Did Gerald McCoy Fire Back At Ian Beckles?

October 15th, 2014
Former Bucs guard wants to see more dog and less nice-guy out of Gerald McCoy

Former Bucs guard Ian Beckles wants to see more dog and less nice guy out of Gerald McCoy. The Bucs’ captain despises that line of thinking.

Man, former Bucs guard Ian Beckles sure is rankled by the sight — and thought — of Gerald McCoy helping opponents up off the turf.

Beckles also shares his festering frustration regularly to tens of thousands of Bucs fans listening to him on the Ron and Ian show, heard weekday mornings on WDAE-AM 620.

McCoy commented on those who question his style yesterday. And it sure seemed like his verbal blast was directed at Beckles.

(You can see video of McCoy’s take below, via TBO.com.)

Remember, McCoy dealt with this last year — from his own position coaches, Bryan Cox and Randy Melvin.

Here’s an excerpt of his 2013 reply to them:

“…They got upset with me because I helped somebody up [in the game.] So what! I don’t care. Kiss my butt. Listen, if I want to help somebody, I’m going help somebody up. Because right on the next play I’m going to knock him down again. It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter.

“That doesn’t change how hard I play. As long as in between the whistles I’m not helping anybody up, it doesn’t matter. So what if I help them off the ground? ‘Good job; we’re out here competing. But as soon as they snap the ball, I’m going to kill you again.’

“There’s nothing wrong with that. Everybody’s not like that. If you don’t want to be like that, keep it to yourself. I don’t care. I don’t go tell them, ‘Hey, you’re not doing this. You’re not doing that.’ I don’t care. Everybody does what they do. If I help somebody up, get over it. Get over it.”

  1. Architek Says:

This is the least bit of the Bucs issues – if GMC wants and sees it a part of his routine then so be it.

I’m more concerned about the execution of the scheme than the trivial items.

  2. Chef Paul Says:

Of all the things to complain about, about this team and defense, GMC helping people up is about 6 millionth on the list. How is this even an issue? DUMB!

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Since when is it a bad thing to display sportsmanship especially from one of the NFL’s best?
In a sportsworld of thugs, thieves, rapists, child abusers and female batterers….its good to have someone who shows class & leadership.

  4. Architek Says:

This would be a no story if we were winning.

This is what losing does – forces you to talk about things that normally are unimportant.

  5. HawaiianBuc Says:

I actually got the vibe that it was in response to the Commish’s article he wrote on Monday. I’m sorry, but this is the dumbest damn thing I’ve ever heard. Lee Roy Selmon helped people up all the time, and correct me if I’m wrong, but he was pretty good. There have been others. It’s one thing to criticize him for not playing well, it’s another for this. Between the whistles, McCoy is not a nice guy at all. But after the whistle, he’s a good man. The NFL would be a much better game if everyone played like him. I guess people would rather him be like Burflict and twist ankles? I totally understand why some players wouldn’t help people up. I’ve got no problem with that. You have to play this game with a certain level of anger, and it’s probably pretty difficult to turn that off and on. However, McCoy doesn’t have that problem. This is just getting petty at this point, and if we’re not careful, we really are going to drive him right out of
    Tampa.

  6. RastaMon Says:

I am waiting for L&L to help THIS team up !

  7. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Lee Roy Selmon used to help his opponents up all the time. He knocked them down all the time too. Seems only right.

  8. Ray Rice Says:

I don’t give a rats a$$ who he helps up. Because that will mean he would have had to put him down in the first place. Even better if its a QB. Two people I want to see Gerald put down are Sean “Fat A$$ Burger” King and piece of $hit Ian Beckles. Dude was a scrub when he played too.

  9. Chef Paul Says:

    Hawaiian is right.

He has enough reasons to not want to re-sign with this sh!t hole, dumpster fire of an organization. Now he has to deal with the absolute most petty, childish, criticism a person could think of.

If I was him, I’d take the very first available train out of One Buc I could find. It’s total BULLSH!T!!

  10. Joe Says:

You know what is funny to Joe? The greatest villain to play college football since Brian Bosworth, America’s quarterback Jameis Winston, does the same thing with tacklers.

