Math On The Bucs’ Elimination

Lovie Smith will have to sing a new tune

Joe’s got the fresh, hot math.

You can stop the wacky Bucs-in-the-hunt talk.

New Orleans traveled to Pittsburgh and knocked off the Steelers today. And Atlanta buried the mighty Cardinals at home behind a monster day by Matt Ryan.

Tampa Bay is out of it right now, barring a tie in the Falcons-Saints game on Dec. 21.

Both the Saints and Falcons are 5-7, and if their upcoming head-to-head matchup has a winner, then that’s at least a sixth victory for one of those teams. The best the Bucs can finish is 6-10, but even if they did, they would lose any division-title tiebreaker with the Saints and Falcons.

So Tampa Bay is toast.

Joe sure hopes Lovie Smith smells the stink and plays young players. It’s time to see what rookie tackle Kevin Pamphile can do. He showed a little spark in his limited action earlier this month.

Don’t even get Joe started on Mike Glennon, Mike James and others.

So. You’re saying we still have a chance.

  2. Buccfan37 Says:

Lovie will do what he does best. Lovie will stay the course and ignore outside voices who suggest otherwise.

  3. tgreg Says:

    Lovie’s a moron

  4. John Sapp Says:

What an insult to NFL fans if a playoff scenario has a 7-9 or a 6-10 NFC south team host a wild card game. My how the once mighty and proud NFC south has fallen.

  5. WalkdaPlank Says:

I’ll ask again, Joe. Are you behind this annoying black ad bar for mobile users? Because it sucks ass.

Behind? Yes, Joe’s “behind” this alleged evil you call an ad bar. Comes from Joe’s affiliation with Yahoo!–Joe

  6. JJV Says:

In Lovie We Trust. The future is bright with him as our leader. Stay confident fans. We are getting better. Lovie says so therefore we believe.

  7. Tye Says:

1 horrible HC hire + 1 blunder GM hire + 1 bad DC hire + 5 poor o-line men choices + 1 starting a backup QB blunder + 1 dreadful looking uniforms choice = LOSING

    Got it!

  8. SteveK Says:

    Tye,

Don’t forget the hypocrisy from the local media.

Schiano had A LOT more obstacles to overcome and still had us in a better position then Lovie has, but “it takes time” for Lovie.

I just wish we’d be in year three of Schiano right now, we’d be in the hunt.

  9. Phred Says:

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

  10. JJV Says:

Lovie just needs more time. He gets a mulligan this year because he deserves it. It has been said we shall be revelant once again. We are comforted by his words.

  11. WalkdaPlank Says:

Does it have to go all over the screen and constantly pop back up every time we refresh or go to another page? Whatever, Joe it’s your site but damn is it an annoyance.

  12. bucrightoff Says:

We needed to get Chip Kelly, instead it’ll be Schiano/Lovie/???, and at this point I don’t even wanna know what ??? is. I just wish we got Chip instead.

  13. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Schiano’s Bucs > Lovie’s Bucs

  14. Shawnbucfan Says:

Is he cheating on you? No the whole team is cheating us out of hard earned money ….

  15. Bucamania Says:

I hope Lovie clicks on the #1 Method To Be Organized. Lol

  16. JJV Says:

You have to appreciate the plan Lovie has put in place. All his decisions and actions have set a course that shall lead us. He will stay that course because he knows it worked in the past. After finding himself during a year in basement’s solitude and reflection, the Glazers have chosen wisely. How can we not feel at peace knowing this ?

  17. BirdDoggers Says:

Lovie should finally quiet down about the playoff hopes. Although, he seems dilusional and probably thinks his team is playoff bound.

  18. Another J Says:

Tye your math is good, but you forgot to add 1 terrible offensive coordinator to the equation.

  19. BucFan20 Says:

But in his mind we will be the backup wild card team. One of the teams could be going to the Pro Bowl.

  20. ruggyup Says:

Get to the point. Final responsibility for this team(?). They are the controlling force, they have the control over management selection and with that, the responsibility to evaluate, measure and hold their choices accountable. Saying, “there are many things to consider” is an owners’ admission of their own incompetence and deserves a public media debate with a call for thoughtfully advised change. Admit it it, our beef is with the Glazers. They OWN the fans team.

