Incognito Ex-Teammate Says Bucs Should Pass

August 26th, 2014

Former Richie Incognito teammate Anthony Becht, an analyst on the Buccaneers Radio Network, is against adding Incognito to the Tampa Bay roster.

Incognito is a good football player, Becht said on WDAE-AM 620, but “it’s Tuesday to Saturday that’s the problem.”

Becht painted a picture of Incognito not having the respect of his former Rams teammates and Becht said any new opportunity Incognito might get will not represent “a second chance,” meaning Incognito has gotten that chance already.

Becht said if he were Lovie Smith, he would put Incognito through a grueling workout before even talking to him. Sometimes, Becht said, a player’s true character is revealed under that kind of extreme stress versus chatting in a conference room. If Incognito handled the workout like a professions, only then would Becht talk to him about his character and fitting in on the roster.

Regardless, Becht said, “I don’t think at that point it’s worth bringing him in.

“Is that what we want? Is that what we want to do?”

You can listen to the full take below, via audio. The Incognito take starts at the four-minute mark.

Incognito is a good football player, Becht said on WDAE-AM 620….I stopped there….

  2. INDYbucsfan Says:

Joe is good to see you’re finally coming around on this whole incognito thing 😉

  3. jo_mama Says:

    Incognto said a Naughty Word.

If you say this Naughty Naughty word, no white player can come to his defense.

If you say this Naughty Naughty word, no on air personality can come to his defense or you might be called the R word.

Other than this he has done nothing.

  4. The_Buc_Realist Says:

I think you forgot, He was an “honorary n_word”

  5. Orca Says:

^^ If former teammates want nothing to do with him, I think that says a lot. Infecting a locker room with cancerous people does not contribute to winning.

  6. Bob858 Says:

Joe doesn’t want Incognito but wanted Johnny football – LOL

    enough said – sleazy

    Moving vans….moving in…..

You don’t even know his history, do you???? OMG, don’t make a claim like that without knowing the backstory.

Last night I was for signing him. Today? Not so much. Why? Because I actually did the reading. You should try it.

  9. JonBucFan Says:

If love brings him in it would be under a contract that will not only be based on his performance but his professionalism. Love is strict when it comes to that type of stuff and wouldn’t be afraid of having an out clause in his contract if he were to violate any of those said conditions.

  10. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Man someone on this website must have had a run in or knows Incognito on some personal level to fire all this negativity towards one man! I mean LeGarrette Blount punched a dude on national tv and was given a pass and second chance and he has taken full advantage of that chance….i guess?

How was Blount given a pass? He was suspended by his college team and plummeted in the draft.–Joe

  11. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

My comment is awaiting moderation, but I hope it clears. It addressed your comment, which was very wrong.

  12. AF_Buc Says:

Let me ask you a question, does everyone you work with like you?

If there’s just ONE who doesn’t, you need to quit your job by this logic.

  13. DallasBuc Says:

If only we hadn’t blown up the existing oline in March and replaced it with overpaid, under-qualified backups and rookies. The decision-making over there is highly questionable. Would love to see the media turn their focus on that and less about what embarrassing band-aids we are forced to resort to.

  14. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Incognito deserves the treatment. This would not be a second chance. It would be more like an 8th chance.

  15. eric Says:

I heard a couple of his ex teammates claim it is a great guy what gives! I don’t think he can infect the Bucs locker room because there are guys in there who will look him in the eye and say chill the F**K out, he do not have to be a leader here the leadership is already in place that makes a big difference!

  16. whocares92 Says:

Joe the guy for the FIRST TIME is taking counseling which can go a long way. The difference this time is that he’s making the changes necessary within himself to return to the game he’s played his whole life. That shows he’s willing to face tough inner demons and with the guidance needed can actually change.

Good for Incognito, but the counseling isn’t relevant here. Aqib Talib completed court-ordered anger management, too. –Joe

  17. bucfanjeff Says:

I lifetime of mental instability and well documented negative (sometimes severely) behavior. It’s just a bad idea. Overpay for Boone and call the guard position done (for this year).

