“I Just Couldn’t Grip The Ball”

September 19th, 2014
McCownhand

Josh McCown and his wrapped thumb was a lonely spectator through the second half of the Atlanta massacre

The Buccaneers’ starting quarterback had a lousy night, threw a pick-6 and busted up his thumb.

After the game, McCown talked about that thumb, which opened the second Mike Glennon era.

McCown had a black wrap-type brace on his thumb and hand after the game. He explained to Joe and other media how he had no chance of returning after slamming during a play.

“I grabbed the ball on the sideline. I just couldn’t grip the ball, couldn’t open my thumb up to grip the ball,” McCown said.

Joe asked McCown if the Bucs primarily were beaten physically or did the previously shaky Falcons defense surprise them.

“No. We were ready to go,” McCown said. “We knew, you know, they were a better defense than they statistically suggested. We knew they’d be better here at home, too. We didn’t execute.”

McCown is right. The Bucs didn’t execute. They were executed.

McClown should retire with his beloved head coach lovie smith! Schiano’s team would have seal clubbed this team!

  2. DallasBuc Says:

Was that before or after the injury?

  3. DB55 Says:

Take Tedford n Frazier w you

  4. jo_mama Says:

Is anyone listenting to this Joke of a Post Game on 620?

Excuses up the A$$ blaming Special Teams.

And they are not taking any F@cking phone calls. Tweets only…….Face the Fans…….

At least Greg Schanio faced the fans along with the 2013 bucs.

    Accountability would be nice

  5. ManzielMadness Says:

@DallasBuc LOL! He looked like Randy Hedburg!!

  6. WalkdaPlank Says:

If I see McCown suit up as starter for another game this season I will simply not watch. Every single game this season he has hurt with stupid picks. Not even “oh the WR bobbled that” or “that was a great play by the DB”. No. These are straight up horrible throws, McCown is done. Glennon may not be a superstar but at least he knows a little something about the phrase “ball security”.

As I said earlier, if you truly believe Mike is your “QB of the future” then see what you have in him and give him the damn ball. He doesn’t work out then you know he is not the guy and you need to draft one. Knowing is half the battle.

  7. Architek Says:

You guys are so idiotic – referring to Schiano like he had a winning program. Bucs fans are very shallow but I don’t blame you we have nothing else but losing to endure.

  8. RealityCheck Says:

Another careless pathetic telegraphed interception prior to the thumb “injury”. Sorry, I’d much rather watch that newborn giraffe Glennon.

  9. DallasBuc Says:

I am not a member of the MGM by any means but would be shocked if McCown doesn’t happily retreat back to his natural position on the bench, doing mental reps from the sideline!

  10. BucIt941 Says:

Glennon was definitely an improvement over McClown. But didn’t look all that good either. Then again he had a team that already quit on the game.

  11. gotbbucs Says:

He’s just a bad QB. What else is there really to say. He holds on to the ball too long and he’s late on his throws in the middle of the field. A dozen years and six teams and they thought he was the answer?
This was the one signing I was terrified they would make as soon as I saw that Lovie was hired and it took all of one day of free agency to bring him in and name him the starter without a competition. Glennon isn’t going to be confused for a “franchise” qb anytime soon, but he seems to be light years ahead of mccown in this offense.

  12. jo_mama Says:

I would take Schanio any day over Lovie….

Lovie smith is a selfish Douche…..

He got rid of Mike Williams……because he threw parties at his house?

    Would not bring in Incognito.

Got rid of our entire offensive line…

    Picked Leslie Fraser as DC

No QB Competition to start the season. Named career back up as starter.

    Lovie is a Turd

  13. sho nuff Says:

are you surprised jomamma…the only person with a sack at that station is tkras…that station doesnt take calls..youre beneath them…2 words..the fan

  14. bucbucbuc Says:

There are no more excuses for McCown. Every game we see the same EXACT mistakes. Terrible turnovers, holding the ball too long when the offensive line gives him time, and passes way off the mark to open receivers. How much more does it take for him to get benched? Why is Lovie so stubborn? Mike freakin Glennon was trending on twitter before he even came in. The rest of the country agrees McCown is garbage

“You guys are so idiotic – referring to Schiano like he had a winning program.”

Where is anyone saying Schiano had a winning program?

What most of us are saying is up until now Schiano looks to be the better Bucs coach. Throw out Lovie’s days in Chicago and tell me I’m wrong.

Greg Schiano had his Bucs teams more prepared to play football than Lovie Smith’s Bucs and that’s a fact!

  16. BucIt941 Says:

You know what’s sad. Josh Freeman is starting to look like a better option at this point ….

