Starting Rotation Not Set At Wide Receiver

When QB Josh McCown got the job and was named the out-of-the gate starter by Lovie Smith, the head coach then qualified that statement by saying he would have a starting rotation at each position for the sake of running practices and managing a team.

Obviously, Vincent Jackson is the Bucs’ No. 1 receiver, but who stands second and third in line on Day 1 of minicamp today at One Buc Palace?

Joe asked Lovie this afternoon, and the head coach was non-committal.

“At receiver, we’re working to get a starting rotation. We’re working to it,” Lovie said. “It’s safe to say that Vincent Jackson will be there once the season starts. And from there we have some other younger players, you know, that will be in a position to prove to us that they belong in that position opposite him right now.

“Again, right now I don’t know a lot about some of our younger receivers, except for we have them on video right now and we get a chance to evaluate them a little bit more.”

Hmm, you think the Bucs are planning to draft a couple of wide receivers? It sure sounds that way.

As Joe referenced in his practice notes, Greg Schiano-era holdovers Eric Page and Chris Owusu got lots of reps with Josh McCown today, but plenty of receivers got their shot, too. The point is practice didn’t reveal a clear No. 2, as of right now.

What is clear is that mattress-on-the-lawn, stripper-pole-friendly, blade-absorbing Mike Williams was not wanted, regardless of how his talent ranked among the Bucs’ stable of receivers.

I suspect reps will become more limited after the draft.

The Page & Demps battle for returns is going to get good.

super overpaid slow as molasses hadn’t done squat in two years unfocused cave maniish brother brawling door smashing easily replaceable MW.

Now I know why Joe does that, it’s kinda fun.

Next reporter to ask a question about #19 gets escorted out of One Buc!!

  6. Thomas Says:

If they use Demps as the flyer so he gets down there to make the tackles it might be even better than if he was running the kicks back… stop the other team right where they catch the ball! He’s literally so fast he should be right there…

I can’t believe I got my MW jersey signed by everyone and he’s gone now! And then I bought a revis jersey in the middle of the year so now I got someone that’s is definitely staying! LVD!!!! #54

Rex Did you hear that they traded #54 to St Louis for their #1,2 and 4&6 picks. just pulling your chain. Wonder what people are going to do with all the #s gone this year. #s gone probably 25-35% of jurseys at games. Rasta needs to do something with his #5.