Last week against Syracuse, Winston freight-trained a guy and Winston stood over him with hand outstretched wanting to help him up. When it was clear the guy wasn’t getting up, Winston waved to the Syracuse bench for the trainers.

NOT ONCE has Joe heard, “That no good SOB Winston is helping opponents up. He should be kicked in the nuts! Throw him off the team!”

Yet when GMC does it, people freak out.

    Why?

  11. Ray Rice Says:

    @Hawaiian

What do you have to say about Geralds self assessment? All day yesterday you argued against it. I even told you, ” no excuses there comes a point in time where he has to make a play. The great ones do.” He said himself. So, yes I compared him to JJ Watt because Gerald is considered by many that elite. Watt gets double teamed as well. He plays inside and outside. He has no help either. But he finds a way. Gerald has some ways to go. Not saying he’s not elite but not worth the $ he will ask (as of now).

  12. DWE Says:

Ray Rice did not help his fiancé up after he decked her in the elevator and she still married him. lol just kidding, but serously I just wish everyone on the defense were helping up offensive lineman, running backs and QBs on a regular basis.

  13. Jonny 2.3 Says:

I am glad GMC fired back. Ian Beckles wasn’t 1/10th the player McCoy is in between the whistles. He should not criticize what GMC does after a play ends.

  14. DB55 Says:

When a qb lays a dude out and helps him up its funny and should be done as often as possible. Sapp used to help Farve off the ground all the time, that was awesome.

My question is why did he mention his family. No one has said anything about his personal life as it is and should be completely OFF LIMITS. But as one fan replied to him on Twitter (paraphrasing) if you can’t take this type of critism you’d never make it in major markets like NY or Chicago. Trust me he wouldn’t fans are brutal in NY. Sure even jeter hears it from fans when called for.

Can somebody take some ice cream and chocolate to Geraldine at 1bp? I think he having a bad day.

  15. Patrick in VA Says:

@joe – Because FSU isn’t getting curb stomped while Winston is helping the opposition up. I honestly don’t care about this topic at all but I have to think that while the team is looking for something to indicate that the team and its players actually care about the game then things like this get them upset.

  16. biff barker Says:

Actually I think it works to GMC’s advantage.

  17. DB55 Says:

    @patrick

Best thing I’ve ever seen you post.

@joe – Because FSU isn’t getting curb stomped while Winston is helping the opposition up.

And that my friends some it up.

  18. Buc1987 Says:

I’m not McCoy. If I was I would never help the opposing teams players up. Let them get up themselves. I’m talking about the fatigue factor. I would want to wear the opponent out as much as possible and having them get up on their own seems as though that would be apart of it. Maybe I’m wrong considering this never crossed any of your minds.

Your first thought is to defend GMC like he’s family.

Here ya go buddy your kicking the sh*t out of us 28-0 in the first quarter let me help you up. I don’t want to tire you out or anything.

Now everyone of you can jump down my throat…good morning.

  19. Buc1987 Says:

I’m with Patrick too…now that I saw his post.

  20. bucrightoff Says:

Playing with crappy linemates has affected GMC’s play. Helping guys up off the ground? Not a chance.

And I already mentioned it but here we are again, blabbing about non-issues when the disaster of this team go ignored. We need to stop caring about small petty issues and focus on seriously building this team.

  21. Buccfan37 Says:

Some topics draw a blank, this is one of them.

  22. D-Rome Says:

As long as in between the whistles I’m not helping anybody up, it doesn’t matter

    Agreed. This is a non-story.

  23. FanOfBucs Says:

    McCoy is the man.

    Go Bucs!

  24. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @Ray Rice,

That’s exactly what I expect Gerald to say. Would you want or expect him to say the things I said? He is taking responsibility like a leader should. Doesn’t mean I was wrong. And again, he’s not JJ Watt. He’s great, but he’s not JJ Watt great. JJ is on a whole other level.

  25. FanOfBucs Says:

If you listen to Beckles on the radio, right away you’ll hear a guy that should focus more on his career and what he himself is doing, and not Gerald, a young man, that is a much better player than Beckles could dream of.