Shoot Raheem Morris’s team always at least look competitive just outcoached regularly. This 2014 Bucs just don’t even look competitive.

  17. Uncle Albert Says:

McClown sucks, Lovie sucks, Frazier sucks. This entire team is horrible and they embarrassed themselves and all of us Buc fans on national TV tonight!!!! And as far as I am concerned, Tedford needs to get back and start calling plays or lay down in a 6 foot hole!!!! It should not take you this long to get back from a few stents, unless he is a p*ssy like the rest of this coaching staff!!!! #firelovie! #disgusted! #sickofthelosing!

  18. Buc1987 Says:

bucbucbuc….it’s not Josh McCown’s fault Lovie Smith’s D sucks ass.

  19. ManzielMadness Says:

Falcons averaged 7.5 yds per play

  20. PANHANDLE BUC Says:

I had to watch the game at a bar in GA, as I am attending a truing class. A classmate says to me “Man you guys should draft some offensive next year” When I told him all 6 of our picks were offensive players, he was speechless. This team is an embarrassment!

  21. BucIt941 Says:

It took Glennon all of what 6 passes to hit VJacks in the endzone… Can someone please tell me why the heck V Jackson didn’t even get a single pass till the 3rd quarter? You’ve have got to involve your play makers. McClown is out their acting like he needs to create miracles when all he needs to do is manage the game, eliminate the mistakes, and THROW THE FREAKING BALL TO YOUR RECEIVERS. It’s as if McCown has 0 trust in Jackson or something.

  22. Jeagan9991 Says:

Buc1987….No, but It’s McCown’s fault he throws interceptions that get returned for TD’s.

  23. Andrew 1 Says:

Like I said bucs fans, this one hurts. This one hurts so freakin much. But my stance still hasnt changed regard this defense. This defense will get much better after mid season. You read that right Buc1987. AND Lovie will not be fired this season. So save all the “fire Lovie” for later.

  24. Buc1987 Says:

“Buc1987….No, but It’s McCown’s fault he throws interceptions that get returned for TD’s.”

Yes it is his fault, but taking him out and replacing him with Joe Montana in his prime is not going to help this Lovie Smith GM/coached team.

  25. Andrew 1 Says:

As far as McCown, He is clearly not the answer. Might be a good thing that Glennon is now starting.

  26. Soggy Says:

@ RealityCheck After that game I needed a laugh = newborn giraffe Glennon, I am not ready to seal club the kid yet but that is funny..lol

  27. Buc1987 Says:

“This defense will get much better after mid season. You read that right Buc1987.”

Andrew 1 I read it earlier, no need to repeat it. I won’t forget it, nor forget who said it. I think you’re wrong, unfortunately. We’ll see.

  28. WalkdaPlank Says:

    BucIt941 –

Both active members of the “Dunkaneers” (Vjax, Evans) added to the horrible performance. Vjax dropped a few and I actually saw Mike Evans caught flat-footed, under the ball. A 6’5″ WR caught UNDER THE BALL. Ridiculous.

  29. Buc1987 Says:

Andrew 1…are you just reaching for a repeat of Dungy-like history? Where the team comes on and starts looking decent towards the end of the season?

If so. Get out of the past.

  30. DB55 Says:

Keep looking for Lovies press conf but can’t find it. I found this though and I think it will do perfectly.

    http://youtu.be/zFRyRzLkUHY

  31. Uncle Albert Says:

Lovie Smith f*cking sucks and his 1980’s style of coaching!!!!!! Honestly since 1986 I cannot remember a worse performance by a football team! Heads should roll, but we all know they won’t because even when we were down 56-0, I bet Lovie’s heart rate was still low. The man has no emotions, and if he doesn’t let his players curse, he is an A$$HOLE!!!!!! Sorry, but leave religion off the damn football field!!!!!!!!!!!!! #firelovie! #leavereligionoutoffootball!

  32. Buc1987 Says:

I look at this way and it’s really simple for me. See if it works for the rest of you when it comes to Lovie.

If Bill Walsh, Bill Parcells, Tony Dungy, or Vince Lombardi himself put the product that we’ve witnessed out on the field over the last 3 weeks and I knew of their past success. I’d still say this team is going backwards.

That’s how far away Lovie Smith is from making this team a winner again in my mind.

I’ll also add I don’t think he makes it past season 3.

  33. DallasBuc Says:

Andrew just wants everyone to know that he predicted the great Lovie turnaround!

