Michael Johnson weighs in

Joe hates driving fans another step closer to an insane asylum visit, but the truth must be told.

As bad as the Bucs’ pass rush was last season, it’s worse this season.

The big focus of the offseason free agency, improving the pass rush, has not proven successful.

Tampa Bay was sackless again today in their 48-17 beating by the Ravens.

The Bucs have just nine sacks in six games and are on pace for 24 this season. That’s a whopping 11 fewer sacks than in 2013.

Big-money defensive end Michael Johnson was saddened in the locker room after the game by the Bucs’ getting a whoopin’.

“They jumped out on us so fast. It looked like they had a real good plan of attack. They came out and hit us in the face,” Johnson said. “We gotta be able to stand up to that, and we didn’t do that today. So they jumped out early and took control early and never really relinquished the stronghold of that.”

On the Buccaneers Radio Network, Lovie Smith hinted that Lavonte David might need to be called upon more to rush the passer. Blitzing, of course, means giving up on the four-man rush, a hallmark of the Greg Schiano regime.

Schiano didn’t want to run stunts anymore than the next coach – BUT he had no choice to get something out of this abysmal line. Sorry, but Gerald McCoy isn’t worth $15 million/year when there are so many holes in this defense.

  2. Desanova Says:

    Bring back Youngry.

  3. WalkdaPlank Says:

    In the words of DallasBuc:

Do-no-wrong Lovie and his lapdog GM Jason Licht coming through on another awesome FA deal.

    *applause*

  4. AnotherJ Says:

The defense did a good job of making Flacco look like a pro-bowler today.

  5. lurker Says:

so is revis more than, less than, or equal to a. verner and m. johnson?

  6. lurker Says:

ps isn’t flacco a probowler and superbowl winning qb?

  7. CB Buc Says:

MJ90 is another guy that shouldnt be talking at all. If you aren’t contributing, STFU!

    Feel bad about your performance?
How about writing a check back to the team?

  8. RealityCheck Says:

LOL @ “plan of attack”. Yea, they ran the ball directly through you and then they threw the same slant pass repeatedly for touchdowns. It was such a brilliant plan.

  9. Florida Hillbilly Says:

Hey Lovie, how’bout you take your boys over to Polk County Fair there to watch the 4-H 5th graders tackle those greased pigs, just maybe you and your boys can learn how to tackle!

  10. Buccfan37 Says:

The superlatives of stink, stank and stunk can’t compare to the effort shown today.

  11. John McKillop Says:

I see better football every Friday night in pasco county, this is pathetic.

  12. Oahubuc Says:

You won’t drive most of us nuts by pointing out the truth, Joe. I suspect we are watching real football and having a good laugh at this trash. We’ve seen it before.

  13. No One Says:

Teddy Football will have a career day in a couple of weeks. Very depressing.

  14. NJBucsFan Says:

    Fire Lovie Smith

  15. Architek Says:

This team looks like Schianos mess!

  16. DB55 Says:

Where are bucstop, Hawaii and the rest of the “it takes time” “Lovie is a great defensive coach” crowd? Glennon sucks! Fire glennon! This is mccown country.

And for you so-called fans like lightning, you are absolutely ridiculous and have NO clue what you’re talking about. Geraldine mccoy is the best 3tech in the league because he is 7 feet tall, he shots fireballs from his eyes and lightning bolts from his arse. Doesn’t matter if he has 3 tackles two weeks in a row or 0 sacks in 2 games or runs out of gas in the 4th or gives up huge runs up the gut or can’t buy a sac. None of that matters lightning because it’s not his fault. He is a nice guy who picks up all his opponents off the ground after the play. And that is a REAL LEADER! #davidwho?

  17. Christopher Says:

Michael Johnson went up against a Udfa in James hurst and got blanked.

  18. richardtyson Says:

I could see many of you blaiming a coach for not leading a high school football team to victory against an NFL team.

  19. ufcguy Says:

I’ve never seen a team who can’t cover any receiver in the league I mean it’s freaking comical at this point. Hey lovie why don’t you jam the receiver so we can give the line some time or are you that soft that no one on this team can be physical? Your team is soft! What did u practice this whole off season? Your team is pathetic and the sad part is no one can step up and we went out and got notable players and still got garbage. We are cursed I’m convinced of it

  20. IdahoBucsfan Says:

I just have to wonder why lovie, the “experienced”coach, isn’t being treated as harshly as a Much Better Schiano (rookie head coach) by the media! I think it is about time to start talking “Hot Seat”!!! There must be a reason that the Bears fired him after a 10 win season. My guess it that the owners felt that any average coach could have gotten at least 12 wins out of that team!

  21. IdahoBucsfan Says:

(and ps. I don’t give a crap if lovie is a “nice guy”!)

  22. Brandon Says:

I don’t lay much of the blame on the DL this week. The secondary and LBs were awful in rerouting receivers and getting into passing lanes. The entire back 7 stinks, including David…and yeah, they might as well blitz him, he can’t cover for squat.
