(More) Shakeup To The Offensive Line?

October 16th, 2013

Given the not-yet-100-percent knee of Davin Joseph and the lingering turf toe/MRSA of Carl Nicks, the Bucs’ offensive line, for yet another season, is in chaos.

It appears there may be more shuffling of the offensive line based on the peek of practice Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune was offered this morning, so he documented on Twitter.

@RCummingsTBO: Could there be yet another changing of the guards in Tampa. J. Zuttah was at LG, G. Carimi at RG with Ted Larsen at C in practice today

While a move of Zuttah to left guard is not a bad deal; Zuttah may be best as a left guard. Moving Larsen to center troubles Joe. Yeah, he’s a local guy, but whenever he plays, Joe gets nervous and starts pacing his house looking for a bottle.

Joe’s of the belief that in the draft next May, it may be time for Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik to start stocking up on offensive linemen, something he’s never done in the draft.

assuming Dom is in even in the position to do so.. Bad past drafts by Dom (not recent) have hurt this teams depth no question about it.

  2. ShutTheBucUp Says:

They managed to do fairly well with this setup last year. Sucks Nicks will be out again. It’d be nice to see what he could do for us at 100% for a full season.

  3. SteveK Says:

    Can we win this week?

  4. Bucswin Says:

Mark D. will not be here next year to make any picks.

    Can we win this week?

any given sunday! but i’m buying a bottle of Jameson just in case…

  6. Meh Says:

Larsen was a better center than guard. Not good, but better. I prefer Zuttah in that LG spot. I’m not very optimistic about Carimi from what I’ve seen, but Joseph has just not been playing well coming off the injury. This line up is not going to be very good, but I don’t know what else you can do.

  7. Tampabaybuctfan Says:

We are stuck…who could have forseen that Nicks & Joseph would be problems again this year?….not even Dom can be blamed for that in my opinion…..as for depth…it looked like we did well with what we had last year for a while…and we added Carimi…so hopefully going forward Joseph will improve and we will be ok.

  8. Chris Says:

    Joe,

Rock star won’t be here to stock up on oline.

  9. gulfcoast Says:

Bob Bostad? Coach B….? You so silly, stop acting like you got a contract extension at the end of last season…. man stop!

  10. Meh Says:

Who could foresee them being problems? They were both coming off very serious injuries. Chances are at least one of them would at least be seriosuly behind. It was pretty easy to see.

  11. coder Says:

can we draft a coach in the first round ??

  12. OAR Says:

    Meh
So you could see the MRSA outbreak coming? I could sure use the lottery numbers this week.

  13. SteveK Says:

This is going to be a long 11 weeks. We might now win this year.

And who was worried about the poor preseason rolling over into this year.

  14. Capt. Tim Says:

Coder- lol! And a GM in the 2nd round.
That would fill the teams biggest needs!

If Dom is still here next draft, it won’t matter who we draft.
And for the first time since this teams conception- I won’t be watching.
Enough is enough with that guy!

  15. OAR Says:

They probably wish they could draft fans in the first round.

  16. Mr. Patrick Says:

So much for the O-Line being the strength of the team. 49ers have 3 1st rounders and a 2nd rounder on their O-Line which is the best in the NFL. So every now and then you have to draft them DOM

Just like a ‘true Buc” fan! I guess you’ve never heard of “through thick and thin” on your little boat the SS Cheese and Whine.

  18. lightningbuc Says:

    Joe,

At this point, you have a better chance of hooking up with Rachel Watson than the alleged “rock star” has a chance of being employed by the Bucs come draft day.

  19. teacherman777 Says:

    @joe

    What happened to Joseph?

    Has he been benched?

    @everybody

I feel that most you are inhumane humans.

Sometimes, I feel ashamed to be an NFL fan because of how stupid most of you meatheads are.

Like people cheering for Matt Schaub?

Or last year with the Chiefs and Matt Cassell?

Sometimes, NFL fans remind me of barbarian roman fans in the colosseum. Just idiots who want to scream for blood.

I wish that more fans had HEARTS, COMPASSION, and some form of INTELLIGENCE.

I mean think about Davin Joseph for a second.

He was a MAULER before he tore his knee up. He was our best O-Lineman for the past 4 years. And now? Hes going through a tough recovery. I am sure he is suffering through his struggles. Just try, just TRY to put yourself in his shoes for a second. Or in the shoes of any of these guys!!!

Most fans are HEARTLESS. And it makes me SICK.