  34. Uncle Albert Says:

Andrew 1, you are a naive dumb ass. Keep believing in outdated Lovie so our Bucs can continue to be the laughing stock. Wasn’t it this staff that said we are not rebuilding and that fans should not have to be patient????? Get your head out of your ass Andrew, you sound like another one of these pawns!!! #firelovie!

  35. BucIt941 Says:

Hey maybe this is the plan all along and Lovie is actually a genius. You know he came in didn’t like what he saw. Knowing in 2015 there is really only 1 true Franchise caliber QB coming out, and there was no other Franchise caliber available through FA this year. Now he had to concoct a plan to obtain that QB (Mariota). So it seems like he went put cards in and tanking the season for that first overall pick because he is almost a solid lock to go there. With the thought almost every coach gets a pass for that first year (good or bad) he figured “Hey, I’m Lovie Smith, Tampa loves me from my former days. They’l give me a pass for the first year”.

So he blew up the O-Line and drafted 6 offensive players 3 of which are crucial skill positions future starting RB, WR, and TE to replace an Ageing Vincent Jackson and a talented (but definitely not a bell cow) Doug Martin .He then tries to cover the major open wound of the offense (QB) with a bandaid in hopes to at least be competitive to hide his true intentions, knowing all to well that McCown has no business starting in this league.

Ya that’s it, that’s the master plan, or at least that is what i am gonna tell myself as we continue to put an embarrassment of a football team on the field this year.

  36. Soggy Says:

@DB55, thats are future.. glazzers must not do research..

  37. Zam Says:

Perhaps if he learned not to throw the ball like a shotput he’d have some accuracy and be able to throw to a receiver deeper than 5 yards. He looks like he’s trying to benchpress the silly thing. That is when he’s not falling backwards on his back foot.

But he’s just a rookie and he’ll learn. Oh wait. Never mind.

  38. Soggy Says:

@BucIt941, also kick to his boy hester over and over so he could set some records on prime time..

  39. DB55 Says:

Damn just saw the press conf on SC. It’s exactly the same as the spoof I posted. Incredible.

  40. Jeagan9991 Says:

Buc1987….yeah, but we don’t have Joe Montana in his prime…we have Mccown and Glennon! Mccown has had all the starters reps since camp started and he has proven to be what I said he was all along…a 35 year old career Journeyman/backup! At 0-3 any shot at postseason play is gone….time to let the young, promising kid start…McCown is done! Stick a fork in that experiment because it’s over!!!!

  41. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

Of the 3 Texas A&M Players drafted, Manziel, Evans, and Matthews, Mathews look the most impressive so far, to me.

  42. DallasBuc Says:

“Perhaps if he learned not to throw the ball like a shotput he’d have some accuracy and be able to throw to a receiver deeper than 5 yards. He looks like he’s trying to benchpress the silly thing.”
    Effing hilarious!

  43. Buc1987 Says:

Oh but I’ll wait and I’ll wait. Why? Because when Gruden hoisted that trophy up it brought tears to eyes.

Futility makes winning sweeter. That’s the only advice I can give the newer Buc fans out there. Hold on real tight, because it’s going to suck. When they start winning though, that’s when watching all this losing pays off.

It’s tough to be a Bucs fan.

Lions fans know what we have been through. Except they have never seen their team in the SB. You can bet if they ever do go and win one, there will be some tears flowing in Motown, lots of them.

So I’ll wait. Then I’ll wait some more.

  44. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Lovie’s Post Game press conference:

“Luckily, we have 13 more games to go.”

Oooh Lovie. Lovie. Lovie. Lovie. ………….

  45. BucIt941 Says:

rambled a bit there and never got to the plan haha. I am sorry.

    The Master Plan
Since their were no franchise QB’s available this year. Get everything else and allow it a chances to grow for a year and become a foundation for early success with a rookie QB. Tank the season and go for Mariota because you know you are not winning anything with McClown at the helm.

    but this is wishful thinking.

  46. Buc1987 Says:

Jeagan9991…okay man you were right. Is that what you want to hear or read? McCown sucks. Lovie picked him and every other FA brought in.

    Lovie’s D sucks.
    Lovie’s O sucks.
    Lovie’s SPTeams sucks.
    Lovie’s playcalling sucks.

McCown or no McCown, the team is still going to suck. Why? Because of Lovie Smith. He calls all the shots.

  47. lurker Says:

lovie screwed us by not getting a qb in the draft. evans was the wrong pick and is not the best receiver from that draft.

mccown is a waste, as i said, and glennon is not the answer, unless the question is who is not the answer at qb!

ps mariota sucked so bad last year…why do you think he is so good? this year will redeem his poor play?

