“Who Do We Have That’s Tough?”

October 23rd, 2014

Clinton McDonaldTwo days prior to Gerald McCoy’s brutally harsh words this afternoon, a former Buccaneer lashed out on his beloved team.

“Who do we have that’s tough?” he asked.

The question and accompanying tirade was from ex-Bucs guard Ian Beckles, co-host of Ron and Ian on WDAE-AM 620, the Buccaneers’ flagship station.

You can enjoy the audio below. Among other takes, Beckles was pleading for Vincent Jackson or Gerald McCoy to stand up and be leaders and call out teammates on their toughness. Well, it happened today. Beckles was sort of saying it’s not enough to talk like nice guys and they try to act like animals on Sundays.

Joe’s really not sure who is “tough” on the Bucs defense outside of McCoy and Lavonte David. And two tough guys aren’t enough to be a winner in the NFL.

    Joe

Is this due to the change in rules that cost the HAWK a lot of money and game suspensions not to mention the penalties?

  2. willie.D Says:

Eric page is Toledo tough and we all saw him take monster hits and hold on to the ball last year. he averages 2.5 yards more per punt return then the new guy

    Who’s tough?

    Other than Hawaii, I’d say:

David – 14 tackles 10 solo 3 weeks in a row. Talking about carrying a team.
McDonald – dude is playing his heart out with no help from his neighbor.
Gholston – kid has a motor and is always around the ball.
Lasagna – does not appear soft. Plays well.
    Banks- kid played with Sars
Barron – may not have many ints but can put anyone on their a$$
Goldson – the one dude on this team I wouldn’t mess with.
Mankins – slow but tough as nails played w torn acl
Glennon – how he keeps getting back up after some of these free blitzers crush him is impressive.
    Mike James – tough runner
Vjax – constant professional who play through the pain. Plays w broken wrist

    Ice cream team:
    Frazier – like warm butter
Lovely – he’s a tough guy to the media but on the field he lets opposing coaches run up the score at half time w a smile on his face
    Mike Johnson – self explanatory.
GMC – mr ice cream man himself. Oh man hand hurts I can’t play, oh I’m being double teamed, oh the qb only takes 3 step drops. Oh oh oh we have to play better. Let me help you up. Lololololol

I realize it is WAY to early to say this but I don’t think
the BUCS are going anywhere under L&L. I still believe there is enough talent on this team to be better than 1-5. I simply don’t see the fire and passion that it takes to win. Do you see the passion in any of our players…including GMC and Lavonte like a Ray Lewis or JJ Watt has? Do you see the passion or fire for the game that Mike Tomlin has? I think in the spring this team was over estimated and it is starting to show. We have four weeks of teams that we can play with…after that look out… A talk show today asked if you were going to pick a draft of BUCS players and needs if you were starting a team and the consensus was that our QB slot is no where near the top of our priorities. I give Dallas all the credit for their last three drafts..they may well be in the Super Bowl..and this is drafting in the middle of the first round! Our 1-2-3 drafts have mostly been busts..don’t need to point them out. I will watch the Minn. game..if they get beat I am done for another year…and hope…

joe you can be a good player and still be kinda soft. blake griffin comes to mind and he didn’t step up until he got called out in the playoffs. McCoy and David are clearly the best defensive players we have but the are skilled. If you play football at any position you have to be tough to make it to this level but tough hard mean players your not gonna tell me those two guys are the hardest players we have because then you just reinforce how weak this team is

Skill, stats, tackels, and and talk are worlds different than toughness. David is the SOLE guy on this team that I would define as tough. However, he’s quiet as a barn mouse… just like jackson, just like glennon, just like Martin, just like Mankins, just like barron/goldson, just like Foster….. etc etc etc….

I was listening to Goldson’s show the other day and he Lane asked who on the team was vocal/who gets everyone going, and then he led him off with a few different names. Each person, Goldson said “WHEN he talks, you know it’s TIME.”
That says to me that everyone is looking around at the person next to them because its just not their character to be a leader.
We don’t have a leader and we have negative “swag”! I’ll say it too: McCoy, soft as the quilted picker upper.. He’s the king of looking for the man next to him. Hey McCoy, who name me another guy playing that D line next to Watt… and there’s only 2 other guy one the line with him.

This draft, i don’t care what position it is, but we get a bad mama jama that don’t take no crap from no one!

Jeff Garcia…one of my favorite Bucs. He played his ass off no matter what and I’ll never forget that game against San Diego when Quentin Jammer knocked his block off. There was no penalty. It was good tough football. And did Garcia cry like a bitch? NO! He gave everything he had while his face was leaking like a faucet. If Brees or Kaep got hit like that OMG stop the game! How dare you! LoL.

This time makes a few splash plays but there is no pride in this team. Sure Mark Barron knocks someone out but then he gets burned for a 40 yard td. I rather have him make a soft tackle but not let the 40 yard post play burn right past him. Outside of Lavote David our LB’s are weak very weak. In any event this teem needs a serious kick in the ass in every position. Outside a very few e
