Mike Evans Has A New Contract

June 12th, 2014

mike evans 3It’s really only news when draft picks don’t sign a contract relatively quickly with their new team.

So today’s inking of Tampa Bay first-round draft pick Mike Evans is more a formality than anything else. But Joe’s happy for the big, beastly wide receiver, who already has said he’ll be busy this summer vacation getting in 1-on-1 lessons with Josh McCown.

Like all first-round picks, Evans will score sweet signing bonus. Joe hopes Evans doesn’t do anything too crazy celebrating with his best buddy and college roommate at Texas A&M. That would be Johnny Football.

Is Evans old enough to legally buy alcohol? Hope the kid realizes this is the first contract, and if he plays like the big guy who’s mentoring him – his next contract will be in the stratosphere.

    beast mode, TB stylie

  3. MR.T Says:

Evans, being a family man, is not likely to indulge in the wild child behavior of JF. I’m glad the distraction of JF is in Cleveland and not here.

  4. Orca Says:

So now Joe is worried about Johnny Football being a bad influence on Mike Evans, but he wasn’t worried about JF’s behavior itself? I think JF’s behavior starting from draft day has already been a red flag. Soooo glad we didn’t draft him. Evans will dominate, JF is going to be a bust.

  5. Orca Says:

The money-rubbing finger gesture as he walked onto stage at the draft said everything we need to know about Johnny Football. Douche.

1 down, 2 to go. Scott Smith is reporting that Sims is imminent and may be signed after practice today. Haven’t heard anything on Jenkins – still in schooll I think. Reports are Evans deal is 4 year 14.6mil, 8.96 signing bonus with 5th year option.

The rookie wage scale was probably the best change the NFL has made over the last few years. It brings me to a point I’ve thought about, why doesn’t the NFL create a “max deal” like the NBA has? Every year a new QB is getting a record deal and you wonder where it stops if ever. Now I’m not talking about letting the owners keep more money as they would still have to use 99% of the cap room but it would make discussing contracts easier and it would spread the wealth. What’s next, 30 or 40 million a year? That would take some time but you get the point.

@WobbleBuc, with the salary cap expected grow significantly in the next few years, it won’t be that long before we do see 25 – 30mil. Which is insane.

  9. Buccfan37 Says:

I hope Evans can live up to his big and beastly look, the big Buc bruiser.
