“I Think He Can Get The Locker Room Back”

October 7th, 2013

“The best thing that they did was release Josh. Somehow, someway that situation had to end. It had gotten toxic from both sides. Josh was manipulating, everybody felt like Coach was manipulating, but I don’t feel like Greg was that kind of guy. Greg wants what’s best for this team. I think he can get the locker room back. I want to see him get the locker room back.” — Ronde Barber, yesterday on FOX NFL Sunday.

Joe’s not really sure how to accurately interpret Barber’s quote above. Barber saying he thinks Greg Schiano “can get the locker room back” implies that the head coach has lost it.

What does Barber know, or think he knows?

I think everyone , joe included, needs to quit ragging on schiano. Freeman doesn’t and didn’t have a set between his legs. Quit sticking up for him.

How dare anyone point a finger at the head coach for winning one of his last 10. –Joe

  2. Dylan Says:

    Ronde knows more then us!

  3. The_Buc_Realist Says:

The Gm let the situation get out of hand. He called all 31 teams a week and a half late. Thank goodness the circus has finally left town.

  4. Nick2 Says:

I think Rhonde and Schiano know what will cure this situation and Al Davis said it best “Just win baby!” If that happens we will no longer talk about Josh Freeman or Greg Schiano’s shortcomings. If we keep losing it will still all be under a microscope.

  5. Clintro Says:

I hope he can get the looker room “back”.

This is looking at being a Looooong season.

  6. bucrightoff Says:

Just gotta start winning. And really the offense just needs to be better. Not great, just better. Its like the Dungy era again, get 21 points and let the defense do its thing.

  7. JT Says:

Who can say definitively Schiano “lost” the locker room? The defense has been stellar in 3 of the 4 games this season and holding Tom Brady to 24 points is never a bad thing either.

  8. Bobby Says:

Yep, if that was the case we’d be 4-0.

  9. Bucs1987 Says:

It does not appear to me as a fan that Schiano has lost the locker on the defensive side of the ball at all.

  10. Splengo Says:

    Bucrightoff/Bobby,

I thought that was what we did in the Jets and the Saints game. Isn’t that the way you remember it?

  11. Walter Says:

    0-16 is a real possibility

  12. RCS Says:

I think Ronde knows like most who don’t have a burning hate for Schiano know.
And that’s Freemans camp was behind all of this mess.

  13. bucrightoff Says:

We scored 21 points? Cause we would have won both of those games. Instead the offense scored 2 TDs, the defense set the offense up at the 5, effectively counting as a TD for the defense, and of course Mason Foster should have the play of the NFL season, except nobody is talking about the Bucs unless its negative. Defense is doing its part and people really need to stop perputuating the stupidity that the offense did “enough” to win us either game. Accepting mediocrity is why this team will go nowhere.

  14. Splengo Says:

    Bucrightoff,

I get it now. You just don’t want the lead with seconds on the clock and no time outs. You want a cushion too. I understand now!

  15. Bucs1987 Says:

I want the offense to be awake from the 1st qtr on myself. The defense shows up every game. The offense is clearly the problem. The defense can only do so much and they do a lot. Example : the Saints game.

  16. BirdDoggers Says:

It seems like Ronde was commenting based on the general perception that Schiano lost the locker room. There might be some reality to the perception, but the players haven’t given up on the field yet. When that happens, we’ll know how they feel about their head coach. Winning changes everything.

  17. al121976 Says:

What does he mean by freeman being manipulating?

  18. Jason Says:

Here we go again the circus is coming to a close and all the flip-flipping media will try and play the positive with Schiano. I think he should’ve been gone with Freeman but if he can adapt and change to his players that is the sign of a good coach, but to me he still has to win 10 games and we have the talent to do it so that’s where I stand and have always stood. Im not a fan of blowing everything up and starting over but he has to show me something and NOW.

  19. bucrightoff Says:

Yeah I want 60 minutes of offense execution, not 3. And Splengo if you’re cool with 8 points of offense a game, the average at the moment, you must be cool with 1-15. Thats basically how many games you win with 8 points of offense a game because you’ll run into a 7-6 game every now and then.