  18. jo_mama Says:

I am Re-Reading the Wells Report.

I swear to god I am laughing my Ass off.

Incognito used to call Martin a “stinky Pakistani”

If I got offended by any of my friends who made innuendos regarding my daughter turning 18 in a few years. I would not have any friends.

However all these naughty talking friends who not hesitate to have my back if I was in trouble.

As a man. If anyone goes over the line they will be addressed. But you would expect this from a Man.

Reading the Wells report is like going to a comedy club.

  19. Fritz50 Says:

One player, from his first team (a media personality, to boot), well, why not trot out the ‘victim’ of this outrageous bullying… and please explain why most of his teammates from Miami aren’t lining up to provide quotes for the Joes. Where’s the balanced reporting ? Silly me, I thought that was one of those much vaunted journalistic principles.

So you’d rather Joe not share what Becht thinks? The guy is part of the Buccaneers Radio Network. When Joe learns of an ex-Buccaneer embracing Incognito, Joe surely will share that. –Joe

  20. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Why are we listening to the opinion of Anthony Becht, he played for a bunch of losers therefore by this site’s fuzzy math then he too is a loser like Incognito

Cmon there are so many thugs in the NFL that fly under the radar with what they may have or may have not done that never gets out, but they can play and allowed to because they can help a team win. Didnt Brandon Marshall have some problems with his wife when he played for Lovie in Chicago and worked to get that fixed? Lets see this play out with every article about how bad Incognito is and how great Johnny 8 Ball was or is going to be despite all his shenanigans he has going on

  21. RastaMon Says:

    “Johnny 8 Ball”……LOL….

  22. Justin Says:

LOL beggers can’t be choosers..You saw how awful the O line did against the Jacksonville Jaguars defense. Take a veteran on the line, sign him to a low salary with performance clauses, and include a safety net for Tampa in case he acts up off the field. This isn’t their first rodeo signing a troubled player. This visit illustrates how the team feels about their O line at the moment, that they’re willing to take a risk on a player with this much baggage. I think we’ll be better off with him rather than telling him “it’s okay, we got this”…because they don’t

  23. robert9 Says:

i think what i’ve learned from this and the manziel manlove is that the media covering a story typically takes the opposite opinion of the fans. whether that be for page clicks, to stir the pot or they have an agenda. i see a pattern.

  24. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

ESPN talking heads who played in the NFL in the 70s,80s, and 90s who probably have seen it all in terms of player behavior say that it is a no-brainer to bring Incognito into any team that needs help at guard

  25. Jeagan1999 Says:

According to the Bucs had a “very constructive” 5 hour meeting with Incognito, but they have not (as yet) offered him a contract. I’m sure, now that he is free to play this year by the League Office, Incognito will have other suitors kicking his tires too!

  26. SAMCRO Says:

When Joe learns of an ex-Buccaneer embracing Incognito, Joe surely will share that. –Joe

You know and I know that you will not do that for some reason or another. If Bucs fans could find a media outlet that delivers the news and not create it, your site would become irrelevant. To insult 80% of your readership is not conducive to future revenue. It maybe your website but it is the Bucs fans who drive it. Why alienate yourselves from us.

Sir, nobody would read this website if Joe cared about polling data and blew with the winds of Bucs fans for fear of alienating. Joe’s not a political party. –Joe

  27. Jason Says:

Becht is pretty damn intelligent. I like his idea about the grueling workout; not sure if it would happen or not, but it’s an out-of-the-box idea.
I also agree that, while Incognito might be a better blocker, he represents a significant downgrade in team chemistry and cohesiveness.

