Schiano: “Most Of It” Was Wrong

November 20th, 2013

Click the arrow below to hear Greg Schiano on BSPN Radio this afternoon, as Schiano continues what feels like a media whirlwind tour.

It’s a brief interview. He touches on a handful of topics and is asked what he thought about the stuff swirling around the media about his relationship with his team. Schiano says “most of it” was wrong and explains why he didn’t spend more time refuting it. Enjoy.

Of course most of it was wrong. The really sad thing was that it was so obviously nonsense – but once people get their claws in on something like that they just keep digging.

  2. Buc1987 Says:

@Rob …and some of them are still digging. There is this guy on 620 that can’t stand Schiano and won’t let up. Then of course we still have quite a few fans that don’t care no matter what, they want him gone. Back in August before the season started I was just about the biggest Schiano supporter there is. I made a proclamation to JBF bloggers that bash Freeman all you want, but lay off Schiano or it’s on like Donkey Kong with me. That’s how much I liked him.

Then at 0-5 or so I started to change my tune. So much that I leaned over the railing on the Bucs sideline at the Panthers game and screamed as loud as I could “Schiano you f***ing suck ass.” One can only take so much and I was looking for someone, anyone to blame. Schiano was an easy target since everyone else was doing it anyways. Now I feel like an a-hole for it, because I don’t usually follow everyone else. In fact I typical rebel against it.

I’d have to say that I’m about 60% still in his corner now, just because of how hard the players are playing for him. That and the 2 wins of course. Players supposedly loved Raheem, but they quit on him in 2011. So that says a lot about Schiano right there.

  3. Bobby Says:

I’ll say one thing about Schiano, he is a warrior and he brings that out in the players. I mean, how focused do you have to be in order to keep these players committed and buying in on your grand design at 0-8 with all the media storm etc.?? Pretty impressive in my book. May turn out to be a lousy coach but things look like they are turning and with just a few more pieces put into place in the off season……

    @Bobby & 87

I too, was a Schiano supporter long after it was popular….I have never…never “hated” him….to me the hate thing is bizarre….sure, you can question his coaching skills…but to hate is another matter altogether.
As far as going forward…I still think he has something to proove to us fans.
I noted that he mentioned it was “part of the plan”….now if the Glazers were expecting this tear down to happen before the buildup….then he is in better shape with them than we suspect.
If somehow he survives…he may just end up being what we need. He won’t be the first to struggle and then succeed.
Look at Rivera at Carolina….almost run out of town…

  5. Hawk Says:

    @ Tampabaybucfan

Don’t forget “Throw McKay in the Bay”. If Culverhouse had done that in ’78…

  6. chickster Says:

I like him but I still do not want him here he needs to go and practices being an nfl coach on another team

  7. chickster Says:

it has taken this staff way to long to change things like the defense not stunting so much sapp told them that and they finally listen the nfl changes each year and the way I see it this staff will always be behind they all should be let go there was no excuse to loose 9 games to start off with they have no understanding on what it takes to win

  8. chickster Says:

getting all heart felt over 2 wins is simply bull shhiiiiit

  9. Buc1987 Says:

yah chickster…but saying that you want him gone does not mean the next guy will be any better. What coach wants to come to Tampa knowing that he has only a yr and a 1/2 to please fans like you or he’s out of here? I say no coach will want to come to Tampa AT ALL.

Is that what they tell the next guy? Listen buddy you have 2 years tops or your out of here. That’s pathetic thinking.

  10. sG Says:

Its just two wins against pathetic teams. We almost lost the Miami game.. suddenly when and how did the coach become the best thing to happen?. I think there is a lot that still needs to happen to think that schiano is the right coach for this team. He still has not proved that he can win in close games.

  11. Buc1987 Says:

sG…last I checked Miami is 5-5 and in the playoff hunt. So you can call them pathetic if you like. To each his own.