These men are not just objects! They are humans with families!!!

    Wheres the LOVE?

  20. SteveK Says:

    teacherman777,

Do the other 31 teams show us the same pity for our troubles?

Nope, Joseph was a 1st round pick and was resigned. It stinks he is hurt, but the man is a multmillionaire, and I am sure even he would tell you that he is playing subpar football right now.

Look at Nicks, his situation is even more tragic. Just awful, and he has mad a ton of money the past 2 years for about 6 or 7 games of action.

Oh well, woe is the Bucs.

Mark Dominick needs to be excused from the big boys’ table. Enough is a enough.

If the Glazers entrust this clown to find another HC, than we will stink for 3-4 more years. By that time, it will have been a 10 year rebuild and we still won’t taste the playoffs.

2010 was a fluke year, it led to thinking our GM found us a QB, but in all reality we feasted off of a weak schedule.

Toes on the line! 0-6 here we come.

  21. JonBuc Says:

Joe: Big assumption that the Dirtstar GM will still be around in May.If he is, I hope it’s more of a faux title like Rich McCay now holds in Atlanta. Shuffling the o-line feels a lot rearranging the deck chairs on the Titantic to me.

  22. Capt. Tim Says:

    Oar,
They try to feed you crap sandwiches- some refuse, some eat.
It’s not god or country, Pal. It’s a product. A product you pay for, and they make boatloads of money off of.
They want to sell you a cheap, lousy product- and charge you top dollar, then be my guest!
Me? For my 2800 in Season tickets- I expect a competent coach, a competent GM, and either good players/ young players who are improving.
But they are counting on you, the guy that will pay for Rookie coaches, Rookie GMs, bad player moves, and team getting worse/ not better!

That’s why I didn’t get tickets this year. If they actually put a product on the field capable of competing- I’ll get them again.

If not, they can keep taking your money.

If you even go. The first ones to question someone’s tea am loyality, are usually the coach potato squad.
Invest a few grand. Then tell me how loyal your feeling.
Or meybe you like the sandwiches!

  23. WinterSpringsBucsFan Says:

If Glennon could prove to be our man in 2014 I would love to see the Bucs go after Jake Mathews Texas A & M (Tackle) or Cameron Irving FSU. Either Offensive tackle would be a good pick up. For Guard La’el Collins LSU or David Yankey Stanford would also be a good pick up. We need a good O-line, Doug Martin needs a good O-line, Schiano,Glennon hell we all need a good O-line.

  24. Meh Says:

Of course I couldn’t see the MRSA outbreak, but I could guess that at least one of 2 guards coming off season ending injuries might be trouble. That doesn’t take a genius.

  25. OAR Says:

First of all, it sounds like to me this Capt has already jumped ship! Second, you should really remember who you post to, cause you didn’t have any season tickets the last several years. Remember your health and illness issues? And, I’m only questioning your team loyality cause you are the one claiming “I wont be watching them”. Anyways, if you dig around in there you’ll remember my conversations with you and find those answers your looking for.

  26. Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I have to agree with everyone, The “Rockstar” will not be here next year.
Unless we start winning, it is doubtful Coach Schiano will even finish the season.
Both Scot Paoli and Bill Polian are to be had for General Managers, and there are also plenty of Coaches out of work.

  27. OAR Says:

    Meh
I think Carl’s issues now are from the MRSA, not his injury recovery.

  28. OAR Says:

    Capt Tim
I also find it funny, that after all the bad teams we’ve had (0-26, Bennett, Perkins, Williamson and Raheem) since their inception, that Dominik would be the one to push out of Buc fandom.

  29. Bucfan#37 Says:

The Bucs have picked mostly defensive players in recent drafts, improving their defense from a real bad one. The offense now needs the picks. Actually the defense did’nt play good enough to win vs Eagles. Teams see the mess here in Tampa. They don’t want to be beaten by a winless team. The Bucs will get every teams best game thrown at them. Looking at the schedule, wins, hell all these teams are better than the Bucs. If the Bucs surprise and improve they could win a couple or three. That’s expecting improvement.

  30. Capt. Tim Says:

Oh, I didn’t see I was leaving Bucdom, Just not watching the draft- which is one of my favorite pats of a Football.
We’ ve botched so many high level picks!
    Can’t watch another Dominick draft.

No matter how painful- I’ve been a Bucs fan since I was was 10.
I’ll die a Bucs fan( a fate that they are contributing to greatly right now!)
