Report: Gary Kubiak To Interview With Bucs

December 30th, 2013

BSPN insider Adam Schefter is reporting ousted Texans coach Gary Kubiak will interview with the Bucs for their vacant head coaching position.

Joe wonders, who exactly would interview Kubiak with no Bucs general manager in place?

Joe’s not taking this too seriously.

Won’t attend a single 2014 home game if this clown gets the job.

  2. bucsfan13 Says:

The glazers are going to go all jerry jones and be their own gm! lol j/k

  3. Buc Neckid Says:

Welcome to the NFL Offseason / Coaches’ Agents IN Season
Let the Spin Begin and the Rumors Fly

  4. Posey99 Says:

Is it possible Butch Davis could be our new GM?

  5. PRBucFan Says:

    Talk about a step back

I did not think it was possible

  6. Eric Says:

    Just go hire Lovie Smith.

    The man is a winner.

  7. bucsfan13 Says:

Thats why he was fired in chicago! Just to much winning!

  8. wesly Says:

  9. Andrew 1 Says:

We need to hire a coach with the best resume as a former NFL head coach that are currently available. lovie and wisenhunt both have Super Bowl appearances so they fit the bill.

  10. James in Memphis Says:

This is some bullsh*t.. I’m sick of this team.

  11. PRBucFan Says:

There Glazers will have proven the dumbest owners on earth if this happens.

I would put a ban on myself for all things Buc related

  12. bucsfan13 Says:

It doesn’t matter who the coach is…The QB matters more!

Bellicheat was nobody until tom brady

shaun peyton was a nobody until drew brees!

countless coaches got jobes because of peyton manning making them look good!

  13. bucrightoff Says:

We need to hire the best possible offensive football coach. Any semi-decent defensive co-ordinator can have a top-10 defense with that talent. But we need an offensive focused coach. Kubiak is a misdirection, as is Lovie. The real choice is at least a week or two away.

  14. bucsfan13 Says:

whoever the glazer’s want they should put them down as plan B because whoever they go after first always turns them down and they get stuck with plan B

  15. Eric Says:

Lovie had his team in NFC Championship game as recently as 2010.

    10-6 his last year.

Miles ahead of anything we’ve seen around here for years. Instant credibility which is sorely needed.

  16. Eric Says:

Oh please the saints shredded our so called talent like they were a scout team.

  17. Draft Marty Schottenheimer Says:

Well they did knee-jerk Rah in before naming Rockstar. it’s not totally outside their realm.

PSU alumnus are ticked hearing Schiano’s name on the list. Why should we go for a coach who actually did worse than Schiano. . .

  18. Buc Neckid Says:

The Dallass Defensive Coaching Staff is rumored to be Fired Soon
Could the Band(*) be getting back together?
    President – McKay *
    GM – Ballard
    HC – Lovie Smith *
    OC – Jeff Tedford
    DC – Rod Marinelli *
Special Teams – Joe Marciano *
or maybe Rich Biasaccia * (Job Status unknown with Dallass)

  19. That Guy Says:

    Kubiak’s agent works fast.

  20. 813jukingalldaylong Says:

ill take Gary anyday as our OC for next season.

  21. My Buc-O's Says:

  22. My Buc-O's Says:

Well also Shefner was wrong about Schiano not going to get fired….go figure…. silly talking head

  23. K_bassuk Says:

Oh he!! No… Why in the world would they bring him over

  24. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Like I said….”be careful what you wish for”….

I agree with Joe…this is pretty much meaningless…..

Kubiak & Schaub… got your NFL experienced coach and your franchise QB…..Oh happy day!!!

  25. bucrightoff Says:

Remember they asked to interview Wade Phillips (who declined) last time. Misdirection is the key here, with at least 6 other teams looking for a head coach, don’t want to tip your hand. Almost worked with Chip Kelly.

  26. Schiano Happens Says:

    Fire Kubiak.

  27. MadMax Says:

    No, no, no

Mike Zimmer or Jay Gruden….yes, yes, yes.

  28. Waterboy Says:

  29. mark2001 Says:

Joe…you know how this works…it is like the Lovie thing about saying he has a staff in mind and Tony Dungy Tweeting that Lovie and Richie should be the next HC and GM….

These guys are promoting themselves to the world for the job, as is Kubiak…We have seen it done this way before. And usually the guys self promoting aren’t the ones getting the jobs eventually.

  30. Sunny Says:

I actually thought of this earlier in the day don’t think it would all that bad

  31. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Norv Turner going to be the Bucs next coach 😉

  32. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    And I was joking.

  33. patrickbucs Says:

you guys do realize that he was deep in the AFC playoffs with a backup last year don’t you? They had some bad luck this year but he’s had top offenses in Houston & Denver. I doubt he’s even being interviewed but he’s a very good coach.

  34. BucYou Says:

Norve Turner is A looooser!!! Never won a thing..

  35. Smithkey Says:

Adam Schefler just takes guess and reports it as insider information. This is the 4th different name I have heard this clown throw out. Take any information from ESPN with a grain of salt

  36. BucYou Says:

What about Cowart? He’d be my first pick.

  37. Teddy Says:

  38. Eric Says:

Like joe I wonder who is conducting the interview.

What big timer is out there who would want to bring in his own GM?

That would be a big draw to me. Limited chance of a backstabing and get to work with own guy. I think the bucs are the only one in that posture. Everyone else has a GM in place.

  39. Pete 422 Says:

All of this being reported by guys who said Schiano will get another year. It’s all speculation.

    Gotta hire a GM first!

  40. Orca Says:

The Glazers just don’t get it. They don’t know anything about football, but they’re interviewing HC candidates? WTF? This is probably going to be another merry-go-round clusterf**k circle-jerk like every other time they’ve hired a coach.