  20. Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Looks like Freeman and his agent played the Bucs into giving him his outright release.
I think Freeman was pissed he did not get a contract extension, and intentionally played like shit, missed meetings, etc, etc, etc, to force the Bucs to cut him, knowing he had all that guaranteed money.
Now, he has put another 3 million in his pocket, and Schiano looks like “the bad guy”.

Hats off to Coach Schiano for ridding Tampa of this Cancer.
Now, all we need to do is win Sunday, and things will die down for awhile.

  21. PRBucFan Says:

    Implications huh lol…

  22. pelbuc Says:

JBF, You forgot to emphasisze Ronde’s, “Josh was maipulating” quote. He (freeman) showed his true colors when he got benched and tried to take the whole team down with him. The only time Freeman showed intensity in his 5 yrs was when he tried to destroy the Bucs. Good riddance and glad he’s gone no matter what record (or head coach) Bucs finish the season. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Raheem gone, Freeman gone now they need to get rid of GM and wait to see how Schiano finishes the year. GO BUCS!

    Agreed!

  24. Tye Says:

    “Josh was manipulating,”

Ronde Barber was on the team with JF since JF was drafted…. RB has played a few years with JF and has been around him in the locker room for years…. If RB says JF was manipulating then I believe it!

  25. Chris Says:

Joe freeman is the worst rated qb in the nfl over the past 9 games. Last time I checked schiano wasn’t out there throwing the ball.

The team around the qb is very good. I compare the 2013 bucs to the 2012 chiefs. Playoff team around the qb but no qb.

  26. Cmurda Says:

The biggest thing I take from this is Ronde’s scathing comment about Freeman being manipulative. Ronde never publicly vowed Josh Freeman was the future while playing. Now, he seems to be implying that Freeman, not Schiano, was the cancer in the locker room. There is a lot to suggest that Freeman caused a divided locker room. With Freeman now gone, its time for Schiano to earn the trust from the fans and the players. Its not automatic. He needs to get this team some wins now so there is some hope for next year. With all the ridiculousness that has come out, I have been clamoring for his departure but if he’s going to ride the wave out, I’m going to support him and hope for the best.

  27. RastaMon Says:

The Glazers should televise al remaining home games……oh wait…

  28. Chris Says:

I think there was a divide in the lockeroom especially the defense. Freeman was terrible at years end but no one recognized how many times Freeman’s lack of play out them in terrible position.

It’s the same thing with the texans. Their defense had surrendered points but schuabs poor play and TOs and in effectiveness to move the rock has put them in consistent poor position.

  29. Pewter Power Says:

There is only one cure to the sickness this team currently has, and that is a dosage of “W I N N I N G”

  30. Gorillapimp Says:

I don’t see this team winning 5 games this season the teams they should have beat they have already loss to

  31. Gorillapimp Says:

Schiano has no faith in the offense to score points so he has them playing scared He won’t let the kicker kick field goals He wouldn’t let Freeman throw passes late in games any other team that had a kicker on it’s roster blowing games would have had ten kickers in on Monday morning trying to replace him I’m sure there’s some out there looking for jobs

  32. White Tiger Says:

Whenever a coach starts circling a player – teammates either side with the player, or the coach. They cut Freeman – Ronde’s playing to the locals…because, obviously, HE’S still in Tampa.

As for his comments – that was THE REAL quote – the one where it made it sound like it was ALL Freeman, was…journalistic license (some might call it misleading, or maybe even a LIE…but not me, no way).

The deal is, Ronde said a lot he absolutely blamed Schiana for his manipulation – then stating the coach has some work to do in the locker room.

Good luck with that – your rookie is going to be “zeroed in” by some upcoming opponents drooling over what they saw on the Arizona tape. Not JUST because there is a rookie out there – but because Schiana’s foolishly simplistic offense. It’s going to look like Glennon is purposely throwing INT’s and that and VJax and Mike Williams suddenly can’t run routes – but it’s going to be that they’re re-routed, and the routes they were SUPPOSED to be – will be JUMPED.

…don’t be fooled – it won’t be ALL on the rookie – it will only look like it.

  33. Capt. Tim Says:

Telling comment. You can’t” get something back” and you’ve lost it first.

Ronde isn’t a player. He is in the Media. Training to be an in game color Anaylst.

The Bucs color Anaylst, is the plan at the moment.

If you think that doesn’t affect what he says, then you are a lil naive.