  48. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ Uncle Lovie

You’re part of the reason this fan base sucks. Take a moment and feel proud of yourself, you’ve earned it. The only dumb ass is the one asking for a coach in his first year to be fired. Guess who that is? look You can call me names all you want, wont change the fact that Lovie wont be fired this season. Now that we go that out of the way, go cry some more.

  49. Andrew 1 Says:

    Make that Uncle Albert lol

  50. Buc1987 Says:

BucIt941….your plan makes sense until Lovie tells everyone on the team to try to suck on purpose, not be pro athletes, lie down and try to lose. Just so the Bucs could draft a QB/

  51. DallasBuc Says:

87- “It’s tough to be a Bucs fan.”
Sure is. Remember a guy at work called me fairweather back in 02 in the playoffs and had to explain that he as Philly fan had no clue of the loss that Buc fans have endured. No fan base does. That was a sweet time. Looks like we are back to a generational drought however.

  52. OB Says:

    Joe

Maybe we can trade for the Rams third string QB, he looked better than any of ours although I do have to say that Glennon did look better than McCown.

  53. Soggy Says:

Other teams mindset now is now way do they lose to the bucs, They dont want to be the next laughing stock of the nfl that got beat by the stinkin bucs..

  54. Soggy Says:

    no way^^

  55. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ DallasBuc

You probably missed this, so I’ll just post it here.

“Need I remind you that I specifically told you that Anthony Collins would be a stud. And what was you’re reaction back then? immediate skepticism, and negativity. You were wrong then, who’s to say you wont be wrong about this too. Predictions work both ways buddy. We’ll just have to wait and see, now won’t we.”

  56. Andrew 1 Says:

I think I also said that Michael Johnson would be a bust also, in that same post.

  57. DallasBuc Says:

I dont think Glennon takes this job from McCown. Would look too bad for do-no-wrong Lovie and his lapdog GM. Doesn’t fit the “plan”. Speaking of the plan, did Michael Johnson dominate that rookie LT tonight?

  58. Buc1987 Says:

This team as no identity. There is no comraderie amongst the players. It’s just a bunch of players thrown together with some of our past players in hopes that works.

Our old glory year Buc teams we’re built up thru the draft and a few FA’s added here and there. The core of the team played for years together. This team is just a bunch of out of place puzzle pieces that probably fit better on other teams.

I know I misspelled comraderie …but it’s late and I’m not looking it up.

  59. DallasBuc Says:

Andrew- Collins got his ass handed to him tonight. What game are you watching. So did all our other big FAs. Wake up pal!

  60. Andrew 1 Says:

Collins did not get his “ass handed to him” tonight. Dont think he even gave up a sack. The rest of the O line? Not so much. Dotson played poorly and EDS was reminiscent of Trueblood with his personnel foul penalties.

  61. Uncle Albert Says:

    Andrew,

So you have no problem the way we were emabarrassed nationally tonight????? You obviously have not been a fan as long as some of the rest of us!!! Imagine if Schiano was at the helm…….. We have suffered long enough and this game was not bad, it was a freakin disgrace!!! What happened to Marinelli after 0-16????? Do you really see this team winning a single game???????? #firelovie!

  62. Buc1987 Says:

Andrew 1…in a sense with Lovie having so much power over the team. I can’t see it getting better. If this is the beginning of all this power that he has. I don’t think he makes it again, like he did in Chicago. If this is the results or the beginning of what’s to come.

And I know “things take time”. I just don’t see it working man.

  63. Jeagan9991 Says:

Buc1987….I don’t care about being right…I’d far rather see the Bucs win,,,no matter who is the QB. Right now we have a harsh reality to face. Lovie Smith is most probably NOT going anywhere this year. I can’t ever remember seeing a head coach fired after 3 games! So we have a choice to make…McCown or Glennon…we now know what we have in McCown (and it aint that great)…or we can see if Glennon can get better and truly become the very good QB some of us think he can be. I agree that this team looks like crap right now, and I think Lovie Smith is in over his head, but we can start planning for next year and the future, or we can stick to what’s not working. I hate the fact our season is over already, but we can still make some progress and get better as a team. At least that would give us fans some hope after this train wreck!

  64. Buc1987 Says:

Uncle Albert….Did Schiano ever get beat this bad? I don’t think so.

  65. WalkdaPlank Says:

    @DallasBuc

I was particularly disappointed by the play of our Pro Bowler, Revis replacement Alterraun Verner. Disgusting DB play from him and the rest of the secondary tonight.