  26. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @1987,

I sat third row at the game. Not once did I see McCoy help anyone up. Certainly not up 28-0. I did, however, see him running off the field screaming in pain on several occasions. This “helping people up” argument is blown way out of proportion. It’s as if he’s walking around the field looking for guys to help up. This is too ridiculous for words.

  27. HawaiianBuc Says:

This is a lame argument fake tough guys want have against Gerald. It doesn’t make you a good football player or a bad football player for helping a guy up once in a great while. How many times have any of you actually seen him help someone else up? You can lie all you want, but unless you’re watching all22 every week, your answer would probably be a very small number, if not zero. Instead of listening to a talking head on the radio, watch for yourself.

I also wonder how much criticism Reggie White got for helping guys up?

  28. DB55 Says:

    Hawaii

Did u have your binoculars. That’s exactly what he was doing looking for people to help up. Not to mention he got crushed by Zuttah it’s was funny. He did a spin move and Zuttah was right there waiting. Popped him so hard right in the mouth he almost fell right on his ass. Funny stuff man.

  29. Buc1987 Says:

I don’t think it’s a non-story if Beckles thinks of it as a player not having enough fight in him. If GMC was producing like a mad man the 1st 6 games there would be no problem with it from Beckles. I would imagine that’s the point he’s trying to make. Where’s the fight in you “between the whistles”? And then you help opposing players up? I can see how that looks bad.

If he was producing like the player he’s been compared to the last few years Warren Sapp, then no one would say a peep. But he’s not and so far this season all he’s been is another Buccaneer EXCUSE maker. One excuse after another from McCoy. It happens daily. Then I see the regulars come into the thread and defend him like a brother. McCoy says jump and you all say how high?

He’ll make excuses if they lose to Vikings too and his stats could be paltry. Joe will write another article about what McCoy had to say about the Vikings game
loss. He’ll say the team has to play better and blah blah blah blah. Then you guys will sprint into the comment section and come to his defense.

I can see it now, because it’s been happening all season… Enough with YOUR excuse for this guy already. His play has not matched his mouth this season.

  30. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @DB55,

I was on the third row, didn’t need binoculars. I don’t know why you would think that would be funny, but whatever. I guess no good players ever get blocked well???

  31. Buc1987 Says:

If his play is not matching his mouth….why all the defense lawyers in here?

  32. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @1987,

What excuses has McCoy made? He took full responsibility for the defense, even though EVERYONE knows otherwise. You compare him to Sapp, but I have a feeling you never even saw Sapp play.

Who did he help up? Who? When? You just listen to Beckles like he’s a god or something. He’s the most agenda-driven guy on the radio, and that includes Duemig. Please try to argue that with me.

It doesn’t even matter, because you aren’t going to open your eyes. It’s fans like you that are going to be sorry if he leaves us. You probably wanted Revis gone too. How is that working out?

  33. HawaiianBuc Says:

“If his play is not matching his mouth”

    —-

What is he saying? Is he calling reporters over telling them how great he is? You just pull sh!t out of your arse so you can feel relevant.

  34. Buc1987 Says:

HawaiianBuc …are you ready to make excuses for him after the Viqueens game? If he does squat and the Bucs lose to the Vikings. He’ll tell reporters he’s trying and the double and triple teams are killing him…blah blah blah.

Do you have your excuses ready for him after that game yet?

Perhaps you should prepare some and get them ready. Maybe use the “he has no supporting cast” excuse like you’ve been using so far this season. It’s not his fault blah blah blah.

  35. Buc1987 Says:

What has been saying??? Do you want me to pull up all the McCoy excuses? I can find some he just said the other DAY! and the day before that on and on.

Every week there’s new excuse. Now your trying to tell me you never read any?

“Guys were not where they were supposed to be” is an example.

But If I get the time I’ll gladly go and find you plenty of stuff (excuses) he’s said after each game this season outside of the Pittsburgh game.

  36. Buc1987 Says:

Dude he’s like a broken record this season. Put up or shut up.

“I was getting doubled like crazy out there today”

On and on the excuse train goes.

  37. DB55 Says:

    Hawaii

When I get home tonight I’ll post the time markers so you can see what he’s doing out there since you didn’t see him from your third row seat.

