with the seventh overall pick.

*Source: Jason Licht talked to Fox Sports 910 in Arizona
Mentioned that they had had some “casual conversations” about trading Mike Glennon to the Arizona Cardinals, where Jason Licht worked last year under general manager Steve Keim.

“”We had several teams that were investigating what our thoughts were and what are plan was for Mike [Glennon], and our plan was that we were going to keep Mike,” Licht said. “I talk with Steve [Keim] quite often, being a very good friend of mine, one of my closest friends and mentors and working with him last year. We talked about Mike, but I wasn’t going to let him bully me into taking the quarterback. No, I’m kidding. Just casual conversations. I know Steve has always had a lot of admiration and respect for Mike, but we do as well and he’s not getting him.”

Who knows, we might be able to get a 3rd pick for the kid.
