Da’Quan Bowers Entering Final Bucs Stage?

July 22nd, 2014

The “Custodian of Canton” is cautioning people not to wager on Da’Quan Bowers making the final 53

Joe can hear the rhythmic banging very clearly. No, it’s not his neighbors slapping bodies. But the pulsating sound is unmistakable.

Dink-THUMP! Dink-THUMP! Dink-THUMP! Dink-THUMP!

It’s like the Jack Bauer 24 countdown clock. Either Jack Bauer is to be executed by the Russians or held for ransom when 24 signed off for its (last?) season last week. So it’s not Bauer’s clock.

(Joe pities the poor Russians.)

Just like that thumping 24 clock, a clock is ticking on Da’Quan Bowers’ Tampa days. Joe does not have to recount Bowers ‘current tenure with the Bucs, each year coming well short of goals and expectations of Bucs suits, coaches and fans.

Bowers is now on his third coaching staff with a head coach who has shown scant patience for under-performing players he did not draft or sign. If the obvious was not enough of an alarm for Bowers, then his position coach, Joe Cullen, called out Bowers for being out of shape (again). In June, no less! Joe is not sure he has ever heard of such a thing.

All of this is not lost on the “Custodian of Canton,” eye-RAH! Kaufman of The Tampa Tribune, who can also hear that loud clock ticking.

It didn’t help when news broke Sunday that Bowers flew in this Destiny’s Child star Farrah Franklin for a weekend of musical collaboration (?) and she became so intoxicated he had to call the cops as she was trying to run off into the woods.

Remember, Lovie got rid of a guy who had a mattress for a lawn ornament. Guessing Lovie isn’t too happy that a guy who allegedly wasn’t in shape in June is winding up with his name splashed all over TMZ, and not for sacking anyone.

Bowers, who really is a nice guy, needs to find the inner instinct in him to play like a man possessed once training camp begins in three days.

Im with Kaufman. Not going to happen, unfortunately. What a waste of talent.

  2. DallasBuc Says:

Didn’t Bowers have offseason surgery? Would be informational to include that every time you sh*t on him for being out of shape.

  3. Bucsfanman Says:

@Dallas- I heard that too. Unfortunately, so much attention has been placed on him it would be hard for him to get a fair shake at this point. That said, he should be much farther along in his career and training. He would serve himself well by showing something, ANYTHING at this point.

  4. Joseph Mamma Says:

Yes it’s put up or shut up time for Bowers and Claybourne this year. If either one has success this year it will probably be AC. I’m thinking we’ll probably move on from both of them.

  5. Bogiedr Says:

DallasBuc, I bet Cam Newton is in shape and he also had surgery. Bowers has turned into another Clemson failure. Too bad because I really felt he was the Bucs answer at DE. Just another failure …

  6. DallasBuc Says:

Bogiedr- so all injuries, surgeries and recoveries are equal? Got it pal..

Nothing Joe has written — and Joe HAS written about his surgery several times — will “sh!t” on Bowers quite like his position coach openly calling him out in front of a dozen or so media types. In June!

Mike Williams was recovering from surgery too, both voluntary and involuntary. What happened to him?

    Calm down, Francis.

I’m not certain the term fair shake applies in Bowers case. If his ongoing injury issues are keeping him from being in game shape just go ahead and put that out there.
Such is the case with Nicks so why not Bowers?
BTW, let’s hope Gholston gets coached up by Cullen and Clayborn is 100% too.

  9. biff barker Says:

As far as MW goes, he’s declared himself 100% ready to go but is maybe 4th on the depth chart in Buffalo.

  10. Buc_The_World Says:

    @biff

Because Nicks is a pro bowler who has proven himself in the NFL, helped win a superbowl, and has earned the respect of the league. Bowers has done nothing but get arrested, come to camp out of shape, party, and talk sh*t. He doesn’t deserve a fair shake at this point.

Um, one guy was an All Pro widely regarded as one of the best players in the NFL. The other, (thus far) is a never-been.

Again, Joe has written about Bowers’ surgery several times, more than any other outlet. Joe has written about it enough it should be common knowledge. Just like Joe doesn’t invoke how Bowers is from Clemson, or that he is a defensive end.

    Not when he was traded.

  13. phil Says:

    I hope he is renting.

“Calm down, Francis.”…hah! Don’t worry Mary, I am perfectly calm. I am not the thin-skinned one here.
When you repeatedly bring up his being out of shape without also his off season surgery as the reason why it paints a very misleading picture of the player. And yeah, he is probably gone no matter how good of shape he is in or how good of football he shows this training camp. This new regime, like most others, talk a game about competition but their minds are already made up. Just ask Glennon…and I am no Glennon fan!