  38. Buc1987 Says:

HawaiianBuc..how much did you pay for your McCoy jersey?

  39. DB55 Says:

    87

To his credit (I guess) mccoy’s not the softest on the team. MJ holds that title all by himself. #Undisputed

And then on the opposite side of the spectrum are David, Barron and Mankins. I heard they eat nails for breakfast.

  40. DB55 Says:

    Joe

Thanks for the laughs. Love this site!!!!

  41. Zam Says:

it’s not like they are little old ladies you accidentally knocked down. You can still be respectful, but why go out of your way to keep the opponent less tired?

    That’s a luxury a team of losers can’t afford.

  42. bucrightoff Says:

We should dump GMC this offseason just to see if we can field the worst defense in the history of organized football: college, pro’s, CFL, Arena, Europe, Lingerie, whatever.

  43. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Alright, whatever. Run him out of town. He’s terrible.

  44. Buc1987 Says:

bucrightoff…give it time THIS season is still young. McCoy is still on the team and they might match everything you just mentioned.

  45. DB55 Says:

    Bucrightoff

    Too late. Already there

  46. Buc1987 Says:

Look this is a make it or break it year for McCoy. Of course he’s going to be on the defense about anything bad being said about him.

Right now, if McCoy were to sit on the bench while the D was out on the field.
How many of you would even notice the difference?

That’s a legit question too. I’m not talking about his past play or stats. I’m talking about this season. Answer with honesty too.

How many of you would even notice the difference?

  47. bucrightoff Says:

Actually that was my point. Without McCoy we’d be even worse. Without McCoy Drew Brees throws for 500 yards and the Saints get close to 700 for that game and probably score 55-60 points. So one of the few guys preventing us from being an even bigger embarrassment should not be getting slammed. There are more than enough players who deserve heat on that defense.

  48. DB55 Says:

True we’ lose by 42 rather than 32 so yes you have a good point.

  49. Buc1987 Says:

“Actually that was my point. Without McCoy we’d be even worse. Without McCoy Drew Brees throws for 500 yards and the Saints get close to 700 for that game and probably score 55-60 points.”

Those aren’t facts though. I’m dealing in facts. We never got see if that would be the outcome or not. McCoys been hurt before. Did they get shellacked in those games?

  50. Buc1987 Says:

This is his contract year. Have you seen him stepping up to the plate to hit home runs so far?

Last season was Freeman’s contract year. Did you see how he stepped up to the plate?

Do you see where I’m going with this?

If his production continues the way it is and he lands about 4 sacks and a handful of tackles this season. That means he’s going backwards to me. Sooo let’s pay the man to go backwards?

Check his stats at the end of this season. Then see if you want the Glazers to open there check book.

  51. Ray Rice Says:

If I remember right it was the RB he helped up after tackling him. He gained positive yards too. Bottom line if Gerald was producing the way everyone hypes him up to be (best DT in NFL) then he wouldn’t be getting such negative reactions. But he isn’t. And yes as a captain I expect him to take blame. The 3 technique is the catalyst of this defense. It all starts with him. If hes not getting it done then the “D” suffers. Same words Brooks, Lynch, Barber, Sapp, McCoy have said. The defense goes as he goes. No excuses. He even said its a defense built around the 3 technique and it allows him more flexibility and opportunities to make plays. I still haven’t seen it.

  52. bucrightoff Says:

No that’s pretty much a fact. No McCoy = no pressure = no Bress INTs
No pressure = even more time for Brees to pick apart the softest zone I’ve ever seen. Not a stretch to say his pass yardage total would be 25% higher.

Pure causality. McCoy is 99% of our pass rush. That’s more or less indisputable having watched this season. And that’s part of the reason this defense is unspeakably awful.

  53. DB55 Says:

With the 7th pick in the 2014 NFL draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Aaron Donald DT out of Pitt. AND THE CROWD GOES WILD.

  54. THETRUTH Says:

Reggie White and Leroy picked up players and it didnt affect their play !!!!!