  41. Bucs fan from VA Says:

Hell no to Kubiak. I agree with ESPN reporters hire MC Kay away from Atlanta to be the GM and then hire Lovie to be the coach.

  42. Pvine Says:

I don’t have faith in Gary Kubiak as head coach, maybe OC

  43. mark2001 Says:

You are right Orca…putting the coach before the GM is nothing but trouble. How would you feel if you got a new management position, and when you first walked in the door, you were told you had to hire some person as your right hand man as a condition of the job or move on…even if you though they might be good, you would never feel like you were really their superior.

  44. mark2001 Says:

VA…McKay wasn’t a great talent evaluator. Even if Lovie was as good as Gruden, why would you think McKay would do better than Allen. And remember, one reason Allen was chosen was because we were presumably in “salary cap hell” under McKay….how quickly we forget.

  45. mark2001 Says:

Darn Joe…I wish they would take that drawing of my wife off of the background in that League of Angels ad….LOL.

  46. Macabee Says:

Good idea. Interview as many offensive and defensive minds as possible. Get an assessment of your team and especially your QB.

When fans get upset about a particular interviewee, they fail to remember that the interview process is as much about gathering information as it is about selecting a candidate.

  47. PRBucFan Says:

Im not upset about the interview

It’s the potential hire that would be stupendous.

  48. My Buc-O's Says:

They’re not going to hire a HC before a GM….stop being so damn gullable….. its all hype……

  49. Bucs2044 Says:

And lets add Matt Millen as the GM…

  50. Eric Says:

McKay wasn’t a good talent evaluator?

One hall of fame inductee in the books, more to come.

Put together a Super Bowl winner.

Not to mention one of the best defensive units in league history.

Sometimes bucs fans just make me want to shake my head in shame.

  51. Trubucfan22 Says:

I actually don’t mind Kubiak. Other than this past season he had really turned around that team. They got their first 2 winning seasons under him and their first play off berth. This season was an obvious failure but tbh I can’t pin point what went wrong for them. They ha a good team based off of 2012 results. Preseason they were playoff or even Super Bowl contenders. I would rather have him as OC, but if he were head coach I would be alright wih that.

My number 1 head coach candidate would be jack del rio. For some reason I like the guy even though his jaguars were never vey good. And his current defense is average at best… But he is a good leader that knows he nfl, if he were be the true head coach and let the DC do his job and he OC do his job I would welcome jack del rio as the leader of this team.

  52. PRBucFan Says:

Who says you have to have a GM before you hire a HC?

The Glazers will be picking these two themselves

  53. Pete 422 Says:

Because to actually build a winner, you start with the GM. He hires the coach he desires.

  54. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    PRBucFan Says
“Who says you have to have a GM before you hire a HC?”

Because any coach that would sign without knowing who his GM will be is desperate and probably not worth having.

  55. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Brian Billick.

I got the impression in November that he really liked the team. He is an offensive-minded coach and he has won a Superbowl.

Overall winning season were 5 seasons, 1 8-8 and 3 losing seasons. He’s been an analyst for a few years now.

With Bill Polian as GM this team would rock with them.

  56. nate Says:

    Please no

  57. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I’m just going to say it because no one else has. I’m not crazy about Kubiak for many reasons, but number one is for the health concerns. He had a freaking stroke in the middle of a football game this year! That would be a major concern for me if I’m considering hiring him (which I wouldn’t).

  58. BucfanBF Says:

What Hawaiian Buc said!! Plus I dont think he is that good anyways.

  59. dmatt Says:

R u kidding me!! A coach who finally got his team in the playoffs after 5 years as the head coach. Kubiak then goes two years back to back to the playoffs only winning two games the next year. We need Lovie!! Yes, Lovie didn’t have an OC in Chicago to balance the team and I’m sure he knows that by now. Dungy discovered that logic after leaving the Bucs n joining the Colts in 2002. So, Lovie has learned his lesson, I’m sure he’ll take a snippet from his mentor Dungy n ensure he brings in an offensive coordinator who knows offense, n how to put points on the board. His winning percentage in Chicago is .563 vs Kubiak’s .488 with the Texans…com on man!! The city and team will embrace Smith.

  60. Andoni Cabrero Says:

    Chucky + Manziel = Playoffs

  61. Mr. T Says:

Just get a good offensive minded HC and a good DC, that is what we need most now.

  62. PRBucFan Says:

It’s happened before and it will happen again

  63. mark2001 Says:

Eric…you know who had a major part in that Sapp, Brooks, Lynch draft? Crusty old Sam Wyche….look it up. Take those guys out and start making your list of HOF guys. A well known deserving Barber brother, likely but who else?

  64. Houston1099 Says:

I am very familiar with Kubiak, his coaching style, and his determination and passion for winning. Coach Kubiak is awesome.

The reasons he could not get it done here in Houston is because of the ‘loyalty’ the general manager (Smith) had to the QB Matt Schaub.

Schaub is a mediocre quarterback that the team was trying to display as a great quarterback. Not his fault … his talent level is what it is and he would do well on a mediocre team.

The other reasons are the injuries the team has suffered this year … we lost our team leader and best defensive player, Brian Cushing, for the year. We lost our best offensive player, Arian Foster, for the year. There were also numerous injuries in the secondary that impacted the defense in a very negative way.

Coach Kubiak did not have the tools for success this year. Mainly a decent QB.

The GM (Smith) gave up a lot in the trade with Atlanta for Matt Schaub. It was a move that simply could not fail … but did. The GM needed to save face and Kubiak was made the scape goat.

Any team that gets Coach Kubiak will be inheriting a great coach, decent human being, and overall players coach.

I just hope wherever he ends up … he has a decent QB