  66. DallasBuc Says:

Andrew- Collins was caught eating cake while QB was smashed on one play and another where he was totally trucked to give up another sack. He personally gave up at least 2. He is no stud.

  67. RealityCheck Says:

@1987 – “This team is just a bunch of out of place puzzle pieces that probably fit better on other teams.”

That may be the most accurate and succinct way of describing this team that I’ve ever heard. I’m def stealing that.

  68. Uncle Albert Says:

Watch NFL Network!!! This team is horrid!!!! They had their third stringers in a freakin regular season game!!!!!! I almost vomited, and it wasn’t the freakin bourbon! And BTW, EDS penalties were after we were already down 42-0. Can you say FRUSTRATION????!!!!!!!!! #wakeup!

  69. Buc1987 Says:

“At least that would give us fans some hope after this train wreck!”

lol If I had a nickel for every time I heard….that.

    Season after season.

  70. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ Uncle Albert

Apparently you have some sort of reading comprehension problems. What the hell did I just say earlier? Here let me repeat myself “Like I said bucs fans, this one hurts. This one hurts so freakin much.” But no, you’re not a dumb ass at all. BTW, been a fan of the bucs since 1997.

  71. Buc1987 Says:

RealityCheck …not bad for a kid that flunked out of college huh? lol jk

  72. V.RattleHed13 Says:

Start the fire and burn your bucs gear. Im sick of this pee-wee excuse for a football team. Done.

  73. WalkdaPlank Says:

The entire O-line was terrible, led by EDS. Wouldn’t be surprised if Mankins took himself out of the game. Man I’d be one PO’ed dude if the Patriots front office did me like that, sending me to this clown circus.

  74. DallasBuc Says:

Walkdaplank- whole secondary were running around like bees were chasing them. Nearly every reception was uncontested. Shameful really, for coaches and players.

  75. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ DallasBuc

Well, that’s strange. I remember reading you saying that you were wrong about Collins earlier this week, that he was actually good. I’m sure you dont recall that though.

  76. Buc1987 Says:

The best part of all this is. We get 10 days to forget that it happened. I won’t forget it. Some of us will make ourselves forget it though. Andrew 1 being one them.

  77. Phillip Says:

    @buc1987

42-17 is pretty bad to New Orleans and 23-3 against the Pats in the 2013 season and a nice 41-0 loss to the Saints in 2012… So ya I’d say those are pretty bad as well and that’s with your boy Schiano in charge.. Do some research before running your mouth…

SCHIANO sucks as a coach.. PERIOD

Lovie not far behind him apparently

  78. DallasBuc Says:

Andrew- he played well and I admitted it. He got his ass kicked tonight. Am I saying something or not saying something that you disagree with or take issue with? What is wrong with you?

  79. Buc1987 Says:

It really is official though now.

When I first moved to Florida in 87. I blindly became a Bucs fan, not knowing much of their history.

I bought Bucs gear and wore it to High School. I got laughed at and made fun of for being a Bucs fan by so many northern transplants. All I could do was take it. I had no defense for it. My team never proved them wrong.

Those days are here again. When I tell people I’m a Bucs fan. They will laugh. Oh well.

  80. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ Buc1987

Only a fool trips on what’s behind them.

Guess who I learned that from? Ray Lewis! lmao. Never thought I would learn anything from that guy, but he’s right. Even still, doesn’t mean I’ll forget this one, at least for the entire season. It’s demoralizing to be sure, but it is what it is.

  81. Buc1987 Says:

Yah let me do some research on a 1/2 a bottle of Jack at 1:47 in the A.M. jackass.

  82. Phillip Says:

It’s sad that we have fans wishing we still had a horrible coach leading the way… We are so used to losing we have fans that actually don’t mind losing as long as it is somewhat close or will accept average to below avg play… These are the same fans that believe Glennon’s stats from tonight look good… Ya the numbers look good except he should have had 2 picks against him. Oh and once again on 3rd and 17 and Glennon dumps off for a 3 yard gain..

Should have hired an OFFENSIVE head coach…

  83. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ DallasBuc

He may have played poorly tonight, but so did the entire team, hence the 56 to 14 blowout. So does that discount what he did before, and automatically make him a bad player? He’s had 2 good games, one bad, So as far as I’m concerned he still has a chance to be good. Apparently you think otherwise. Keep changing you’re mind week after week though. Makes you seem on top of things to be sure.

  84. Buc1987 Says:

Since I did not do the research for Phillip. I’ll re-word it for him specifically. To be technical and all.

Re-word : this loss was so bad, I can’t remember Schiano ever losing this bad.

    Is that better Phillip?