If he acts like SUH we would be complaing he is to mean.

always something to complain about LOVIE SHOWS NO EMOTION WHAT KINDA COACH IS THAT!!! next breathe LETS HIRE DUNGY BACK (LESS EMOTION)

BUC FANS GET A GRIP, I DONT THINK THE FIRST YEAR THIS DEFENSE WAS INTRODUCED TO BUCS WITH DUNGY WE WERE TO GOOD ETIHER.

BROOKS, LYNCH(lynch was gonna quit and play baseball) . SAPP . Rhonde (was getting toasted the first yrs) had a learning curve.

i think we expect the same outcome and not realize these guys have only played this D for 5 games and they must lean as well

  55. Buc1987 Says:

bucrightoff …Hang your hat on the Saints game or Pittsburgh game. Check back with me at the end of the season at contract time to check his stats and we’ll see if he’s worth Warren Sapp type money. Right now I doubt it.

  56. buc4lyfe Says:

McCoy you’re not supposed to care cuz then we’d have Kleenex and Charmin lining up next to each other. It’s just the opinion of a guy who actually played on a bad team that got better, McCoy doesn’t know what winning football is and personally he should be to angry to help someone up while getting beat that badly, he should be helping his own teammates up cuz they were the ones worn out

  57. buctebow Says:

I think GMC should help his own teammates up instead…I think for one, that Glennon could sure use the assistance.

  58. Buc1987 Says:

    THETRUTH …really now?

I didn’t check the scores from those early games of Dungy (Lovie is NOT Dungy)but I doubt his team was down 28-0 in the first quarter. I doubt they took the pasting this team has been taking.

People keep holding onto what Dungy did during his first season and are expecting history to repeat itself. Too many of you are doing it. Which tells me you guts are all wrong. That was 1996 and I remember it very well. This is 2014 and Dungy is not the coach.

Lovie Smith is not Tony Dungy.

  59. sho nuff Says:

mcsniffles words bore me…hardy nickersons stomach must turn every time he whitness lady bing help another player off the ground…im sorry but we need some MEN on this team…im sick and tired of getting run over than our guys saying thank you after

  60. HawaiianBuc Says:

1987 is truly too stupid to understand how football works. he wants to look at stats, instead of understanding how the game works. No player can handle being double and tripled every game, especially when our ends can’t even get enough pressure to keep contain. That’s a fact, but one you will choose to ignore. He’s not a first team all pro for nothing. Teams have just figured out that you don’t need to pay ANY attention to anyone else. Absolutely none. If that continues, then yes, he’s not going to have stats. He’s not going to be effective. And to make matters worse, there’s no help in the back either. We can’t cover receivers for even one second. QB’s can go on 3 step drops and find guys wide open all day long. How many 5 step drops did Flacco have on Sunday? Nobody (and that even includes Watt and Sapp) can sack a QB while doubled on a 3 step drop. It’s just not possible. But again, your mind is made up. He’s not any good. That’s fine, but if he leaves, you’ll see exactly how good he really is. Better yet, when he gets on a team with help, you’ll see how stupid you are.

  61. Buc1987 Says:

I remember 96 very well, but I’m not going to suggest that it’s going to happen all over again with what we’ve seen so far. That’s fooling yourself.

How long before you “it takes time” fans are going to realize and this group my not cut the mustard?

If it’s it’s week 10 and our D is still getting pasted? Does the “it takes time” stop then? Perhaps week 12 or 14?

Perhaps even into next season fans will STILL be holding onto that line.

I hope Derrick Brooks comes out at some point in this season and tells you guys that this defense should be a lot better by now. Maybe that will help you along.

  62. Buc1987 Says:

HawaiianBuc….when his play matches his mouth this season. The I’ll stop.

I promise you this. I will HIGHLIGHT just for your ignorant self every time McCoy makes another excuse this season. I guarantee the excuses won’t stop.

We’ll probably see another on tomorrow…

We’re definitely going to see many after the Vikings game too and you’ll be in that thread too defending him with everything you got. Right after he did jack squat in the game.