  28. nate Says:

I dont really know if this is a good idea but the nfl is suppose to be the best athletes on the field and our line sux this bad I pay to see the best…kf hes better then any1 we got we got to talk to him.. then set rules.. maybe hes changed…im tired of losing….and all my friend from other cities making fun of my team…

  29. Jason Says:

I don’t understand how people are comparing Incognito to Manziel and Blount, or to someone “not being liked” at their workplace.
There is a huge difference between someone who has a personality that might be selfish but is also still very young (Manziel) or someone who hit someone else because they were being taunted and called a racial slur (Blount), and someone who INTENTIONALLY creates division and seeks out potential victims in order to use them by raising his own social status by virtue of lowering theirs.
F that guy. If he truly is letting his counseling sink in, then I truly hope he grows and learns and gets better as a human being. But from his comments and “apologies”, it doesn’t seem he gets it yet.

  30. biff barker Says:

Becht knows something about football. His opinion is worth listening to.

As desperate as the Bucs are he just may be right.

  31. BFFL Says:

This is all a smoke screen to entice the 9ers to get a trade done with Boone.

  32. Orca Says:

^^ If only that were true. SF isn’t desperate to trade Boone, and they wouldn’t be buying the ruse.

  33. FLBoyInDallas Says:

This whole thing could be pressure on the 49ers to be more open to the Bucs’ terms on a trade for Boone, but I suspect it really is genuine interest in Incognito and the Bucs are leaking a ton of details (content of discussions, length of visit, physical, etc) to the media in an attempt to gauge fan and also media response. They want to know how much heat they have to absorb if they decide to pull the trigger. You can expect at least a few days wait for them to make a final decision so they can have an idea of exactly what they’re dealing with and whether it’s worth it to them or not.

If Richie Incognito was applying for a Job at an Accounting Firm. I may think twice about hiring him. However I think the Christmas party would be awesome.

But this is Football. where grown men throw their massive bodies around at a high rate of speed to knock the Sh!t out of the other guy for our personal enjoyment.

I think you need to check your delicate sensibilities at the door.

    Incognito has never been arrested.

After the Christmas party Incognito and Martin both went to the Strip bar.

I am 46 and still horse around with my friends. All of which could be considered assault when viewed under a microscope.

Again. What ever you want to say I go back to Incognito has never been arrested while in the NFL.

For a guy who is supposed to be a menace to society. He seems like a guy living the dream having fun bashing heads in for a living.

    Big Freaken Deal.

  35. jo_mama Says:

Richie Incognito has less arrests since being in the NFL than Texas Governors.

  36. Cobraboy Says:

What Becht says flies in the face of Incognito’s most recent teammates:

Martin and his lawyer mommy played the victim card in a man’s game.

  37. Cobraboy Says:

    What ^^^jo_mama^^^ said…

  38. johnnytheMOON Says:

People act like we have to sign this guy to a lifetime contract .. bring him if it works= good .. if not send him on his way …. Like Ian Beckles said this stuff goes on all the time in Locker Rooms ..

  39. johnnytheMOON Says:

They let Rapist , Racist ,Wife Beaters ,Dui Manslaughter,Drug addicts ,Dog Killers ,Alcoholics all have 2nd chances ..why not a locker room bully ?

  40. Cobraboy Says:

As he’d be a “vested veteran” I suspect no will sign him until after Week 1 so his salary is not guaranteed for the year should the relationship go south…

  41. Tampabaybucfan Says:

  42. rawr Says:

So I did the reading and still don’t what has he done…
Whoever has been in school all this things are normal
There is bullying there is fighting but I don’t see any arrests drug use
    Raping or knife fighting.
    So sucks it up.

  43. Cobraboy Says:

I didn’t see this one coming: Jay Glazer says Bucs will trade a pick & TE Wright for Patriots OG Logan Mankins.

  44. PanhandleBucGuy28 Says:

Keep in mind he played with him in St. Louis not Miami. I would have been a turd if I had to play for St. Louis. I mean read what Behct said then read what his most recent teammates said about him. His QB stuck by him so how is he such a bad guy. I mean the list goes on of guys that done stuff they regret like Jaws said “THE GUY CAN PLAY”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