  85. Phillip Says:

You were spouting sh it all night well before you “drank” half a bottle of Jack… Good job

  86. Buc1987 Says:

I don’t want Schiano back by no means. My point has been and continues to be since week 1. That this team is going backwards from Schiano.

  87. Buc1987 Says:

    Phillip Says:

“You were spouting sh it all night well before you “drank” half a bottle of Jack… Good job”

Not spouting off the stuff you pointed out at 1:47 A.M.

  88. Jesse Says:

    It’s time for new owners.

  89. DallasBuc Says:

Andrew- does “has a chance to be good” equal “stud” because I may have to go look that up. And that other snotty remark about changing my mind, that is not what I am doing at all. I am merely evaluating the play of Collins after each game since he is one of our high priced FAs. He had a solid first two weeks and ate a man’s ass tonight. Is there another site that would be more appropriate to talk about the Bucs and their players than here. What is your point man?

  90. Phillip Says:

When you defend someone it comes across as you want him as a coach… If that actually isn’t the case I apologize… But we do have some dumbass fans that actually want Schiano as coach still…

By no means am I defending Lovie either… Didn’t like the hire from the beginning and this is why… Dungy/Lovie ball doesn’t work in the NFL anymore unless you have a Marshawn Lynch Russell Wilson and a historic defense which we have none of… I want to make sure everyone realizes that

  91. Buc1987 Says:

When did I say I don’t remember Schiano ever losing this bad? It had to be about an hour ago. In that case I’ve been drunk since 11 P.M. so there goes that looking up Schiano’s wins and losses and the scores just to be more accurate and not spout off anything that would not be factual at 1 A.M.

I should have really looked up the Schiano’s losses. Because hey it really bothered Phillip that much.

  92. DallasBuc Says:

Phillip- in my case and I think many others the use of bringing up Schiano is to point out the lack of improvement since many believed that Schiano represented the modern low point for this franchise.

  93. Buc1987 Says:

No man that’s all I meant by it. I really at the time could not remember losing this bad under Schiano. Plus I am drunk and doing oone helluva job typing I might add for 2:00.

Except for that last post. Little confusing when I read it back.

  94. Buc1987 Says:

Maybe I just chose to forget the Schiano days and how bad they actually were.

Thank you. I knew there was no need to come back to JBF. You speak for me just fine.

My point is that Collins will have been a great FA signing when it’s all said and done. There, I think I put it in terms that you can understand. Point is, you got to look at the bigger picture man.

  97. Buc1987 Says:

Okay well I’m going to bed. It’s so much easier sleeping this season knowing you don’t have season tickets. Yawn.

  98. Warthog Says:

Total failure by every member of the organisation top to bottom. Man, gruden got run outta town for not developing a qb and losing playoff games. I’d take Gruden’s Bucs any day of the week over what we’ve had since. We still don’t have a qb and these days we get hammered in games where under gruden we were at least competitive. You don’t know what you got til it’s gone, Bucs fans.

  99. Phillip Says:

Everything that involves Schiano does bother me… I’m embarrassed that the team I’ve grown up rooting for as a kid has to be linked to that horrible ass coach for the rest of time… I’m actually okay with the creamsicle years because we were just horrible on the field… With that piss poor excuse of a coach Schiano not only did we suck on the field but had so much drama off the field and all his stupid rules that clearly don’t work… I can’t stand him

  100. Buc1987 Says:

    Andrew 1…goodnight.

I do think however that you were the one that told me last season about this time, not to worry. That the NFL runs in cycles and soon it will be the Bucs time. I pretty sure it was you. If not then I apologize.

Kind of sounds like this : “Point is, you got to look at the bigger picture man.”

    See you all tomorrow.

Seriously doubt he will end up being a great FA signing but if he is then all the credit goes to you because you arbitrarily predicted a part time backup LT would eventually become good or great or a stud or whatever.
Do I now have the proper understanding in the big picture? Because that big picture must include tonight!

  102. Soggy Says:

@Warthog, I said it before , The football gods called, they said if we want to start winning again we have to kiss them where they fart because we fired chucky.. but after tonight they want us to sell the team to chucky too..

  103. Andrew 1 Says:

Honestly, I dont know why even I try to offer up some honest hope to some of you guys. Just seems like a waist of time. I mean, it’s not like I dont notice all the negatives, I could go on and on with that stuff. Instead I choose to point out some of the positives instead. I guess that makes me an idiot or something. oh well. One thing’s for sure, as long as I’m around you’ll hear both sides of it, that’s not going to change.