The play does not match the mouth…

  63. Ray Rice Says:

    @Hawaiian

Gerald is not playing AP ball right now. And yes there are players who can handle being double and triple teamed every game. Watt, Suh, Atkins, etc… By the way NO TEAM doubles and triple blocks one player every play. Gerald had many 1v1’s that he didn’t win. Stop making excuses for him. I wish I could say “man that #93 is playing out of his mind right now.” But he’s not and as a captain (getting paid handsomely by the way) I expect him to look in the mirror. I understand the back end is lacking as well. But how many AP’s do we have? David and McCoy. Need more from both. You’re supposed to expect more from you’re leaders and best players.

  64. Buc1987 Says:

HawaiianBuc…my last names not Glazer. They’ll make the call for you and me. I’m sure they will look at his production this season and decide accordingly. Don’t you?

  65. Buc1987 Says:

    Thanks Ray…finally some back up.

  66. HawaiianBuc Says:

No he’s not playing All pro ball right now. Never said he was. But there is a reason for it. Call it an excuse if you must, but it is what it is. Flacco did a 3 step drop nearly every play, and was finding guys wide open. And yes, McCoy was doubled on EVERY single one of those plays. I’m not saying he’s playing wonderful, but he’s not the problem, not by a longshot. He’s playing with a broken hand as well, and he was screaming in pain leaving the field on several occasions. And yes, he uses his hands with his game, as did Sapp. Anyone care to argue that?

And why do you say he’s not looking in the mirror? He said himself he has to do better. He’s not using his hand as an excuse, and he’s not saying he shouldn’t beat double teams. Is it an excuse when he says Flacco was getting the ball out quick? I don’t see in what world that’s an excuse, but everyone now is just out for blood.

We have a lot of problems on this team. Maybe more so than I can ever remember. But players like McCoy, David, V-Jax are the least of our problems. It’s easy and makes people feel better to point at the big dogs, but it’s not always accurate.

  67. HawaiianBuc Says:

You guys just don’t know how bad we can be if we lose McCoy. You think it’s bad now, this ‘aint nothing.

  68. Buc1987 Says:

If McCoy steps up to the plate the rest of the season. Then I’ll give credit where credit is due. I’m not going by what he did last season or the season before that or “it takes time” for the rest of the team to figure out this defense.

Right now it’s all hogwash to me.

I’m one of the biggest Sapp fans on the planet. After the SB his play started to decline and his mouth didn’t match his play. I was ready for him to go at that point. I used to tell fans that all the time. The reason why Sapp had to go was his play and pay didn’t match his mouth anymore.

McCoy is far from Sapp when it comes to being mouthy and arrogant, but this season he’s had excuse after excuse for this defense. Then he goes out and does squat.

Gerald McCoy prior to Ravens game : “You don’t let someone come into your house and steal your remote control and change the channel”. That was Sapp-esque. When Sapp said stuff like this before a game. He came out a produced. Did he not?

  69. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @1987,

You want to point out excuses, I’ll do the same for you with your man crush Glennon. Funny how it’s okay to make excuses for him, but not McCoy.

  70. HawaiianBuc Says:

What part of “HE DOESN’T HAVE A SUPPORTING CAST” do you not understand? Sapp had a great supporting cast, and much much better coaching. He also played at a time when defenses were actually allowed to play defense. Sapp has said on numerous occasions that McCoy is better than him at the same point in his career. But what does he know?

  71. Buc1987 Says:

This is worth repeating over and over again…

Gerald McCoy prior to Ravens game : “You don’t let someone come into your house and steal your remote control and change the channel”.

The play does not match the mouth.

  72. Buc1987 Says:

    Sapp talks…A LOT!

  73. Lynch Says:

I’ve been critical of McCoy for the last two seasons. Unfortunately, the Bucs are an even worse team without Mccoy and the Bucs need him. It would be nice to see him make some splash plays, fight for every inch of blade of grass. Sadly, we will overpay him next year, simply because that’s what we do for players. lol

  74. Buc1987 Says:

Sapp said McCoy is better than him at this point in his career…

Which is hogwash and you know it.

    Sapp talks….A LOT!

Sapp said Freeman was going to be NFL MVP before the 2011 season.

    Sapp talks…A LOT!

Sapp said defenses don’t win championships.

    Sapp talks…A LOT!

