Unconcerned Which Lambs QB Plays

Bucs DT Akeem Spence is more concerned with how the Bucs play defense than which stiff starts at quarterback for the Lambs Sunday.

As Joe wrote already this morning, the Lambs quarterback situation is a complete and total mess. Sam Bradford is out for the season with another blown knee. His backup, former Detroit tight end Shaun Hill, was gruesome in the first half of the Lambs home opener against the Vikings and was benched at halftime hurt and replaced by some piece of cheese named Austin Davis, a three-year NFL veteran making his first regular season appearance.

Monday, the Lambs signed former Texans quarterback and NCAA passing record-holder Case Keenum.

So it isn’t unlikely that Lambs coach Jeff Fisher could start either of the three. Keenum has more starting experience than Hill or Austin, as he started eight games for the hapless Texans last year.

None of the above matters to Bucs defensive tackle Akeem Spence. Not only doesn’t he care who starts, Spence said it shouldn’t matter to the Bucs defense.

“All of their quarterbacks are pretty much drop-back guys,” Spence said. “You know where they are going to be in the pocket. Step-up guys and get rid of the ball. Not having Bradford, their go-to guy, sort of gives us an advantage. But at the same time, this guy (Hill) has been in the league I don’t know how many years. He’s a pro. He knows how to study. He knows film. He knows how to watch film. Knows how to execute the offense with his receivers. I don’t see it as a big deal. They practice just like we practice. I don’t see it as a [problem].”

Hill is in his 12th season in the NFL and has started 27 games, largely with really godawful teams such as the pre-Jim Harbaugh 49ers and the Lions.

If the Bucs fall to 0-2, beaten by a pair of ham-and-eggers like Derek Anderson and Hill/Austin/Keenum, it really doesn’t bode well for the rest of the 2014 season.

To be honest, Keenum actually scares Joe. Hill and Austin? Pppfffttt.

If it comes to coaching….Jeff Fisher has a LONG history tomenting Bucs !

Where is the confidence in our defense that you have had all offseason? With Michael Johnson and Mike Jenkins on the shelf it should be exactly the same as if they were healthy and starting. Where’s all the fear suddenly coming from?

i wish they would announce the starter, I need to get my fantasy roster set!

  4. Buccfan37 Says:

I’ll take some of Joe’s preseason confidence in the Bucs D over the newer St. Louis team come Sunday. RastaMon is right on about Fisher’s past beatdowns of the Bucs with the Rams, Titans and maybe Oilers.

How many shrimp recipes does Akeem Spence have ?….

  6. RastaMon Says:

Jeff Fisher as a Bears DB & punter returner too…

Another home game, another backup QB going against us.

Can we score before the 4th quarter this week, that’d be great.

If McCown comes out cold, expect to see the Cannon readying for deployment. I am telling you, Glennon can ball.

  8. The_Buc_Realist Says:

Spence is correct. If you do not have a pass rush, it does not matter who the QB is.

  9. BucTrooper Says:

    Of course they’re unconcerned.

They’re just as capable of losing to back-ups who barely have thrown a pass this decade as they are to seasoned veteran starters who went to the playoffs.

Unlike the other two slugs masquerading as quarterbacks on the Lambs roster, Keenum can actually throw the ball.

  11. WalkdaPlank Says:

Not worried too much about the defense, it’s the offense going up against the Rams D. Particularly Robert Quinn vs. Anthony Collins. Donald Penn did not fair well.

    LOL @Realist

    ….and true.

All the other QBs we face the remainder of the year can throw the ball too and are way better than Keenum. So where did all the confidence in the great Lovie defense go?

  14. DallasBuc Says:

Walkdaplank- what does Penn have to do with anything?

  15. Brandon Says:

Case Keenum is jealous of Brett Smith’s arm strength. The only people he scares are the people in St. Louis.

  16. WalkdaPlank Says:

@Dallas – Penn vs. Quinn last year

  17. Owlykat Says:

How much playbook is Keenum going to know in one week? Our secondary should be excited to get pick 6’s off of him.

  18. Capt.Tim,Back from Davie Jones's Locker Says:

You are right Joe. Keenum has flashed some real talent! Kinda hoped the Nucs would make a play for him, as we are also desperate at backup QB.

He can put a best down on a defense.

    I shall remain optimistic

  19. Oahubuc Says:

No, it doesn’t matter. Spence and the rest of them will do jack just like they did last week.