  104. DallasBuc Says:

Andrew- don’t stop bringing your little nuggets of hope to the despair that is a Bucs life! Those of us too blinded by the darkness will never see the light otherwise…

  105. Phillip Says:

While I don’t like Lovie as our head coach and have made it known that… If Lovie is given more than this year (I’m being serious he can’t survive an 0-16 or 1-15 season I don’t think) then he will make sure we are an avg team next year… I never once thought we would make the playoffs this year (predicted 6-10) but figured we could make a run at it next year… With coach Schiano we would never be a team that won anything.. He’s terrible.. TERRIBLE…

  106. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ DallasBuc

More sarcasm I see. Just say the word, and I’ll list the obvious things that are wrong with this team. Won’t change anything though.

  107. Pruritus Ani Says:

Just because Lovie Smith was on Dungy’s staff, he’s not Tony Dungy. When Dungy took over the team, they demonstrated consistent improvement even when they were losing in their first season. You saw discipline and commitment from the players. We he faced the media, he exuded confidence and was able to get buy in from the fans.

I know it’s early but I just don’t see it in this guy. He looks completely bewildered and in over his head. That’s very worrisome going into the 4th week of the season.

  108. Phillip Says:

Maybe Lovie will lose the passion of coaching and step down? Then maybe the Glazers can get their heads out of each other’s asses and sign a damn offensive head coach! Someone that wasn’t fired from their previous job before coming here would be nice as well… Glazers have to be pissed that both Manchester United and the Bucs spent all that money on new coaches and players this year and they both SUCK

  109. lurker Says:

the bigger picture of a sh!tstain is still a picture of a sh!tstain…

and someone has to clean up this mess

  110. DallasBuc Says:

I doubt Lovie would step down and I don’t think he will bench McCown. However, another couple routs like this could change that reality significantly!

  111. lurker Says:

i was hoping for jay gruden or another offensive coach, also.

  112. Andrew 1 Says:

Dont worry Dallas, I’ll be sure to remind you of how wrong you were. I can promise you that.

  113. Andrew 1 Says:

And with that, goodnight bucs fans.

  114. Drew Says:

None of you are Bucs fans, you all are a embarrassment to real buc fans. Mostly though you just prove everyone right about this areas fans, dumb, flag wavers. To call Schiano and Morris better than Lovie, It’s so hard to respond to that, because it sounds like it came out of a 3 year Olds mouth. Was Schiano or Morris interviewed for head coaching jobs in the offseason? NO. Not even for college jobs. Those two coaches you morons praise, all but did this franchise in with thier horrendous drafts, bad signings, and everything else that’s wrong with this franchise that Lovie is trying to fix. Besides McCoy, which a blind man would have taken him at #3, tell me what 1st round draft pick is still with this team? Clayborn =Bust, Barron = I’m tired of watching him chase recievers, he needs to be benched, Freeman – gone, martin – can’t stay healthy, Revis – gone, out of 6 1st round draft picks by the coaches and front office, 1 has worked out, 1. That kills a football team. Kills it. No depth, nothing. Lovie tried to mend it to try to give us a winner, it’s not working, give a great head coach time to build and gel his team. I highly doubt this team will start 0-8 like Schiano last year or 0-10 like Morris in 2011. So all you know everything dumb ass buc fans, shut the hell up. Oh Glennon sucks, got sacked 3 times by a team that had 0 sacks going into the season. Because he doesn’t know how to step up into the pocket, only left or right into a defensive end. Come on. He averages 5-6 yards a pass. He is a backup. Holy crap.

  115. Red Says:

Drew If you just take a look at the posts again and you can see how low your view is. Lovey has decimated our team trying to show how smart he is. That means if you don’t know…. he got rid of a lot of good players who we now need. He passed on players that had whipped our ass.. Ever heard of Hester? He wants to play prevent deference the full 60 min. The best way for a team to loos is to go into prevent defense. AND for the dip wit that suggested freemen, is your name Steve little dog?

  116. Oahubuc Says:

How much are we paying Koenen again to break the cardinal rule of punting?

  117. lurker Says:

    feel better drew?

so what greatness has lovie done in 3 games? where else did he interview? he has made plenty of poor decisions and it seems to most everyone that the team is worse off, at least now.

sorry you don’t like the bucs’ previous picks, but so far evans hasn’t panned out at all. we should have drafted a qb and the draft was deep at the wr position, where others are doing better than evans.

  118. Andrew Says:

I am among the “if McCown is the starter, I will not watch” crowd….and cover 2 does not work without pressure up front AND guys hitting hard.

  119. BUCSFAN1987 Says:

funny look at all the key players he talked about and then now there not here.