  75. bucrightoff Says:

McCoy has not played with anyone close to as good as Sapp did in his prime. Bennett for a season and that’s it. Imagine if you gave McCoy an elite end like Sapp had with Simeon. Hell if you have him acceptable rushers he would be a terror. No one on that defense except LVD can protect McCoy and even he can’t being asked to do 19 things at once becaue of the supreme lack of talent this team has.

Dumping McCoy would be the same as Revis, we’d get 3 guys for the same money and assume we’re ahead, conveniently forgetting that 3-1 trade involved 1 elite player. We’re sort of barren as far as elite players go.

  76. HawaiianBuc Says:

You’re so ignorant 1987. Do you realize he has to do these interviews and radio shows? He’s not calling up the media running his mouth. I’m sure if he had his choice, he would mind his own damn business. However, it’s part of his job. He’s the face of the franchise. Do you want him to just get up there and talk like Bill Bellicheat? What do you want him to say? People like you are the reason players like Marshawn Lynch, Vincent Jackson, Ed Reed, etc. don’t like to talk to the media. Of course, they get criticized too. It’s a no win situation for them.

  77. DB55 Says:

    Breaking news:

Mccoy broke a nail today, will be out for the rest of the season.

  78. HawaiianBuc Says:

I swear, part of me hopes we lose McCoy, just to show dumb arses like 1987 just how good he is. He runs his mouth making excuses for Glennon, then talks like a tough guy when it comes to McCoy. “I want to see results, blah blah blah.” Looking back, are you glad we got rid of Revis? Pretty sure you were critical of him too. How’s he doing up there in Foxboro? How did you feel about letting Bennett go? He never had a double digit sack season, so why should we pay him? How’s he doing up in Seattle? And those guys aren’t even on McCoy’s level.

  79. DB55 Says:

I hate Revis. I was excited to see him go. He’s still getting burnt in NE. He had one decent game against an injured aj green but mike Wallace made him look silly, like Verner trying to hold jones. Wasn’t happening. At least from what I’ve seen this year. Revis is a straight B I A T C H. And I’m not so sure about the straight part.

  80. Buc1987 Says:

Gerald McCoy prior to Ravens game : “You don’t let someone come into your house and steal your remote control and change the channel”.

Yeah I realize he has to talk trash like this and not back it up. Keep up the good work Gerald.

bucright..Sapp was VERY productive before Simeon Rice (supporting cast) arrived.

I’m off for now. I can’t wait for the next McCoy excuse article to come out. to watch HawaiianBuc make up more excuses for his lack of decent play. It will happen, it’s been happening almost every week. This team should be 0-6 right now….

Can’t wait for excuses to come pouring in after a reporter puts a mic in face after the Vikings game.

That’s the only history that keep repeating itself. Same excuses every week.

  81. Buc1987 Says:

And damn you do the same thing for Vjax too…no accountability.

  82. HawaiianBuc Says:

And you do the same for Glennon.

  83. Buc1987 Says:

I don’t want to hear excuses from him one week. About he has to correct this or has to get better at that. Then go out the next week and do the same exact BS.

    Talk is cheap.

  84. Buc1987 Says:

Yeah the rookie QB I did.

  85. Buc1987 Says:

Brady makes his WR’s better. Glennon can’t do that. He’s not elite. He was a rookie. So when he has basically no weapons last season. That’s a viable excuse for a rookie QB thrown into fire of a crap storm of a season.

Lovie went out and got McCoy help did he not? Did he or did he not bring help?

  86. HawaiianBuc Says:

BUT HIS HELP ISN’T HELPING!!!!! You’re a special kind of stupid.

  87. HawaiianBuc Says:

I’m done wasting my time. If that makes you feel like you are right, then so be it. You are right, I am wrong.

  88. stevek Says:

I am loving the discussion between 1987 and Hawaiian on this thread.

A lot of really good points.

Bottom line, we are 1-5, and we suck. So,need to pick it apart.

Glennon is getting better, but will it be enough?

GMC is a PFF all star, but where are the splash plays? Why is the D so darn bad?

  89. flmike Says:

Lovie went out and got McCoy help did he not? Did he or did he not bring help?