  21. passthebuc` Says:

Who cares about Lovie. He won’t do the right thing, his ego overrides his decision making

  22. Mr. Patrick Says:

If Lovie comes out again tomorrow and says “We’re still in it” I think I’ll puke

  23. ihateloviesmith Says:

green bay and new England, what a wonderful display of professional football, players and coaching alike. and let us not forget peyton and the bronco’s. reminds one of the day, when tampa had such a good club and coaching, on both sides of the ball. when our franchise QB would lead us to TD after TD and our defense would smother the life out of our opponents like a anaconda that has not fed in a month. oh what the hell, sounded good anyway, did it not? hope everyone had a great thanksgiving, everyone but you lovie. another fine display mr smith of total ineptitude, thank you. green bay has the lambeau leap. we have the ray jay regurgitation! and after this horrific display of coaching, I think I will go throw up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This reminds me of me last season.

Where was the math when that cheap snake oil salesman was peddling Trash McSuck to the fan base back in March thru August?

No, last year the Bucs at least won at home 3 times. Obviously we are looking at a bagel in the W column this season; probably the first team to do that since the Lions went winless back in ’08 or so…. As soon as the Glazers see the season ticket renewals dry up after this season they should hold L&L to account for allowing so many close losses to occur as simply winning a few of the home games would have been a positive boost to the RJS fans…. I count 3 games minimum @ home Lovie and his coaching staff lost: Rams, Vikes, Bungles and certainly Carolina could be thrown in the mix though that was essentially a McNown solo project…. As bad as the Bucs are, they are a few 2010 rah lucky breaks (or one less coaching mistake by O’Dea, Arroyo, Lovie or Frazier) from actually being in the playoff hunt at 5-7 or 6-6, laughable but true. Sure the 2010 team was smoke and mirrors, but they did energize the fan base a bit; this trainwreck of 2014 is gonna bring back the blackouts! Watching a 10-6 product is much better than trying to back this crap L&L have hoodwinked us with. Perhaps the first L could can the second L; that’s an idea that I have not seen but should since Licht did blow up the OL and make all these poor FA signings.

    Sounds like Kafka’s lucky day!

  28. Please Says:

Yeah Joe, can you cut out all the ads actually and just charge us all $15 a month to read the site?

  29. DB55 Says:

    @please

    Whoa! Slow down there chief.

@joe ty for a great site.

  30. Famous Jameis or Bust Says:

    Paid sites don’t work.

Joe would lose his whole fanbase if he did that.

Besides… Tampa fans are the cheapest in the NFL.

  31. DB55 Says:

Playoffs?! Playoffs?!? You guys are funny.

Today our pink (see chicago game hats worn on sidelines, but it’s nov.) fluffy unicorns had so much fun dancing on rainbows they forgot how to line up and run a play. It’s fun to prance and frolic on the rainbows, annoying to be competent enough to kick a fg. Lol oh boy.

For a second there I could have sworn I seen Lovie choke-up during the pc. I thought oh lawd now the hc gonna cry on tv. His eyes got glassy n he lost his pitch. Ha. That’s just funny man.

  32. IdahoBucsfan Says:

I can only imagine a team looking less well managed! This year would have been Much better had we given Schiano a 3rd year to establish his team and learn from his rookie mistakes. When I watch this year, the announcers constantly talk about “all the injuries” while Last year, (when we really did have a remarkable number of injuries) hardly a word about it,.. always talked about bad this or that and always the coaching. I suspect that if Schiano didn’t have the team do the Victory formation D-fence we would still have him and be in first place in the division this year!

  33. mikeh Says:

    @DAVEPEAR- too! funny man lmfao…….

  34. Fort Myers Dave Says:

IdahoBucFan: I think that victory formation D-fence also got the Bucs on the NFL and zebra $h!t list. Bucs never really got any decent calls but since Greggy tried to blow up the sacred starting qb for a large market NFL franchise in the Meadowlands, well its pretty obvious the Bucs have felt the repurcussions…. Maybe I am off the mark but I am sure Roger G probably had a few choice communiques after that incident when baby Manning got shaken up a bit and Greg S raised the ire of the media….