  120. JBuc Says:

Obviously last night sucked on a whole new level. However, the Bucs have had a complete roster transfusion this year. I heard during the pre-game that there are 40 new players on the 53 man roster and three of the holdovers from last year were inactive last night (McCoy, Martin, Foster). Combined with new staff and new schemes this is somewhat expected. I will admit that it was very disappointing to see many players not knowing their assignments and the effort was poor in every phase of the game. That is a poor reflection on the coaching staff and if keeps up than Lovie will lose the supporters he does have. With that said, I have seen teams rebuild before at every level and it usually gets worse before it gets better.

  121. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I just love how everyone is talking about how much better Schiano was. As one who did not want him fired, I think its funny because you people are constantly wanting change.

The grass is not always greener. Had Schiano remained at least one more year, we would have our starting QB, the draft would have gone really, really well, and we would probably be winning at least two of these last three games.

Nevertheless, you all got what you wished for. You got a new coach. You all wanted Lovie Smith too. You got Lovie Smith.

Now, of course, things are not going well and instead of learning your lessons and being patient, you are screaming about how the owners made a mistake and you want a new coach again.

    STOP BEING STUPID.

Constant change is pure chaos. If you want improvement, you have to stick with a good coach.

Love Smith is a good coach, a winning coach. You cannot expect him to fix everything all at once…no matter how much effort he put into doing it. You all claim Lovie built up your expectations? No he didn’t. He said nothing more than any other coach always says. It was the media and your own selves that built the expectations.

You need to settle down. All of you.

I was NOT in favor of firing Schiano. I think he got a bum deal and should have had one more year at least. That said, Lovie Smith is the best candidate as head coach of the Buccaneers. Not only is he proven, but he is a part of our history.

We have to trust him to right this ship. And we have to understand it will take a little time.

Last night was a complete embarrassment. Heck, even Lovie said so at halftime. But, believe it or not, this beat down was a good thing. Character shows in adversity, or the lack thereof. Lovie got a good look at the character of his players. A very good look. And it was found wanting.

I trust him to right the ship, and I know that it cannot be done quickly.

  122. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I also point out, in regard to all the FA spending…the Eagles did the same thing a few years ago and they had a bad season directly following it. The next year they fixed things and got better.

    Patience.

  123. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @JBuc

You provide words of wisdom, my friend. Words of wisdom.

  124. NCbucsFansince79 Says:

I would like to know how many of you were the same crew that drove Gruden out of town. Just finishing my tenth year as a Club Seat holder at an investment of $75,000. I was blown away how the local media and fan base ran him out of town and hired the clown Raheem was. I at least went into every season with hope during the Gruden years and I believe he would have stayed current with the NFL trending to a passing league and we would have stayed competitive. How many of you would be happy to lose a playoff game now?

  125. FLBoyInDallas Says:

After two full seasons, just like Schiano got, none of you dimwits will be saying he’s a better coach than Lovie. In fact, all you have to do is look at Lovie’s career in the NFL already in comparison to Schiano. There IS no comparison. Some of you are so stupid that you can’t tell logic from your own childish emotions.

  126. JBuc Says:

You too Bonzai. As you said, constant change leads to chaos. It is completely ridiculous for people to expect a high level of proficiency after such high turnover and change. I know it’s hard to watch and as a fan it sucks. However, if you consistently run every coach out of town every time something goes wrong you get what we have which is losing consistently.

  127. BUC IT Says:

Does this franchise have the curse of blackbeard or something? Its embarrassing being a fan a lot.

  128. Aaron Says:

I’d rather stick with McCown for the next 3 games. Make an assessment at the bi-week. We all know this season is over…lets not throw Glennon to the wolves. Let’s wait till our d is healthy…get Teford back healthy etc..I want to get a good picture of Glennon’s ability. I dont want to hear the Glennon mob excuses…The schedule lightens up and the players will hopefully start to play better as the season goes on…that’s a better time to play Glennon.

Saying that, if we don’t generate a pass rush and stay in cover 2…it doesnt really matter who we have playing QB.

  129. ToesOnTheLine Says:

    @ Phillip

When Lovie Smith wins his 12th game as a Bucs HC I will concede he is better than Schiano, he has two years to show me. I truly though Smith was better than what he’s shown (figured 6-10 this year and 11-5 next). From what I’ve seen so far Lovie will be lucky to go 11-5 in two seasons. At least with Glennon playing instead of MCCown they might squeak out 3 or 4 this year…and that is a big maybe!

  130. ToesOnTheLine Says:

^^^ make that 11 wins in two seasons