Yeah, a sandbag to play RDE and McDonald, not much in the way of help…
If a team is only game planning to defend against one, thats ONE interior lineman, that tells you about your DEs…

  90. bucrightoff Says:

Jesus Christ, McCoy could be putting up the greatest season a DT ever would and the Bucs might (might be the critical word) have one more W on the board. This is one of the worst defenses ever, bar none. Would a couple more sacks a few more forced turnovers really matter when the rest of the defense is rancid?

  91. Buc1987 Says:

    stevek…our battles are legendary. lol

  92. Buc1987 Says:

When the play matches the mouth. Then I’ll stop. Until then expect more of the same, if you and GMC are going to keep throwing out excuses about what needs to be done and then next week not do it at all.

I know he has to answer questions. It’s part of his job. Does that mean I have to believe him? Apparently so.

Have another sip of GMC’s kool-aid it’s nice and tasty. He’ll serve up again next week. Drink it up.

  93. ddneast Says:

You guys haring on McCoy are really laughable. Last year, in a vote by his peers, he was voted No. 1 or 2 amounts all DT’s last year. He was even voted ahead of everyone’s darling, Suh from the Detroit Lions.
This really shows what a pack of uninteliigent, uninformed punks you really are.

  94. Lynch Says:

@ddneast- What did LVD peers think about him?

  95. ddneast Says:

Not as we’ll but he still came in in the top 100. That could be because David hasn’t been in the league as long and there are also a plethora of good linebackers to choose from.

  96. chris Says:

Silly to ever compare McCoy to Sapp. Did McCoy knock out two hall of famers on one play, like Sapp did? No. And that was before Rice got there, I believe it was the legendary Chidi Ahonotou that played end at the time. McCoy is overrated. He’s the captain of a record breaking shittacular defence. That’s like bragging you’re the captain of the Titanic. Do something McCoy. At least act like you’re pissed you’re getting chain whipped during the game. Let’s see the anger out there, start a fight, something .

  97. Brandon Says:

It takes energy by the opponent to get themselves off the ground, it takes energy away from us to help them up. Lots of coaches DO NOT tolerate helping opposing players up purely from the fact that you have to do everything you can to keep yourself fresh and tire the opponent.

  98. The Fox Says:

I think all Beckles was saying is that we don’t have any nastiness on the defense. There isnt a nasty player that is feared. I agree. What GMC did while it is sportsmanlike, isnt nasty. Suh is nasty (and dirty) – I am sure the opposition’s O-line dreads going up against him. I dont think he was asking GNC to be nasty, but someone has to be considering the fact that our D appears soft.

  99. The Fox Says:

For those of you who were in the military, know that there are drills where you must get up and get down – on command. It is called getting smoked.
40 snaps in a game a player will get smoked – doing nothing else…
At this point we need all the help we can get!

  100. Skyline Crew Says:

I just saw the E:60 with McCoy. Old Sapp was on there talking about how Suh is violent and that is what you need. However, McCoy said that he smiles and that is who he is. I got no problem with that. Consider this. We want to keep McCoy and the Lions are probably going to let Suh go because he is a dirty player.

  101. Buc1987 Says:

ddneast…oh again someones talking about LAST season. Do me favor talk about this seasons performance. Can you do that punk?

How good is McCoy this season???????????? I don’t care about last season anymore. Apparently you do. Let’s see where his peers rank him at the end of this season!

    The talk.

  102. Buc1987 Says:

Because THIS season so far. He’s playing like he doesn’t want that 15 million.

  103. Bogiedr Says:

Beckles, marginal guard at best, translation, shut the f&@$up. If the greatest Buc of all time, Mr. Leroy Selmon would take you down, help you up, then knock you on your butt again and again help you up … Ian, shut the f@$& up. Marginal dude at best. If you HAVE to remind people you lined up vs Reggie White, means no one remembers you fool. And if you dare criticize Mr. Selmon … Tells me all we need to know. Nobody criticized Leroy during his career, and those were really TOUGH dudes he played against, unlike some marginal players you played against!

  104. Teacher Says:

Beckles needs to go do a bufferd. Maybe cook himself a kiech. Or he can have a plate of Ron’s balls. This we know, he is not man enough to hold McCoys jock strap.

  105. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Beckles is a racist idiot.

  106. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Which was unrelated to this story, but still true.
